I have someone with such illness, and all the medical team did was to give her some injections which deflated the large cyst. Surgery was not necessary cos of that technology. |

seborrhic: Those who understand how the healthcare system works will understand what I mean. When you say India, do you mean private or government hospitals?? The government hospitals there may be highly subsidized, just like those of the countries in the middle east, but no private hospital there will take $400 there for Herniorrhaphy. Do your research well, bros. Ask Nigerians who go there how much they pay. Standard healthcare is expensive except where it is subsidized 1 Like |

ChybuzzDD:https://www.medifee.com/treatment/hernia-surgery-cost-in-new-delhi/ I insist your point is highly flawed. Even in the US you want to use as a point of reference to back up your wrong assertion, majority from all sectors agree that the cost of healthcare is artificially inflated by a large measure, but over the years all efforts to address it has been futile largely because of same powerful health insurance companies. It's the reason that without insurance in US you are doomed health wise because an astronomically arbitrary figure would be quoted for you. But with health insurance, when hospitals submit that same quote to your HMO,they end up paying, less than half the calculated cost, and even in some instances 1/10th of it! I ask again, what is your point? That a patient goes to one surgeon and is quoted a fee of $10,000;while another in another part of the world quotes you $1000,does it now equate, according to you, that the $10k surgeon will give u a better outcome? 1 Like |

[That's my sister's ovarian cyst. She was operated upon last Dec in National hospital Abuja. We were charged almost 400,000. She's sound now, hale and hearty. And dwells more on fruits and vegetables.

The best solution is a surgery. I had mine last year and I lost my left ovary to it... Because it was twisted with my left ovary. I wish her quick recovery. 1 Like |

seborrhic: The prices listed there are for umbilical Herniorrhaphy, not inguinal Herniorrhaphy, and are still far above what's obtainable in Nigeria. $400 is over 155,000 naira. In Nigeria, they'll price an average of 50,000 for the same surgery There are a lot of things you do not understand when it comes to health, especially the peculiar nature of that of Nigeria. Considering your last paragraph, let's use Nigeria as the case study. The $10k surgeon in Nigeria will have a better outcome, because he's a surgery specialist, and will work together with other specialists in other areas, like the Anaesthetist, and will most likely have the necessary equipment in his hospital. A specialist will always charge higher, and have a higher standard of professionalism. He is trained to carry out surgeries in postgraduate training. His hospital is a specialist hospital. Still in Nigeria, the $1k "surgeon" will usually be a General practitioner with first degree as his only qualification. This doctor is not a specialist, but has acquired some skills to be able to carry out limited surgeries. These are usually the doctors most Nigerians know in the private hospitals. His fees are usually cheaper, and his hospital is usually not very well equipped. And because he is collecting a very low fee, he is most likely going to be both the surgeon and the Anaesthetist. His outcome may not always be fantastic. In advanced countries, only the surgeons/specialists operate. Most patients in Nigeria don't know who's a specialist and a general practitioner, and end up judging every doctor and hospital the same way. This is the peculiarity in Nigeria, and I hope you'll understand it. 2 Likes |

The only way out is surgery. And you have to do it as soon as possible because the more it is delayed, the more it will be getting worse with related symptoms of gradual swollen stomach and others. I know someone who has happened to and it was successfully done through surgery. Please kindly do the needful. May God help you. |

Well, I've seen hundreds of hemorrhagic cysts in practice. Most cysts of that size can resolve on their own medically speaking. The good thing is that the cyst contains only internal echoes, no solid nodules inside it or internal septations. But over 85% of hemorrhagic cysts contains thin lace-like internal septations though, so it may not be hemorrhagic. It may just be a simple cyst since the scan described the cyst to be sonolucent. Even if it's hemorrhagic cyst. It can still resolve without surgery. But if the pain is severe and consistent, cystectomy is advisable. But before surgery becomes the final decision, just suggest to the gynecologist managing her for conservative management to be adopted with follow up scan to see if there will be a good outcome. The size of the cyst is not that big. There are different types of ovarian cysts, some are very harmful, some are not. Hemorrhagic cysts belongs to the later category if it is not too big, and in most cases they don't get too big. Dermoid cysts, mucinous cysts, endometrioma (chocolate cysts), tubo-ovarian/complex cysts and other cysts that contains solid materials inside and those almost 10cm in size (even if it did not contain anything internally) or even ectopic pregnancy, are the types i will immediately opt for surgery. However, the advise from your gynecologist should override mine since he is the one seeing your sister physically and and he understands her clinical state more than me. It is also good you know that surgery does not kill. Infact, Its advantages outweighs its disadvantages by far provided it is done in a good facility by an expert in the field. Remember, a good doctor does not mean an expert in all areas. There are different fields in medicine. One may be good in general practice, but may not possess surgical skills. I am saying this so that you don't go and meet your doctor friend who is good but does not have the surgical skills needed in this area. A gynecologist is what she needs. I wish her quick recovery. 2 Likes |
