Edo People What Do You Think Of Biafra And Their Ambition? by Nobody: 1:24pm On Jul 20, 2020
This question is for only Edo people.

We've been hearing about igbos and their quest to have their own country, they went to war in 1967 because of it..

They are claiming part of our territory even in Edo state as their own(igbanke). While some are even claiming our allies in Delta State (urhobo, itskerri).

Most of them don't want Edo people in their country (which I love) but they want to take some of our territory along with them.

What do you think about biafra?? Do you support them?

Biafra has no business with Edo or claiming any part of Edo. True, the igbanke of Edo speak ibo but thats about what there is to it. They are settlers.

All over the south, even in the SE, up to Benue & Kogi there are people speaking Edoid languages. Edos will not go there to claim their land or impose anything on them. Its common sense.

In this era of social media & free speech, online or public space is littered with junk & half thoughts. We must be smart about what we react to.

Edo has never been involved directly or indirectly with the Biafra struggle. Edo has no part to play or relationship of any sort with the struggle. Safe to say Edo do not support & also are not against but no doubt their body language is tilted towards Nigeria. More like a neutral with a preference. I also dont think the Igbo see them as their antagonists.

Anybody anywhere is entitled to self determination. It's the manner in which they go about Biafra that's abhorrent. The bullying, brow beating, insults etc. They want to practice freedom of expression while denying anyone with a dissenting view the same rights. My question is, will the leadership of Biafra come from the moon? Is it not going to be more of the thieving lot that we are already accustomed to who call themselves politicians that will lead their nation? People without honour to whom the end justifies the means? Will it not be another African ....hole country where might is right and national wealth will go to the winner who takes all?
Another issue is that Igboland never produced empires like the hausa/fulani, Yoruba and Edos by the advent of the British colonialists. How do they now go about using Biafra to create one belatedly? Not every Igbo speaking people are igbos, ditto hausa, but the Biafran agitator will insult you for mentioning that. I am for giving them Biafra if possible - but I don't believe it will last. The Enugu man will discriminate against the Onitsha man and the Owerri man. Please give them let's see how feasible it is!

No one claimed Edo state or even Igbanke. You can't say because of a few Biafran nationalist that you've seen claiming Igbanke or any sort of igboid affiliation that they claim part of your territory, that means they need your land. That's silly!

If you say so, what about Edo's I've seen claiming people from Imo state even as far as Northern and Eastern Anambra lands, I even heard some claim Onitsha. So you hold your judgement.

Biafra as I perceive it, it's a democratic union of states coming together to fight a similar cause, it is not "Fight and conquer" like how your Oba did to the lands surrounding him. See it more like the United States, their fight against Britain's Draconian rule, then you'll know the actual cause of Biafra's determination.
Stop giving petty tantrums, Biafra is a decision, if you want to join, join and participate in giving your wishes for a purely democratic state, but no monarchy would hold any power in the constitution and any government that seems to have more power over the people would be brought down, simple.

So my dear Edo people, don't let people control your thoughts, if you desire to fight for a cause to make better your lives, do so. If not, then you can stay. No one and I say no one is forcing anybody.

PS: Every region have miscreants, don't judge views from a few thugs or unlearned men and say that's what Biafra is saying. That's utter silliness. smiley

I support biafra but I wouldn't want Edo to be part of it.

Biafians should stop killing themselves and they should stop all this propaganda....I advice them to call all their elites together including governors, reps, senators so that they can follow legal way of seclusion .

There is not a single community in SE speaking an Edoid language.

What we have are some communities in SE who are Igbo speaking but with delusional and irrational stories of migrations from Bini.

Additionally, Igbanke are not settlers in those lands. They just had their land carved into Edo state instead of Delta state like the rest of Igbo speaking communities in the old Asaba division, because they were always scared of Agbor domination and chose to pitch their tent with Edo.
Additionally, Ogbemudia who is Bini but whose mother was Igbanke also played a big role in Igbanke being carved into Edo state instead of Delta like the rest of the Ika speaking groups.

Any claim that doesnt suit your narrative is delusional & irrational?

Its obvious you went to do a quick research to make that reply, no problem. Unless that with issues like this; you need to read diverse opinions & history on all sides to fully grasp.

No part of Delta state will join Biafra.. If any Delta Igbos want to be part of Biafra they can take a canoe and paddle across the river niger to the east. The geographical area will never be part of biafra..

