SGR has been affected by the out break of covid 19 just like any other over the world,we are experiencing reduced imports which is key for the railway and passenger services were suspended.
This is not a failed project,it will soon break even;its viable and no day has Kenyan Government default in its loan obligation.Keep on dreaming.

Nairobi Commuter Rail Improvement

After the Spanish Island of Mallorca modernized their MGR line to modern electrified - kenya acquired their old DMUS. Saudi Arabia, France, Argentina are amongst other countries that bought the DMUs.

The DMUs are finally on the way. pics below they are being loaded onto trucks in Mallorca enroute to Barcelona and from where they will be shipped to Mombasa on the 21st of July 2020 & arrive 25 days later.

Nairobi commute rail carries 15k passengers daily - and with acquisition of DMUS - we will hit 135k passengers daily.

At which point - we will enough to justify a proper modern light/metro line in Nairobi.

Say a man from Nigeria - whose 1B dollars rail carries 400 passengers daily
Kenya SGR is doing great - in it's 3rd year of operation.
1st year of operation - revenues were around 50M dollars
2nd year of operation (2019) - it doubled to more than 110M dollars.
2020 with COVID - there is slight drop - but it will do more than 100m dollars..

And now that Naivasha line is in operations - and with transit cargo to hinterland countries expected to be rail there - we are set for more revenues.

And I bet this line will break even within the next 5yrs.
