Many places like hospital, supermarket,bank etc already had hand sanitizer before this virus.

Great analysis. If he doesn’t have the passion for programming but only wants to delve into it because of the hype and buzz around it, he’ll quit sooner than later.
If he’s a family man, he should stick to his job or whatever brings him income and learn programming as an extra skill, not abandoning his current job and switching fully like he’s trying to do. Else he’ll be frustrated quickly due to lack of income while learning.
I am also learning Javascript alongside my normal job, when I am well grounded, I’ll look for a programmer job.

You could go with nodejs and mongodb or PHP and My SQL. Also learn one framework. Express for nodejs or laravel for PHP.
You can start with freecodecamp to get an Introduction and you could get courses on udemy. This is what I recommend.
You can get any html course and follow through but for CSS I recommend CSS the complete guide by Maxmillian schwarz, JavaScript the complete guide by Maxmillian schwarz, react the complete guide by Maxmillian schwarz. He's very detailed. Back to back it should take you around six months to finish his courses and don't forget to build stuff alongside. He also has courses for nodejs, however for PHP you might want to go with courses from Edwin Diaz.

Backend should take you another six months and don't forget to build while learning.

It has being few months since I began to learn a language( python to be precise). Data science / Machine learning is my proposed fort.

From your advise above, I can see that you didn't make mention of data science at all. I have being doing some findings, (quora, Reddit) people's opinion and i have reached a logical conclusion that Data science has more teachers than practitioners. And in suport of this, advert for learning data science is much more than job placement.
As you stated above, I am trying to switch path, thinking of Java. ( app developer).
Data science is cool to me, but I don't want to be committed to a venture that won't be profitable. I am not saying Data science is not lucrative, but I want something favorable in my environment ( Nigeria labor market).

Hello Friend,

I advice you as a Programmer doing Website Design & Software development and not a Website designer.

I am also assuming you said "Programming" as a career switch and not website design.

If family or girlfriend is not in the way, go to a good computer college and enroll for C++ & Java programming or Python. You can even write oracle Java certification later on to boost your career.

To succeed in anything, you will need a considerable amount of time learning, practice and internalising. You will be patient while learning and honing your skills.

Don't waste time with YouTube or online coding schools. It's for those that already know their way around coding.

Do not go for HTML5, css and JavaScript lessons. Do not go for new and shiny stuffs like Js and the likes. You can add those later when you have mastered Core programming languages.

Web Design is not real career. Don't come to be begging for website design on Nairaland.com like a good number of us.

Take this advice from a 39yo man like you and you will not regret it.
