Some times the victims who get scammed are probably poorer than the scammers. Some Nigerians might just be surviving on their little earnings then one greedy lazy scammer would sweep them off their feet and and make them vulnerable for a very long time.

I remember when I got scammed, I didn't even have up to 5k in my account then as a student but I had to pay up a debt of over 35k because I had to buy another phone for the guy who I stupidly lost his phone to a scammer. Baba nor even pity me say I lose my phone join oh.

Fraud is actually a very hideous crime, let's not sugar-coat it with poverty. I know a guy who built his wealth from nothing to something massive doing legit businesses.

In as much as our government has totally failed us as a nation in all ramification, that doesn't justify any reason whatsoever to indulge in scam. We all that isn't privileged to be born in a wealthy home has undergone serious unbelievable and extreme level of poverty. I am a definition of such situation. But then, with patience and focus and hardworking and the audacity of hope in doing the right thing and keep pushing we can always triumph. But today the story is different, I am in DE for my masters. This is someone that came from the lowest of lowest level of economic background with no hope of food nor water. My story is much, I intend opening a thread or writing a book about my struggles and trials and my travails some day. I think our youths and people are too impatient and want to acquire overnight wealth but it doesn't work like that, there are processes in life. In whatever situation we find ourselves at any given point in time is to prepare us to the next level. I was listening to huspuppis video recently when his arrest was making waves, mind you it was when he was arrested that I went ahead to read about him. So in the video he was talking about coming and being born in a poor family and his father after serving the government couldn't get a good life after retirement, I was awed and baffled. I immediately considered him lucky because to me my parents never worked for any government or gainfully employed. We were meagre small scale farmers in small settlement only could cultivate what to eat not to talk of living a luxury life. His excuse wasn't justifying and didn't add up for him to go into crime. I just saw a greedy and wicked human. Please let's not always be economicall with the truth, until then these crimes will still be on the high and young people won't appreciate hard work.

Tell your story someday, I'd be glad to read.

My friend was gone, psychologically. This guy has helped lots of Africans and he’s one of those anti-racist Germans who always want to help foreigners and fight the system. But he fell into the wrong hands and got scammed. He had planned to die.

I eventually went to his house and sat down with him. I begged him to tell me what was wrong. After insisting that he was fine, he finally opened up to me in tears. All of his savings were gone, he took money from a credit card, which he’s now in debt. He said some guys in Ghana scammed him.
After he told me what happened, I knew those guys were Nigerians .

I disagree with the emboldened,I don't know what he told you which made you think it's a Nigerian..Yes we have Nigerians in Ghana that are into scam, but believe me,there are twice as much Ghanaian scammers as we have in Lagos.

You don’t know what he told me, so why do you disagree? You think I can’t tell Nigerians from Ghanaians? Do you know how much interaction, effort and strategy it takes to scam someone of €60,000 and the details it would entail? It didn’t even take me 10 minutes into the story to figure out they were Nigerians.

And then when you think about it, the people you are taking $1,500 from, are driving 30million Naira Mercedes Benz, are going on one month vacation overseas obviously will sleep in hotels, and will fly economy class. One word here, affluence! You, on the other hand, can't eat a good food and drink a clean water. What can a $1,500 deduction do to this "class of Whites" anyway, you ask?
That's the mentality. I'm just saying because I've had this dialogue with my friends and those were their words.

In my opinion, this is just a silly excuse. A lot of scammers are influenced by what they see on social media. Their mates using iPhones they won't be able to afford if they get a proper job. There are countless of people suffering today but don't even think of scamming as an option whereas some guys not even suffering so much have no chills and think of fraud as the only way.
We can't have good reputation if we think this way bro. If you are suffering, do all you can to work. You can't say you want to work but there's no job. No! That's not true. You are just being picky and selective because you don't wanna be looked down on. If you are really hungry bro, you'll have countless of ideas that would feed you other than fraud
I agree with this one very well. A lot of broke persons are very selective with jobs they like to work. They think doing yahoo in the shelter of a roof while their back is resting on a sofa is classier than lifting a shovel of granite.

