Bro, Ozark is not shit. It's a well scripted, acted, directed, slow burning, crime drama. As is often the case with slow burners, it spends a bulk of it's beginnings developing the primary plot lines, secondary plot lines, character arcs, and so on. World-building is a very important part of storytelling. It can come off as boring, but it's the foundation of a story, and without it, a story won't have a bearing or reason.

I would advise you to be patient. Ozark is one of those shows that doesn't waste a scene for filler sake, or jump the shark. You might think that this so-and-so scene doesn't matter, that it's unnecessary, but I promise you, it matters. If you stick with it, every premised subplot that doesn't make a difference now, will make a difference later. Be patient and get through season 1, you'll be glad that you did. Cheers.

Ozark is grounded, and predicated on real life.

Can't say the same for Manifest and The Society. Two good shows in their own rights though.

It is anything but a given that TV shows adapted from books must parallel their source materials to the letter. Oftentimes, TV shows are loosely adapted, in that they offer similitudes in premise, but very different in their mode of narration, characters, and plot lines.

I'm as of now half-way through the TV adaptation of Snowpiercer, and from what I've seen so far, it's an extreme deviation from the source material. There are a great deal of plot characterizing highlights from the novel that are either skipped or disregarded. I surmise the makers needed the show to be not quite the same as it's source, in order to stop people that have read the novel from ruining the show for viewers and potential viewers.

Hence, it's a misstep to pass judgment on a TV adaptation of a novel solely on the premise that you've read the novel. You may wind up passing up a much better story than the one you've read.

You are right in all aspects but I just love to see my imaginations come alive. I also forgot to add that as the main reason why I haven't seen the snowpiercer series and I also stand by my opinion perhaps if they wanted to deviate from the source material then i'd rather they give shows adapted from books a different name but they will always give credits to the books.

When I mean credit, I also refer to it's legality. Casepoint, Terry Goodkind's sword of truth series were also adapted for tv but with a different name and also the into the badlands series also inspired by a book with a different name, obviously one can't use a writers content without their consent.

I don't really know, maybe it's because i'm more entangled to books or it's just me but whenever I watch a series and it doesn't mirror the source material, I feel betrayed and I feel like I betrayed the books and the author's vision. This is obviously just me though but that's the beauty of art, it's subjective

You should read the book first to know more, there are same sex loving characters in it and if they really wanna adapt the novel to the latter.... Be sure to see gay characters but maybe not in the first season though. I would advise you not to watch if there will be conflict of interest because the book is really good and quite addictive. They love to ease viewers into loving the series before adding new characters
As for me, i'm not watching, not because of the gay characters but after game of thrones season 4, I swore never to watch a movie or series adaptation of a book. I'd rather read the books instead

Also one of the reason I haven't focused on watching snowpiercer full time,I've been stuck at ep 2 for almost a month. This is mainly because I watched the main movie last two or three months ago.

The dude said Jason Bateman is boring, you might as well go and watch commando or Rambo. Even better, Jason Statham is great!!!
