Trump saw that and has been trying to reverse this trend.
Today now, the 2 of them are fighting each other.

Anything you want to make in Nigeria, somebody has already imported the cheap one from China thereby rendering your own local made to be too expensive and not favourable to the public.

The production strength you are referring to is manpower which is irrelevant in today's world. USA basically outsourced manual labour to China. They have focused on the mental work which is what is dominant factor in production. Now attention is shifting towards India with Foxconn planning to invest in building factories there. I am yet to see an original idea come out of China. While both countries are specialist in stealing trade secrets, China has benefited more from it because USA is global Centre for research and development. The reason USA has invested over the years in China is because of the market size, purchasing power and cheap labour. America is China’s dream.

The Americans could manufacture everything they need in the US....(that's one good policy of Trump).

The problem is

1.American companies compete on a global platform. Let's say that Apple stopped making its products in China. Other phone companies like Samsung, and co would slip into China , set up their factories, and take advantage of the low costs to manufacture and export cheap phones abroad.

Meanwhile Apple, who has by now moved all manufacturing to America would be forced to raise prices because the cost of US labor is higher than the cost of Chinese labor.

Result....Apple makes big losses.Samsung takes over.

2.People...not just Nigerians or Americans...people as a whole love cheap stuff. And companies also love to make profits. Manufacturing in China is one way companies can keep their products cheap while making big profits.

China is really evil and the earlier the whole world come together to fight them the better. I ordered some items like digital thermometers but for almost 2 months now they have not arrived because the Chinese government has introduced some astronomical charges on these pandemic fighting products knowing that the whole world is relying on them for supply, thereby taking advantage of the situation instead of helping to fight the pandemic. Were it to be USA, it will not only subsidize the products but will even make them tax free to expedite their delivery so as to help humankind.

I've never been an apostle of Trump because I thought many of his policies are extreme but the truth is the world needs the USA more than ever before.