That's what most people don't want to understand. Even in businesses or careers, there are processes. Jeff Bezos didn't become a billionaire overnight neither those high earning CEOs became successful in their careers one hand. These people want things quickly, thankfully, there are consequences. Unfortunately, the result of these consequences will negatively affect those who aren't criminal minded.

P.S: Never should a sane person do any sort of business or communication with a crime apologist. These people are akin to those who lent support to Boko Haram members or rapists. They are evil!

While you are right, one thing about a bad image is that almost everyone will have unidirectional thinking about a group of people who are notorious for particular crimes. If there's a terrorist attack in an airport in Europe, almost everyone will think it's an Arab that's behind the attack. There's this belief that the actions of the likes of Hushpuppi and his gangs isn't what most Nigerians will do. Unfortunately, going by posts on social media especially Nairaland and Instagram, one can say most Nigerians are sympathetic to fraudsters. Yet again, unfortunately, the consequences Nigerians will face will be entirely different from Russians or Chinese. The belief that because Germans or Russians defrauded people, then the consequences will be the same as Nigerians who defrauded is entirely misplaced. This is because Nigeria as a country doesn't have clout in terms of strong military or strong economy.

I understand the perspective the op that justified the action of scammmers is speaking from.
But the thing about scammers is that they don't stop , it gets so addictive that they make a living from it. Majority of them say they indulge in it because they are poor , lack working capital. The story changes after the first cash out. After getting the first dough, instead of thinking of investing the money gotten from the proceeds, they move on to get designers, expensive phones , spend on whores , compete in clubs ( casket). They then make a trade out of it.

I was formerly sympathetic to them, but i then realized the crime was not due to poverty but to fund there life style. I was once a Lautech ( hub of scammers) student, so I have a first hand experience of there lifestyle. A colleague of mine gets up to 50 000 per month as monthly allowance as a student in 2014 thereof. He was more than comfortable , but since he isn't using the latest iPhone, no plasma TV in his room and he doesn't have a car, he believes he his poor. To uplift his status he ventures into scam.

To support fraudsters irrespective of societal class, and race they belong is to support armed robbers, burglars , kidnappers, rapist ( from someone who has taken there sides before). All criminals has a justification as to why they commit crime. No matter the justification , another human is being hurt so that you can live your flamboyant lifestyle which is evil.

Finally I think what there sympathizers don't know is that international fraudster will not blink an eye, when opportunity presents itself to scam there kinsman. There is no honor among thieves.

Death sentence is not the right approach because you've not gotten at the root cause, let alone going hard on them. What will curb scam is attitude re-orientation.

Most of these guns think government is not in the moral position to warn them to desist from scam when they themselves are their big brothers. Nigeria Government loot ten times what all the yahoo boys in Nigeria put together loot. What's the way forward? Government has to come forward with clean hands and urge them to desist from scam. That way some of these guys will feel convinced and develop a change of heart after hearing an appeal by responsible government and leadership. But with regards to this disastrous style of leadership of our politiciansgrin, all I have to say is "like leader like followers", sorry Dears, scam will continue. grin

Secondly for the Government; fix the damned country and people can have access to good jobs that can fetch them substantial amount of money. Fix the country, so one can't think of perpetrating crime and using the proceeds for quality healthcare and standard lifestyle. If you fixed the country, and that crime continues, you will have full excuse to go harder on the perpetrators who will surely be in the minority about then.

That's my take

Funny how people try to justify fraud by blaming it on poverty. Let's call a spade a spade, so most people here are trying to say if I resort to blood money just to lift myself from poverty its OK, right?
What I see here is Situation Ethics playing out. Something that is truly wrong is not wrong depending on the situation and right is not right depending on the situation.
Blaming the government forgetting the change we desire has to begin with us. If we were thought morals and right attitude was imbibed in us right from our home (childhood) we won't be much perturbed by what happens in the government, because we know who we are.
Blaming the government is the cheapest widespread excuse for going into fraudulent activities.
There are many people who have tasted absolute poverty firsthand but never used that as an excuse to go fraudulent...(except the thing don dey hungry you since) instead built wealth from scratch no be say them be dullard.
This generation lacks simple morals. No wonder there is no thinkers no inventors, everyone wants to take shortcuts.

