fortunately i work in a private school and all staff were paid till April. May till date only staff involve in virtual class are paid full salaries. other staff are getting half of their pay. please dont be a cheap private school teacher. get certification (international) and get a good private school and you wont have to pass through stress like this. honestly there is money working in a private school if you have the right qualifications.some people with those qualifications are still in some cheap private schools.Time and chance happens to them all.Be grateful you are lucky. There are more cheap private schools than those international School so a lot to absorb more unemployed. |

Where do you expect the school owners to find money to pay their staff? They have to feed themselves and pay their bills. Now if we didn't have satanic NWO / WHO people currently running the country , schools would have been financially compensated for being forced to remain closed so that they can maintain their business and pay their staff. |

This OP is just bitter. You did not blame govt that shutdown school but our overcrowded Market is running smoothly. You did a not blame yourself for not having alternate plans, you don't blame CoronaVirus... No, you blame someone is very much affected by the whole situation. Someone, unlike you that choose to create employment in a country where entrepreneurship is like death sentence. If the OP owned a school, he would have done worst, but as usual, he is blaming every one except himself for his mis-fortune. Because, all parent pay in advance, OP Should simply start his own school and start receiving his own payment in advance. Most people do not factor in rents and renovation and other factors if production that Entrepreneurs struggle with... All they see is the income.... Not the cost. 2 Likes |

I work as a teacher or let me say worked and I've always remained with that notion that an average proprietor in Lagos is a fraud Okay if you claim ,students didn't pay the concluding term before Coronavirus, what happened to previous fee? Because, from calculation ,just a class or 2 classes at most can pay almost all teachers salary and still have change sef. Or is it not this same school owners that will tell a teacher, you can't take just a subject, bombarding you with workload. I'm tired of them jare. You're exaggerating. A good number of parents don't pay the school fees until their children are about to write examinations. You are simply being dramatic by saying 96%. Remember there are parents on this forum as well as private school owners and teachers. Secondly, salaries in private schools are paid for services rendered and not for the mere marking of time. If the school owners go ahead and exhaust the money you claimed they have collected for a school term yet to conclude, what happens when the schools are finally asked to resume academic functions? Do you expect the parents who already paid for the term to make another payment? If you suddenly think about it and you say parents shouldn't be asked to pay twice since that would amount to cheating, where then would you expect the proprietors to get their teachers salaries from? Or proprietors should pay that from their pockets, or from loans? Where exactly? It is unfortunate that private school teachers are not being paid, but proprietors cannot take the blame for that. The schools are businesses and not charity houses or COVID-19 relief ground. Even private universities have started stopping their staff salaries. Don't blame them, it is the nature of the time we are in. Blame the individuals you guys helped (passively or actively) to elect into offices. uromii: 1 Like |

OP, I’m “%96” sure you know nothing about what you are dabbling into. Are you not in this country when some private schools asked parents to pay for 3rd term school fees when the government came for their heads and are here saying they have paid for 3rd term? What most people don’t understand is that parents hardly pay for school fees until it’s time for exams. It is only very few private schools (the elite ones) that collect fees for the entire session. See, I am a private school teacher and I have not been paid since April either but the way the society is demonizing school owners is not fair! What is their crime? They are no longer making money to pay teachers for goodness sake! When schools resume now, the school building needs to be put back in shape. Where do y’all think the money is coming from? Y’all should show empathy and channel your aggressions to the government. Their inadequacies is not the school owners’ fault! 2 Likes |

I understand the country we are in subconsciously mix the bad and good eggs together in situations like this. As a proprietor that I am, I have not fully collected the fees from parents before the lockdown. About just 40% have paid but still my teachers were paid fully from March to May. I went as far as giving them stipends for the month of June. Yes there’s an iota of truth in the subject matter. But, not all proprietors cheat their staffs. 5 Likes |

I have said it before, 80% of business owners in Nigeria don't know jack about running a biz. Just figure heads. For schools, I don't know why it's so difficult running such a biz. I was close to my proprietor during my NYSC so I know running a school isn't as difficult as many school owners make it seem. First thing for Pete's sake is to incorporate the biz. Please, separate running d school from d ownership. Secondly, get a good Finance Officer (not just an Accountant). Add an Admin Officer, followed by a Principal or Head Master. Spell out duties and functions clearly. Recruit teachers, and other staff. If your biz doesn't progress per time then call me a fool. But ignorance, greed, selfishness will never allow such owners do the right thing. Running biz in Nigeria is tough, but like our government officials, most biz owners know jack. 1 Like |

I honestly feel that this job of being a private school teacher should not be handled by married people who have so much responsibilities on them. People with waec certificate who are waiting for admission (As far as they're academically sound) should be the ones teaching in these private schools,or undergraduates can teach these primary and secondary school students. The pay is just too small for a family man or woman to survive on. Except all these private expensive schools like Loyola Jesuit, Atlantic hall etc... 2 Likes 1 Share |

Kazim88:Don’t mind them. If only they know what school owners pass through just to keep their school running. The levies and utilities they pay for. I really feel for them. For those that pay rent, now that school is not in session, their rent is still counting and NEPA is still bringing their estimated billings . 1 Like |

fujirice:let me explain something to you in brief. In the school I teach, a primary school, there are 13kids in my class they all paid before the middle of March. This happened because our proprietor is well informed and knew a lock down was imminent. Now multiple 15,000 naira by 13 pupils in my class. That's 195,000. Mind you my salary per month is 13k.. Multiply 13k by 3 months... 39,000 that's what I earn per term. Now ask yourself why my proprietor can not call us to just manage 5k since April upto now? You sef reason am naa shey e make sense to you? And other classes has more pupils than mine. 1 Like |
