Mugiwaraluffy: I don't know if you noticed but AFSF have been rotated out of the NE.... one of the few effective ways of securing our routes that hasn't been utilized is the use of snipers and real special forces in the standard of early SBS , to monitor routes that troops are passing. Left to me the army special forces are rush jobs that fall below standard. 2 Likes |

Tobiloba2407:That's it. I have a friend that was in AFSF, active around 2014-2016 (not exactly sure of the year) or so before he was rotated. They were effective to an extent on those guys. Army have a sniper regiment or so and I've not really heard their exploits in this war so far. Snipers are very deadly and can change the tide of an attack if used effectively. This ambushes can be reduced to an extent before we get drones. Before the advent of drones, militaries have been in existence and found ways to avoid ambush. Just like Komekn said some days ago even though I don't completely agree with all his ideas, when ure in a war, expect everything possible and impossible, every single move that can be used against you, every option and how it can be carried out effectively against you, then find a way to eliminate all possible threats, have contingency plans in case shit goes south. Getting ambushed all the time is almost the same as not preparing for the attack before hand. Even though your plan would fail, at least try it out, let's try something new. Only then can we know our strength and weakness. I believe our Generals are smart and know what they ought to do. Let's hope they'll prove to be effective in making the right decisions to end this war. 4 Likes |

Tobiloba2407:Is AFSF not real special forces? And are they not trained to reasonable standards. These guys have been sent to train with some of the best in the world And note some SBS personnel are being drafted to this Special forces. In my opinion, the only thing SBS has more than AFSF is age and popularity. |

Mugiwaraluffy: Have you heard the banter between military men" you dey operational base, nah you get money you just tear house , you just buy car".....the biggest operational base in Nigeria right now, is from the north central to the extreme northern zones. Go figure out why this war hasn't ended.... 1 Like |

GeneralFarouq:I think you're not getting his point. He thinks AFSF are not present in NE again and everyone is operating their own special forces there. He thinks Army special forces are not trained to an extent compared to AFSF. AFSF was a joint task force operation and I think each force contributed a certain amount of men to constitute that task force. |

Tobiloba2407: If you sabi some of these men, or know someone that knows someone that knows someone that knows a military personnel, you go laugh tire. Some matters can't and shouldn't be discussed in public forums. That's why sometimes I don't blame SamuelAnyawu(forgive my spelling errors pls) or komekn. In the case of the former, he has an idea of what's going on coz of his interactions with personnel while in the latter, he's an idealist (the earlier most people realise this the better). Our generals are somehow comfortable with the status quo, maybe coz they're benefiting directly or indirectly from the war and don't really care about it since they know they're safe and nothing can really touch them. Hence the lackadaisical approach to this war. On the other hand, I wouldn't blame the theater commanders and GOC because you can only use the resources you're given and there's absolutely nothing u can do again. You complain, court martial dey wait u or they'll demote ur rank. They want to use that general to scare others from complaining in the future. That's my opinion 10 Likes |

GeneralFarouq:Ok, well I don't understand how they're able to produce en mass within a short period of time I think 3 months or so (kindly correct me if I'm wrong). Is the training a crash program or they'll just get the basics and called special forces? US seal are trained for 2 year, green barrett, delta force, rangers etc are trained for similar duration. I understand we're in desperate times and we need special forces too, but I don't think the quality of special ops should be compromised irrespective of the situation. Check out SBS, why do you think according to some experts, they are rated among the best in Africa? The quality of those SBS commando is not compromised to an extent. I still believe we have intelligent and good officers that can bring effective change. Let them go back to the table to discuss, plan and strategise 2 Likes |

GeneralFarouq: AFSF were trained to a higher degree than army special forces....bht avoided contact with SBS and AFSF most times ....Oga SBS can never be drafted into AFSF , SBS works in small teams, this teams can come together and work as a bigger team. Mind you, I have never criticized AFSF . With the training and comms gear and equipment AFSF had, if the standard was improved, or maintained we won't be where we are now |

Mugiwaraluffy:Salient points. To be fair to NAF, they have assets scattered in different theatres. However I believe there should be assets on standby for "distress" alone. As for the AFSF, I really don't know how indispensable the Theatre command see them now. Whatever way they're seeing, they're not utilizing them well. That term "relentless offensive" is only achievable with special units. They don't necessarily need to take the battle to the enemy, they just need to keep harrying and stirring the hornets nest e.g Sniper attacks, shock mortar attacks, assassinations etc 3 Likes |

Mugiwaraluffy:Honestly, NA smokes the wrong stuff when it comes to SF. Anyway, the 3 months course that most of their "SF" take is basically like the British P Company/AACC (Not in standard but idea). Produce highly fit, mobile soldiers with better infantry skills. However there are "real SF" guys with the long drawn course (copied Pakistani) and part are those you see at Flintlock. P.S If you remove the language training for US Green Bs, you'd have a significantly shorter training duration. 3 Likes |

Tobiloba2407:Not the one. No strength to run through my library. So, if it were just Navy personnel, where did all the skills go after the tour with AFSF? Did AFSF have a separate selection? |
Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by Tobiloba2407: 6:33pm On Jul 21, 2020 |
Odunayaw: AFSF has seperate selection, some people even lobbied for it, as it was foreign course, they wanted the foreign currency attached, I know of a rating complaining to me, that he passed the physical and he was selected and his name was later removed.....I'm sure later on, after the guy seeing KIAs he would thank who removed his name. I know some where withdrawn from the north east, and sent to Kaduna to fight bandits couple of years ago. Recently I have been too busy, so I haven't really been interacting with people in that line, as I'm enjoying my own life now, God be with the men at the edge of the line |

SamuelAnyawu: It is a BTR there are a number of variants some Russian and Ukrainian made. I can't see the turret and only the side view, however making an informed guess from the mid engine positioning, my conclusion is that it's the Ukrainian BTR4. It is a very good APC almost close to an IFV if you have the PARUS RWS which will give you night and day precision weapon targeting in ranges of excess of 4000m. It has a 30mm 3TM-1 automatic gun, 40mm automatic grenade launcher, 7.62mm mg and the Barrier ATGM. Nigeria did not buy them in enough numbers to make any kind of impact not more than 10. And the last time l saw one in the NA they had cannibalized it by putting a HMG on top of it in the most rudimentary way rendering the RWS inoperative. 4 Likes |

komekn: The army refused to buy 30mm rounds for the gun, claiming it's too expensive, and proceeded to beg the air force for 30mm rounds, the air force turned them down, that's why they don't use the RWS 3 Likes |
