Edo 2020: Over 87 APC Councilors Vow To Resist Obaseki’s Harassment To Join PDP by Freeman213: 8:40pm On Jul 20, 2020
Over 87 elected Councilors in the Edo State have vowed to resist the harassment and official intimidation meted out to them by Governor Godwin Obaseki to forcefully join the PDP.

The Councilors, most of whom were elected on the platform of the APC, dismissed claims of their defection allegedly sponsored in the media by Godwin Obaseki to portray false solidarity, while insisting that the Governor’s performance since 2016 has neither inspired confidence nor provided motivation for them to join his defection.

The spokesperson for the group, Hon. Emwinghare Osabuohien of Ward 2, Egor Local Government Council, condemned their suspension which he deemed illegal and the refusal of the state government to pay their salaries over the expression of their constitutionally protected freedom to associate and maintain membership of a preferred political party.

Other Councilors, including Hon. Okpamen Angela representing Ovia West, Hon. Kingsley Ogiri, and Hon. Godwin Ekhator, vowed to remain resolute in fighting for the victory of Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu and the All Progressives Congress at the polls on the 19th of September.

According to them, the few Councilors who defected caved in to the pressure and intimidation of the State Government.

If all this news about Obaseki is true then he’s worse than a snake.
He’s claiming the victim and behind the scene he’s the one oppressing people.
If you’re popular why force people to defect with you? that must be something they do willingly.

Obaseki is claiming to resist godfatherism. If he secure a second term, he will end up enthrowning cult-fatherism in place of godfatherism in Edo politics; something worse than what he purports to fight. Only confraternities keep membership and followership by force..

Those jobless folks, before the appointment what where they doing nothing.

None of them will dear challenge the governor cause they know the consequences.

It takes only a person who is productive, who is able to take care of him or herself, with or without the present job to look their boss in the face and say go to Hell with the fucking job.

Most of Nigeria youths, lacks basic skills, lacks visions and depends solely on patronage from these resources looters

It is obvious Obaseki will loose. This is not the way to play politics. Desperation for office in Edo has never been this bad. Sept 19 cannot come early enough for the people of Edo to right the mistake of 2016.
Obaseki online supporters who are silent in the face of this obvious use of state might I hope will remain silent when apc decides to use federal might.

My brother y should there be consequences.they were not appointed by the governor they were elected by their people. It is like Buhari oppressing legislators.if they have policy differences no problem. Y should there be negative consequences for making a choice in democracy. Obaseki is using state might to the fullest those who are silent I hope they will not find their voice when apc decides to apply federal might.

Point of correction!
Those 'suspended' councillors are/were never appointees of the governor because they were not appointed to the position of councillorship by him.
They were constitutionally elected as councillors by their people and only those their people have right to tell them what to do.
Suspending them on the fact or allegations that they refused to defect with the governor amount to executive rascality on the part of the governor which can be changed at a court of competent jurisdiction if democracy is what we are talking about.
Obaseki has shown here that he is a pretend-democrat, a detector in a democratic regalia as usual.
