Yoruba Leaders Threaten Boycott Of 2023 Polls by Nobody: 8:41am On Jul 25, 2020
Prominent Yoruba leaders have threatened to boycott the 2023 elections unless the country restructures.
The leaders also decried the state of the nation, saying, “The ship of state is veering off precariously into a precipice, and that Nigeria is at the very edge of a political subsidence.”

This was contained in the communiqué issued at the end of the meeting of the Yoruba Summit Group.
Yoruba leaders including Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fashoranti, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, President, Yoruba World Congress, Prof. Banji Akintoye, Aare Onakakanfo, Gani Adams, former Ondo Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, Dr. Tokunbo Awolowo-Dosunmu, among others participated in the meeting.
In the communiqué signed by Mogaji Gboyega Adejumo, the leaders said, “We are persuaded that nothing short of restructuring can save this country. Any attempt to go ahead with elections in 2023 without addressing the issue of restructuring would spell doom for Nigeria.”
The group decried the lopsided appointment in the country and the state of insecurity.
The communiqué said: “The emerging resolve of the Yorubas not to be part of vassal state that Nigeria has become, is better managed with due accommodation before any further degeneration and obvious consequences.
“Our quest shall henceforth be to mobilise the masses of our peoples not to participate in any further elections until the goal of Restructuring or Self-determination is attained.
“Notwithstanding the interests of some elements in our midst, It would be presumptuous to assume that the masses of the educated Yoruba Nation will dive headlong into being part of the 2023 elections, when all elements of its execution – the Military, Paramilitary, INEC, the Judiciary have been rigged and appropriated by a single very tiny minority Ethnic Group in a small corner of the country.”
The leaders called the Muhammadu Buhari administration to take “confidence building steps” ahead of the 60th Anniversary of Nigeria as an independent Nation on October 1, 2020.
“Steps towards an urgent meeting of all nationalities have to be taken now to determine the nature of our relationships.
“Unless this peaceful step is heeded to, so that Nigeria heads in the right direction thereafter, the clear alternative would be for self-determination quests to proceed rapidly without any further restraint.
“It has become patently untenable for the Yoruba Nation to tolerate further incompetence and impunity as has been foisted on all other ethnic nationalities across Nigeria.”

I had told yorubas not to boycott anything be it muslim-yoruba Friday prayers or christian-yoruba Sunday service...Nothing should be boycotted.

This is the height of hypocrisy nigerians can see from a group of people?

where is our 90 billion naira firs fund?

where is our 225m dollars alpha beta scam money?

where is 4bn magu transferred to osinbajo through bank app?

If you must come to equity, then come with clean hands.

You accuse buhari of lopsided appointment but over 35 aides of osinbajo where all yorubas...if not that late ABBA kyari started northern restructuring from his office(vp) by sacking all of them...

On issues of Insecurity why accusing buhari of not doing well when osinbajo said that Nigerians should pray so that insecurity will go away..( more of yorubas proposed 2023 man).

So buhari is banking on support of prayers and his vice been a pastor and a professor there is no doubt for him (buhari) not to believe the learned professor of prayers.

MEANWHILE IS THE PRESIDENT BACK FROM HIS PEACE KEEPING MISSION IN MALI?

They expect an ex military general who fought for the unity of the country to come and restructure it? Why didn't they ask their own son General Obasanjo to restructure from '99-'07 when he was cornering appointments and positions for his Yoruba people

They're not our representatives, hungry set of people. If you truly want restructuring, you tell me you're boycotting an election that can help you achieve that.

Boycotting election is not a solution.
Restructuring is not possible.
Unifying the nation is not possible.

Fate of this nation: chronic confusion.

Restructuring have been used by both PDP & APC to attain power but all was a political charade to attain power. Now is the time for a people to get it done but will ethnic & political sentiments all it? Only a revolution can achieve it.

Medicine after death.

yoruba votes have been useless since 1959, their voters have lost 8 of the 11 national elections held since 1959, so we are not going to be bothered.

Whether they boycott or not, it won't change a thing. Their votes are not consequential, they have only 6 states, the remaining 30 states will go on and choose national leaders. Nigerians do not care.

Leaders without followers want to boycott election. Who will listen to them?

These same “Yoruba leaders” endorses Jonsthan in 2025, we all saw how it ended.

In 2023, Yorubas will participate actively in the election whether or not the country is restructured. We will put up candidate to contest for president and vote massively for our various choices.

Stop deceiving yourself. Yorubas will participate actively in 2023. We will form alliance with other ethnic groups to determine who will lead Nigeria same way we’ve been doing since 2015.
