One good thing about a conference center in Anambra is that at least you can hold a lot of key events for the South-East and actually draw a lot of visitors for these reasons:

1) Anambra is the gateway to the SE with the iconic Niger Bridge and upcoming Second Niger Bridge.

2) Awka is central in the SE being 45 minutes from Onitsha. 1.5 hours from Owerri, 1 hour from Enugu, 1 hour from Asaba.

3) Onitsha is the distribution center of the SE and has the largest number of markets and could host a lot of trade exhibitions in a modern setting

4) Anambra is the political capital of the South-East (sorry Enugu) and a 10,000 capacity Conference hall can host major political conventions

5) For the first time, Anambra will be able to host the large national associations - National Bar Association, National manufacturing Association, National Medical Association, etc. when before it didnt have the capacity to do so.

6) Anambra will be able to host International university Conferences of stature such as the African Movie Awards, Music Awards, Business Events, etc.

7) Anambra for the first time will be able to host big-ticket weddings and events.

If the Awka ICC is able to draw at least 100,000 guests a year with average spending of 30,000 that is revenue of 3 billion. It will help the state owned Agulu Lake Hotel and other hotels will create jobs for taxi drivers, caterers and food vendors, waiters and waitresses, publishing and advertizing companies, telecom providers and shopping outlets.

It will market the state as a major business destination and increase the flow of investment from companies setting up shop in the state. More investment will create more jobs for graduates coming out of the universities in the state.
Yes! I totally agree with you on this!. I do believe also that Onitsha needs at least two World-class Conference Centres in other to help it maintain its position as an economic and commercial City!

“We will surprise the World in November over Anambra State Cargo Airport.” —C. Don Adinuba

The above statement was made by the Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr. C. Don Adinuba.
Mr Adinuba was speaking at an Elombah TV Zoom interview held on Friday 24th July, 2020.
The topic of the Zoom meeting was “The Achievements Of Governor Willie Obiano Administration“.

He was asked about the condition of the cargo airport which the Obiano administration promised Anambra people.

Adinuba, who was full of praises for the administration he represents, smiled and said that a big surprise awaits the people but chose not to let the cat out of the bag.

Adinuba said, ” By November, we are going to give the whole world a surprise. We are going to launch an Airport, the Anambra way of doing things, not just an International Airport, but global standard.”

They spent a lot of money on Agulu Lake Hotel. They should recover their investment from the ICC when it's ready. Instead, ANSG should develop the Ikenga Mall nearby which would complement the ICC. People would go from the conference center to the mall to buy food, go shopping, etc. Plus Ikenga Mall is close to the university with its 30,000 population and government house.

They should not dump money in Ikenga as they did in Onitsha Mall with expensive HVAC and steel but build it the way the Indians built Spar Mall in Enugu. Outlet style low cost. Get an anchor tenant like Shoprite and then build smaller shops around it.

Omenugha Reveals Secret of Anambra’s High Educational Performance

By James Eze

The Anambra State Commissioner for Basic Education, Prof Kate Omenugha has finally revealed the secret behind the recent streak of excellence recorded by the state in both international and national academic contests.

Speaking on Tuesday at the “Meet the Media” forum organized by Governor Willie Obiano’s team in Awka, Prof Omenugha attributed the dazzling performance of Anambra school children to the successful transfer of Anambra’s Shared Values to them. Anambra has 10 Shared Values which are recited by school children every morning.

Anambra’s Ten Shared Values include; to make a positive impact on everyone I meet and everywhere I go, to be a solution provider and not a part of the problem to be solved, to be a role model worthy of emulation, to be my best in all I do, particularly the things I am naturally good at, to do the right thing at all times regardless of who is doing the wrong thing, to value time and make the best use of it, to care and show respect through my words and actions, to consciously build a great legacy starting now, today and every day, to live a life of integrity and honour and to make my family, my state, my nation and my God proud.

“We have made them to believe in themselves and who they are,” explained Prof Omenugha. “How did we do that? In the first retreat that Governor Obiano had in 2014 with his political appointees and EXCO members, we developed what we call Ten-shared values. I am always proud to talk about our 10 Shared Values because that is something that was done by this administration to begin to build the confidence of our school children. To begin to change their psyche about who they are and what they can do. To begin to make them believe in their capacities and capabilities.”

Prof Omenugha explained that the dazzling performance of Anambra school children in national and international academic, scientific and technological contests is a clear indication that the children had deeply assimilated the state’s Ten-Shared Values.

