I have gone through most of this thread and it has been quite useful. Here is my case; I am a 31 year old Electrical Engineer in Qatar with 7+ years construction sector experience. I intend to move away from Qatar to a country with a PR pathway ASAP. I saw that NZ gives 3 years post study visa after masters and got interested hence why I came to this thread. Is it easier to obtain PR after completing a masters or any degree PG course? Which schools would you advise I apply to? I would appreciate any insight and advice from the elders in the house as I start this journey. Thanks

Aim for universities outside Auckland to get the 3 years - Massey in Palmerston North, Waikato Uni in Hamilton (huge construction work going on around that area plus it's 1.5 hours from Auckland) Lincoln Uni in ChCh(again massive redevelopment going on there too). With your work experience, you should be able to pick up a job in your field easily.

Bros from my understanding of the information on their portal, the visit visa is same for tourist. New Zealand's visit visa is used for touring as well. Please do well to hi me on kl_bakare@yahoo.com. I love this your brief description thread on things to expect in new Zealand.

Good morning. Please how did it go?

Honestly I wish I came across this post before applying for NZ scholarship, this thread has been comprehensive and very helpful, I feel I won't have applied for university of Auckland but well we move. I'm presently in the interview phase and was hoping to find others with experience.
Please a question I would like to ask is, are there people who have gotten NZ government scholarship here and if yes, where you able to stay and work in newzealand afterwards(I'm asking cause the scholarship says you must return and help develop your country after your studies).

In respect to what baba Femi said that one is not allowed to stay back after studies on scholarship basis. Please I would like to ask some few questions
1. Is there any degree specifications to that ie phds or masters inclusive .
2. Does it mean you won’t be issued the three years working visa after your studies
3. What if the person sponsored himself and not bound by the scholarship
4. Lastly, for instance for a PhD student in health related fields happens to get a work Or for better for worse mechanism, on or before his or her studies elapses, what happens then ?
Any other person with ideas can help out as well wit the questions

1) No specification, it applies to all level of education
2) Yes, No post study work visa
3) If you sponsored yourself then you are eligible to apply for the post study work visa and stay back.
4) You have an obligation to go back. I only heard about a Cameronian who got asylum due to the crisis back home. I also learnt of a guy from Botswana who was willing to pay back the scholarship money and still had his post study work visa denied.

Hi Chikabel,
I advice you look up the NZ immigration website, any one in the medical line profession is highly sought after here, though am not sure if you have to take some courses before you can work here.

Hi,

As an electrical engineer,to practise in NZ, you have to be registered with the electrical board,
https://www.ewrb.govt.nz/

Kindly go through the procedure and get registered before coming over, you will be at advantage to work in NZ, possibly work in AUS as well, but it sure a highly sought after profession here.

Thanks for the heads up bro @ugsams
But have you heard about any case of someone that came with scholarship being granted study or resident permit as a result of marriage.

While in Auckland, Dr Amidu had said I can give his contact to Nigerians trying to seek admission to the uni in NZL, but I forgot completely when I returned.

He lectures at University of Auckland and the Deputy HOD for faculty of Property

Good Day, I have an Unconditional Offer and a Conditional Offer for Master of Engineering Studies- Taught and Master of Engineering by Research respectively from University of Auckland. Both are for the Civil Engineering specialization, I sent a pm to discuss some things please acknowledge.

Hi

It's best you discuss here for others to contribute.

Femi and others can assist if I can't answer all questions

OK no problem.
You said you have the contact of a Lecturer working in a UoA in the Dept. Of Property.

I wanted to inquire about any funding options available to prospective students like me, something like a partial scholarship for Master of Engineering Studies- Taught and Master of Engineering by Research (Civil Engineering).

I contacted the university and they sent an EOI form for a Graduate and Teaching Assistant position. But I haven't enrolled for the Masters programme yet so I don't know if I'll be selected for the Graduate and Teaching position with UoA.

Modified
The school fees is quite large
46k NZD

So any form of funding or assistantship will be appreciated

It's really a hard one bro. If you can seek scholarship directly I'm sure you will find lots of scholarship position available. if you have a good academic research record it will sure help.i have seen one of our mates who got admission into PhD from bachelor's. I must give it to him, he is good with research and has got lots of academic publication.

On the other hand, if you can afford the cost by any means, it will be worth it at the end of the day. Usually I advise people to go for PhD in NZ instead of MSc except you're really loaded