A bad society always produces bad youth.

The hate you give little infants forks everybody! Nigeria leadership should first work on themselves, then work on the country and see scam drop to a significant level. The remainder who won't key into the sustainable and available means of living can be cracked on and it will be so easy because they will be smaller, as most will be discouraged.

Anything short of these is chasing the geese, wildly.

I also agree with you on this. Fraud appears hydra-headed and not led by one factor as most people believe or are made to believe.

Understanding the multi-factorial causes is key to bringing an end to the embarrassing plague. You have mentioned the several causes and I agree with you 100% because I have studied the lives of those who engage in this shit.

Coming down to a comprehensive solution to combating it, no one-approach-fits-all to me. It looks like something that will require all hands to be on deck undecided. We'll need the useful hands of politicians, parents, school teachers, society and social media. tongue

1. Politicians have to make the society progressive and less depressing/devastating.

2. Parents must instill better morales or disciplines into their children/wards during childhood and most importantly in their teenage stage.

3. Teachers of Primary and especially the Secondary Schools; must guide the pupils/students in the right path of chastity and satisfaction that one derives from enjoying the profits of honest work. Religious leaders should come into this part too. tongue No be to dey ask for tithe from yahoo boys shocked

4. Social media has their own roles to play, last year Instagram said that they would disable number of likes on instagram posts in a bid to curb depression or intimidation. undecided

5. Society will have to learn to question unexplained source of wealth of some unknown persons and not just throw their hands in the air to celebrate them with praise words such as "Oga!" grin

With these few points of mine, I hope I've been able to convince you and not confuse you, that erm... embarassed

Yes you are right but the comments above seem to single out poverty as the main cause resulting to most fraudulent act.
Youth this days don't know all this are fleeting. peer pressure huh the thing be say no body cares when we realise that maybe our orientation will change. Faulty environment-influence may have nothing to do with that because if thats the case then almost everyone would have been a wealthy Internet fraudster considering the fact that the kind of world system we live in today encourages so many obscene act.
I believe it all sums down to parental upbringing as you rightly said "faulty upbringing" personal upbringing/morals and ethics most people sef no even get any personal ethics or morals guiding their daily living anything wey they see they must have. And will/ will to effect positive change in the environment they live in.
In as much as i really don't understand what the government is doing in terms of all the embezzlement cases. I still don't believe they will be the reason for me to go into "yahoo" or maybe what one human being think about my dressing or phone. ohh brother that's so stupid.

Nice point outlined, but ability for these outlined possible solution to effect the desired change in ones life depands on the capacity of the individual. Without capacity building no matter what you are taught it will go a long way yes but when thick problems come knocking we might be forced to change stance.
We need to build our capacity and work on ourselves. good personal upbringing/ethics.

Working in Germany

You can apply for jobs online via websites or you can apply in person. There are several websites which you can apply through and some jobs require you to apply directly through the company’s website. For example: Amazon has its own company website for applying for jobs.
You can only apply by going to that website to fill the information and submit your CV. You’d need to register with a username and password.

After your application has been reviewed, you will be invited for an interview. In this case, they’ll send you an email which includes the time, date and address of the company. You also have to inform them if you are unable to attend the interview for personal reasons such as sickness, unavailability, etc.

For menial jobs, you can apply online or in person. In person means, you can walk around with your CV and ask at different locations, if they need your service. Example is going to a restaurant to ask if they need a dish washer. This is usually effective, because you can get hired on the spot. Also some companies may not know they need a particular service until you show up.

Places like hotels, usually want you to apply online and go through proper channels for documentation purposes. Some jobs require security checks, even though it’s a menial job. An example is: working in a restaurant at the Airport.
It is a menial job but because it is in an Airport, it is considered a high risk job and requires background checks, including a police record from your home country.
This depends largely on the area of the Airport environment you would be working.

Excuse me please. I'm currently in Nigeria and I'm wanting to go to Germany to study.
Please it's Germany safe for black students?
Also is German also really difficult as they say?
Then lastly, can I stay there even after my studies to maybe work or establish a business?
I'll be awaiting your reply. Thanks.
