You can learn anything at any age and be incredible at it. Even if you want to study medicine at age 40, you can and still be an incredible doctor. 1 Like 1 Share |

Yes you can but you need strong motivation and focus to achieve this. Don't be carried away with all the rah rah about the many frameworks available out there. Just try to learn the basis and the rest will follow once you're well grounded. romeo411: |

Suggestions are like asshole, each one of us have one.So I would implore you sit down and do your research into various programming fields you can explore, and figuring out the "how to get started" Check out this blog>> learntocodewith.me It's gonna really guide you in your programming path, and help you get started 2 Likes |

some of you here don't get that web design is different from web development. And no, building a website with wordpress doesn't make one a front end developer. PS: Front end developers are still in high demand 1 Like |

romeo411: I am over 40. Over the years, I have been a Database Admin, Application Support Staff and currently I am a Newtork Administrator. During this lockdown, I started programming. I has not been easy but I have no doubt that I will be a Master in the next 12 -8months. So, you can do it too. 3 Likes |

4dor:The thread is filled with many ignorant answers. Javascript that came out in 1995 the same time as java is what is called new and shiny. The same javascript that is being used in machine learning with tensorflowjs and can be used to make desktop applications with electron. 2 Likes |

4dor:I dont blame them o. It is those 10k website development people I blame. One even said android development is outdated alongside web development at a time when most people are moving applications to the web. You are having full scale desktop applications running on browsers today and its outdated. 4 Likes |

No you cannot you are wasting your time. Do something else that is easy. Be a carpenter. Nonsense. At 40 you can still be asking stupid questions. Please say it to your wife or to your mates and see if you will not receive insults and a dirty slap. 1 Like |

Re: At 40, Can I Still Learn Programming And Be Good At It? by saajus: 1:38pm On Jul 16, 2020 |
Yes, it is possible. just a few changes. I'm an average programmer in python not even proficient, and there was a time I want to work on an android app, I picked up the syntax within two weeks to achieve what I want. Not a complicated task, though. Just a simple day to day application. You know Android studio is Java. Remember, one can pick up the language quickly, but proficiency takes a lot of practice. One must be using it to solve problems daily to be proficient. Programming is not for everybody, especially people that can’t sit down in one place for so long. I have a similar problem, I can’t stay in one place for many hours. That’s why I prefer the architect side of it and leave the coding parts for others. You write a program for 1hr, you debug for 5hrs. That's why Introverts do better in coding. Meel: 1 Like |

ToyinDipo: Lol. There's actually no harm in trying. He can try. The thing is many of these people are more interested in more than they have passion for programming. At the end, they fall out soon and look to do other things. I know many people who started but lost out. 1 Like |