You guys know only the word Biafra and know nothing about history.
Let me educate you a little bit:

1)Delta state was previously part of Bendel (Benin province and Delta province making up the same state)

2) Bendel was previously part of midwest (still Benin province and Delta province together)

3) Midwest was previously part of western region (Benin province and Delta province still together)

4) in the précolonial era, Benin province and Delta province were both part of Benin empire ruled by the Oba of Benin.

So tell me the link between Delta state and the south east, history seems to have failed to capture it.

Also the people in the south east claiming their ancestors migrated from Benin are actually justified by precolonial maps which show their current land as being part of Benin empire (they actually didn't migrate, they are still part of the empire). I will post some of these maps when I have the time

No we can never be under the niger delta Republic we are outspoken even as a minority in a country of 250 plus ethnic group and we still be outspoken, if we remain an indigenous Republic, and we have no oil, we also have no link to the sea we would just be like the north in the niger delta Republic surviving on the south for survival we will be marginalized by the other niger delta Republic

And we cant go with the yorubas those people are born cowards till eternity, Biafra has a better chance of survival than those cowards, of 40 million tribe

We cant join the igbos either our culture and ideology dont match edo will be great on its own the British punished us by adding us to this fucking shithole instead of giving us a country of our own

The esan and estako people are the edo Republic
I speak off, everyone of is gonna enjoy the republic together, remember its both Oshiomhole and shaibu that are both fighting oshiomole and not necessarily a tribal war, benin and estako

When you make an analysis consider these 2 things.. The people and the Land.
If the people choose to be biafrans they are free to migrate to Biafra (east) land.. But the Land they currently occupy goes nowhere, will never be part of biafra, it belongs to Edo..

No one ever recorded Igbanke as Edo. Precolonial maps recorded them and the rest of Delta North as Western Igbo.

The problem with the Biafrans is that instead of looking for their freedom which is what they keep claiming, they are trying to grab other people's lands.
They believe it is their right to carve out land for themselves in an other man's territory.

You lack education.

There was Eastern and Western Igbo.

The Western Igbo were first in Southern Nigeria with Eastern Igbo, until 1938 when the southern Nigeria was divided into Eastern and Western regions.
In western region, the western Igbos were in Benin province (Ika and Enuani) together with Edos, while the rest ( Ukwuani/Ndokwa) were in Warri Province.
When Midwest was carved out, they became known as Midwest Igbos, and one of them, in the person of Dennis Osadebay became the first premier of the new Midwest region. Chukwuma Nzeogwu an Igbo from Midwestern region became the leader of the so called Igbo coup. After the war,Midwest became renamed to Bendel, and the Midwestern Igbos were now called Bendel Igbos. But the Bendel Igbos and the Edoids (Urhobo, Isoko), Itsekiri and Western Ijaw, complained of Bini domination in Bendel state. So the Del was removed from Bendel, and Delta state was created. The Benin chose to rename their state Edo state.
The Igbos were now called Delta Igbos, until they evolved a new name pioneered by Dennis Osadebay called Anioma.
So today , we call them Anioma or Delta Igbos.

The evolution was =

Western Igbos - Midwestern Igbos -Bendel Igbos(Ika Igbos) - Delta Igbos- Anioma.

So yes. There have always been Igbos in both banks of the River Niger, just as there have always been Ijaws on both banks.

Language in the end will count. Because nothing preserves history more than language.

So saying language, especially first language and mother tongue is not identity is dubious when you are fighting tooth and nail to make them drop their own language for yours to unify them.

Language uniformity offers unity and a sense of natural and not forced union.

Language uniformity is so important that the biblical God had to create multitude of languages to divide the men trying to build a tower into the sky.
Without a common language, it's impossible to have a viable union. This is why artificial countries create a common lingual franca to unite everyone.

You Edo, Igala and Ijaws trying to capitalize on Igbo loss of power post civil war to annex Igbo speaking groups unto yourselves in hope to swell your numbers, must know that this state of affairs will not last for long.
Eventually your time will be up.

They have never been in the same entity with the south-east. (Except you want to talk about when the entire south was regrouped into one a period which started around 1901 due to colonisation and ended around 1914 and not 1938 as you claimed you ignoramus)

Your empire of blood and gore is gone.
Your subjects if they were one in the past were freed and you yourselves were subjected under the British empire and made minorities.

Move on Biko.

Dennis Osadebay who coined the word Anioma was one of the main pillars of Igbo State Union before the war, and founders of Ohanaeze Ndiigbo post civil war.
The Asagba of Asaba is currently a grand patron of Ohanaeze Ndiigbo.
You can't be speaking of empire in 21st century. Not cool at all.