Said she: “That’s the key. That’s what I am saying, because we have driven it in. Education is about ideology. It is what you believe in that you profess and what you profess, that you do. We have our mantra – We say, ‘Nothing is impossible. I do not accept Failure. Yes, we can!’ Ask any Anambra child; he will tell you “I do not accept failure. Nothing is impossible. Yes, I can.” That’s our mantra. And what we do is to get it into the head of every Anambra child that nothing, absolutely is impossible! The can-do spirit. And therefore each time we tell them to go for laurels, we tell them you have to be the best you are, particularly in things you are naturally good at. You have to value time and make the best use of it, to consciously build a great legacy, starting now, today and every day. To live a life of integrity and honour, and to make my family, my state, my nation and my God proud, so help me God. It has worked like magic.”

Throwing more light on the psychological boost that was given to the legendary Regina Pacis girls that won Gold at the World Technovation Challenge San Farancisco in 2018, Prof Omenugha recalled that the actual journey to the Gold Medal began with a visit to Governor Obiano during a full session of the Anambra Executive Council in Awka.

“When the Technovation girls were going to America for the competition, I brought them to the EXCO Chamber to see the governor”, Omenugha recalled. “The governor told them, Ndi ocha enwero isi n’abo (the white people do not have two heads on their shoulders). You can win. You go there and bring the laurel and see what I can do. And they went and brought the laurel.”

Professor Omenugha also revealed that contrary to the speculation that the Golden Girls had been abandoned, the state government had set up a trust fund for their education covering SS2 to the university.

“We have in trust for them with the Catholic Archdiocese of Onitsha, their school fees up to the university level. Six years in the university. From SS2 and SS3 to the university. Six years of university. We have all the money put in trust for them with the Catholic Archdiocese of Onitsha. They are our stars. We are following up on them. They are our role models,” she further explained.

It would be recalled that since the inception of the Obiano administration, Anambra State has been a consistent super performer in all external examinations and other academic contests for students and teachers.

Following closely on the heels of the Gold Medal won by the Regina Pacis girls at the World Technovation Challenge, four boys from St John’s Science and Technical College, Alor in Idemili South Local Government Area of the state had also won Bronze medal at the International Festival of Engineering, Science and Technology that took place in Tunisia in March 2019.

There are two different things here. There is money invested in bonds worth over 100 bilion that has not being touched and projects unfinished which Obi paid up front for the completion.

Anambra state need total physical and urban renewal. I was in Anambra for a week, going between onitsha and awka, throughout my stay, I observed that the roads built by the state government in awka doesn't conform with acceptable quality which also includes the bridge. It is as if our governor lacks taste. In fact awka is just an advance village. How can a state like Anambra can't develop to become a city especially awka? We have changed about 4 governors since the Advent of democracy, none of the governors took it upon himself to redesign the capital to fit into contemporary time.
Another thing is the issue of market springing up here and there without control. It is of a truth that we are known for trading, but we need to follow city master plan. How can you cite building material market along a major road? Who approved such a plan? I saw another market ikemba international market about being built along enugu onitsha expressway, and I asked why that place? Why is the govt not doing something about onitsha market where almost all roads leading to the market are all dilapidated. Is the govt against road dualisation ? Why all this tiny single lane road all built by the govt? Who are our representatives at federal level that can't lobby for the road construction from onitsha to enugu to have side walks and covered drainage since it would go through the state capital just like it is being done in Lagos ibadan expressway.

Another point to note is the issue of land in awka. The price of land is too expensive and it is stiffling investment. We need to open up a bit to allow others have easy access to our lands in Anambra state. No country anywhere in the world built their city by themselves without migrant helping out.

The problem of markets in Anambra is planning. We are not in 1970 but 2020. State and local government need to go beyond this primitive concrete unpainted rows of concrete block with bad roof, little parking, no water supply, no conveniences to planning proper markets.

Markets should have set capacity and not go beyond it. Not where they keep adding buildings to the same small space until there is no space to move and it starts taking over the road.

Look at all Mall designs in Nigeria. They have a set amount of space that is used. They do not greedily start building more and more buildings like markets and packing more and more people in one small space like rats.

Anambra State International Conference Centre To Be Ready For Use By The End Of 2020.

Anambra state government says it will complete the state's International Conference Centre by the end of this year.

The state Deputy Governor, Dr Nkem Okeke disclosed this shortly after inspecting fifteen containers of steel roof materials that arrived the project's site today being the 27th of July, 2020.

The ten thousand capacity gallery centre, with enough packing and recreational spaces is one of the ongoing legacy projects of the Governor Willie Obiano led administration in the state.

During the inspection exercise, it was observed that it is only roofing and interior works that are still remaining in the project, as the completed walls of the edifice have been already plastered.

Deputy Governor Okeke explained that with the presence of the conference centre in the state, Anambra will become the centre for tourism in Nigeria and the economy of the state will be increased on daily bases.

The work is really massive, hope they meet up with the timeline
