It's so simple. Through infra red or advance scanning sensors and cameras mounted on strikers, which always is in synchronisation with Space satellite, they could easily scan and detect all amunitions, radioactive materials, missiles, atomic bombs and the likes.

US would have drop the plane instantly. And mind you, advance surveillance had been mounted both on space, water and borders to counter any strike from Iran in retaliation to the general killed.

Don't underestimate technology.... It could be that the only way for them to know the contents of the aircraft was scanning it mid air from close proximity...
