only 8 out of the 12 are functional.

Maybe we should just tryout nuclear energy as another option for generating electricity

Nuclear energy is not suitable for a country that lacks basic maintenance culture! undecided

Some of the best infrastructures in Nigeria were done under military rule.

I don't understand how water is use to generate electricity

I can't seem to understand at all

Can someone please explain, how can a body of water generate electricity

The water is used to drive turbines. Water is channeled under high pressure to drive the vanes of the turbines. As the turbines are driven, they generate electricity.

Informative. When the country was still corruption free. If it were our present day contractors we know the rest 'blame games and corruption charges' as well as 'fainting and epilepsy' when held accountable.

Wonderful and educative piece. Thanks OP. The pics are breahtaking

But FG should at least help install the additional 4 turbines so that we can have access to more power.

Can't believe we have not installed them after all thes.e years

Install wetin?

Turbine Money wey Snake don Swallow since 1973~ grin grin grin

Nigeria started well and eve the Western World was afraid that it is going to be the rallying point for Black Reniassance, world-wide but Evil Nigerians with their foreign collaborators aborted the hte baby and arrested its development.

That's the truth not seems.
Democracy seems to be a scam, more political stealing, killing, etc compared to Dictatorship.
The most durable projects we can point at today we're done under military regime, our only succour which is freedom of speech seems to even be under threat already

Re: The Kainji Dam In Pictures by Naijaepic: 8:55pm On Jul 26, 2020
In answering your questions, ask yourself this simple question.

What will be the value of Kanji hydro plant to Nigeria, if and only if, all the countries that river Niger pass through decided to build dam on its course to generate electricity.

Nigeria is the last country on which river Niger pass through before it offload into India ocean.

Gowon's regime was exceptional. That time Nigeria was so rich that we didn't know what to spend money on. After his regime, the rest is history.

I'm a private school teacher. I lost my job due to the covid-19 pandemic, I've been living on my savings ever since coupled with some money I had borrowed from friends. I've been scouting for job to at least get something to cater for daily feedings and start settling my debts but it seems there's no way out of this.

Right now, I've no single kobo on me, the last time I eat anything was on Friday. It's tiring and I'm so depressed already.

Because we asked them not to dam the river Niger. River Niger pass through a number of countries and each can claim the right to dam it. However, if one of them dams it then Nigeria will have little or nothing.

Hmm. Kainji dam is under Borgu LGA of Niger state... Bros the land mass alone in Borgu is more than 2 to 3 states combined in the east...

Those that have visited can testify..

There are places inside borgu emirate that would take you 4 - 6 hours to get to..

Bosses I wonder why companies and investors are not coming here maybe it's due to location and distance..

Light 24/7. But their head set touch atimes

Peace is guaranteed

An army barrack with 2 battalions...

An Air Force base where our amiable first female fighter jet pilot is... I even saw her yesterday in town.....

See guys Borgu is so large that even some people in the state don't even know how large it is...

Ask me anything about kainji dam and Borgu... Am at your service because I stay and live there...

lol. There re what they call turbine, it's fan blade-like. It's installed below water of the dam wall. Then the pressure of the water trying to flow through the wall turns the blades (turbines) which produces a mechanical energy and then converted to electrical energy

To imagine the old pix has a better view of the dam compared to the new pix even with the availability of drone technology now is highly shameful.

Who ever took those pix did a Shabby job.
