Jesus did not mean his physical body but the spiritual Temple. Before his coming, the Temple in Jerusalem is the only place where people can render sacred service to God, whoever doesn't believe in the worship done in that Temple is not a worshiper of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob! John 4:20-22
So Jesus is the spiritual Temple that the worship rendered in his name supercedes the worship done anywhere else including the Jerusalem Temple. But that covenant must wait until Jesus dies, that's why the curtain between the holy and most holy was ripped apart from top to bottom the moment Jesus gave up.
So between those three consecutive days, there was nothing like pure worship on planet earth until the third day Jesus was resurrected.
That's when the building of the body of the Christ began, and that's the spiritual Temple which supercedes the former physical Temple!

So Jesus mean the former physical temple will be demolished, though that happened spiritually at Jesus' death but it was 66ce when Jerusalem was destroyed with it's Temple that many Jews were disappointed to know that God is no more interested in their man-made Temple. But the Christians who knew that the New Temple is the Church of Christ that quickly moved out of Jerusalem when the unbelieving Jews were thinking of fighting for their Temple assuming God was still with them!
