I suggest that the best way to go is to dig SOAKAWAY now since what you done before is septic and concrete, and then link the formal. Or open the septic, evacuate the waste and now do it well.
Hope that will help

Hi good people, my site is close to water. Do I need foundation beam or I should just do my normal foundation and put membrane before German floor?
You need to go and do a soil test and you need a good Structural Designs of that place.

By the way, what type of structure are you putting on top of that place

Am having the same problem, are you a plumber? Maybe u can help me fix mine.

I'm not a plumber. I'm a homeowner. It is a common mistake of some builders leading to problems in future in majority of sites. The solution is very simple. Get a local bricklayer to make the tank soak away waste water from the sides of the tank NOT the bottom. Seal the bottom.

Do you know if this is a temporary issue? Is this a raw material (explosive) supply chain issue?

What are the chances of prices normalizing if/when the issue is resolved?
or should we be really worried and buy ahead for even future projects (like 3 months time)?

Chekitaut:
Serious issue on Granite market, explosive used in Quarry to blast stone price increase by 300%.

Island, V.I, Ikoyi, Lekki-Ajah price rise to N7,500/ton(transportation inclusive).

I will keep saying it Give your building construction to the real Builder, engr that knows there work.

I have said it here some pages backs that in real water lodge area you don’t need SUCKAWAY and SEPTIC TANK.only few people knows this
What you need in such area is called CESSPOOL
And there is way to construct that.
Go to Ajah lekki area in Lagos must people still do this mistake, how do you think water lodge area will suck water away, it’s not possible

Bituminous Felt membrane VS Chemical Admixtures ....

Which is more effective in the long run for waterproofing a roof slab with parapet walls which also serves as water tank deck and outdoor terrace space?

I had almost decided to go with the conventional bituminous felt solution until i recently stumbled on some projects where the chemical solution was used. The company (3sisters) claims their chemical admixtures option doesn't require maintenance unlike the felt that you have to redo every now and then.

1) Which of the two options is more effective and recommended and why? Assuming cost is not an issue, we just want the best solution.

2) Do have experience using the 3sisters company products? If not, can you recommend an alternative chemical admixture product.

Thanks

Bituminous felt has been the waterproof materials used in ages and I have never heard of changing it time to time in the history. Perhaps, the just want to persuade you in buying their product, request they give you warranty if you want to test their materials. Best of luck to you sir

The effect of Covid-19 affect the importation of this explosive, the raise of forex to N460 to $1. This is the reason from the Chinese operating the quarry. Cement & Iron rod will be affected too. we are only putting our fingers crossed for almighty Dangbese(Dangote)

Felt does indeed need to be entirely redone after some time - think between 15 to 25 years depending on how well it was done originally.

I have experience of this with felt roofing in temperate climate so I guess the lifetime will be even shorter in the tropics.

Consider this eventuality when you're constructing any tank structure atop the felt material.

Any alternative not requiring replacement is the 'uhuru' but there are many snake oil salespeople out there. This material would not have been tested long enough for them to claim its longevity and any warranty is useless since they'll not be around to honor this.

@megacontrol, DYOR and, if in doubt, stick with the tried and tested felt, making provisions for future replacement.

Good luck.

Personally, I would advice you to go with 3 sisters , the second picture you posted is actually the roof top terrace of my site at ikate , they are currently working there .. I have used bituminous felt severally and it’s not reliable.. 3 sisters 100%

That being said I really appreciate people here who take out their precious time to enlightening us about what we don't know.
