BBN Can Be Okay Only If........ by Missionaire: 4:09pm On Jul 31, 2020 |
So I have been seeing all the rants about BBN from (hypocritical) Nigerians and the church. I am a Christian and while I do not like BBN and many other shows that promote indecency, I believe that one cannot win an argument against another person by simply shouting and trying to shut the other person up (by intimidation). I believe that arguments can be won when individuals put forth superior arguments backed with facts. The church should focus on setting up projects to counter the projects of the devil and his agents. Shouting alone will do nothing. Now here is my argument: One of the problems of we Africans and Nigerians is that we like putting the cart before the horse. I'll explain but first let me give this illustration: There were two men named John and Peter who were homeless and wanted to build a house in preparation for the rainy season. One day, John met Peter relaxing and sipping coconut juice and he happily joined him. Now the rainy season was very nearby and Peter had built and already roofed his house but John was yet to finish his not to talk of roofing it. John was enjoying with Peter instead of working first and enjoy later. John was putting the cart before the horse. We Nigerians like copying foreign leisure activities while leaving the foreign working activities. The western world has built their nations to a level where it is almost on autopilot and are now promoting leisure activities more. They worked hard and also balanced their work with play. We on the other hand are like John. We are copying the leisure activities and not balancing it with work that will make our nation work. Instead of Nigeria and Nigerians to focus on promoting STEM education, research and developments, we are busy playing with our time and lives. We want to be like the West in enjoyment but not like them in working. We want the prize but don't want to pay the price. Like John, we are putting the cart before the horse and the rainy season is fast approaching. We should play, but we should work harder than we play. Both the private and public sectors must joined hand to promote people and things that will move our nation forward. As Jesus Christ would say, "This you ought to do also and not leave the others undone". Lalalasticala 4 Likes |

We just Love to DECIEVE ourselves.... There is no Modification, Explanation or Analysis that can make Evil, Abomination and Iniquity look good or become good.. Whether it's in Europe, Africa, America or even in Mars, Evil , Abomination, Sodomy is Evil. That Show is Evil! It's wickedness! It's an Invitation to GOD'S Wrath ! It's an act of Daring our CREATOR. We keep Comparing ourselves to USA and all dt! Yet Many of them Rushing in their droves down Here.. Let's stop Decieving ourselves! Nations have their peculiarities. But one Common ground we All as Humans know is that we Have a Creator called GOD. We all, all over the World are his Creatures. We all know what Evil is. We know if Whatcwe do is Godly or Not! You don't need to go to Church or carry Church on your Head Befor you know what Evil is. We have Examples before us to learn From, yet we decide to do what Destroyed them.. Let's Keep Decieving ourselves! There is No more Time! We will Meet with BABA He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still. And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. 3 Likes 2 Shares |

Even my dead body would reject watching that tv show. Bbnaija has absolutely no value to offer anyone. It's a waste of time and resourses. Imagine the efforts our youths put into it (soft porn and clout chasers), if only they could invest half as much into other innovative projects. Even that 'mummy calm down' vidoes that's trending and all the useless online challanges. What's it with Nigerians and appluding mediocrity? I agree with Buhari. Nigerians are mentally lazy. Most prefer to hustle and grind then go home to constitute a nuisance. Typical slave mentality. "The white man does all the dirty work acquiring knowledge and using it to better his society." While "We dabble in fraud and corruption and traffic our girls to Italy to service foreign men." No one should quote me 1 Like |

I don't understand what you're trying to say. There are two things I did in my post. Firstly, I explained how the church can take a better approach to dealing with programmes and issues like this. Shouting alone will not bring results, it will even make more people to defy the church because they are no superior arguments or programmes to convince them. Secondly, I explained how Nigeria and Nigerians are wasting time and other precious resources on frivolities instead of working to develop the nation. 1 Like |

Missionaire:The church has no business in this. What about atheists? How does an organization they don't believe in convince them to turn away or place their future over frivolities? Don't you think the government ought to be in charge rather? |
Re: BBN Can Be Okay Only If........ by Missionaire: 4:44pm On Jul 31, 2020 |
Dew04: Thank you for your question. That is where the second part come in. If you noticed in my post, I mentioned Nigeria and Nigerians. We are all stakeholders. The church has a business in this because the church is a part of the society and thereby a stakeholder. Same with the Mosque. Also the reason I talked about the church first is because the church has been giving through loudest outcry. |

how funny that someone who copies and worships a WESTERN religion, will now look down on people who do exactly the same. i guess in your mind, we should get rid of BBN but keep Christianity, abi?!?!?!?! Nigeria has always copied the west, and will always do... STOP BEING A HYPOCRITE, TAKING FROM THE WEST ONLY WHAT FITS YOUR SELFISH AGENDA!!!!! 1 Like |

MrBrownJay1:no one is asking that they scrap BBnaija. But that the Government also endorses programmes that would benefit Nigerians as well. Governors and senators and other leaders celebrate the show while we have to travel out of the country to further our education in certain courses; aeuronutic engineering, neurosurgery, nuclear physics, etc. Every pillar of this country crumbles from health care to politics to eduction. If our youths could focus on their future (electing decent leaders) as the do while voting for a winner, Nigeria would be a whole lot more better. |
Re: BBN Can Be Okay Only If........ by Nobody: 4:58pm On Jul 31, 2020 |
Missionaire:well, I don't really see how religion comes in. Or why it should. I think change begins with each of us as individuals. It's alright to watch a tv programme but even better to invest that time and effort in making a headway. It's left to people to place what's more important over others in their lives. And the government to help those who have. At the end of the day, there's no hope for this country. 1 Like |

Dew04: come on, now you are talking like a crazed man! BBN has absolutely NOTHING to do with the gov/senators etc...this is a garbage TV reality show that anyone has the right to watch or not (to each their own)... the fact that you would now want to use that show as a reason for the gov/senators etc to endorse school programs is a joke... because BBN is irrelevant to what the gov/senator etc should do for the masses. Every pillar of this country crumbles from health care to politics to eduction. If our youths could focus on their future (electing decent leaders) as the do while voting for a winner, Nigeria would be a whole lot more better. ... and how is this the gov/senators fault?! you should blame the donkeys who are more interested in watching these garbage shows instead of doing whats RIGHT! Nigerians are a bunch of DONKEYS (yes i said that!!!!)... when some pastor "supposedly" rapes a yeyebrity, they are quick to go to the streets and riot....when South Africans are killing Nigerians in SA, they are quick to go to the streets and riot....but when their own thieving leaders are useless and filling their own pockets with enough money to fix the country in a day, they keep quiet. Nigerians get the leaders they deserve! |

MrBrownJay1: I didn't say we shouldn't copy the west. I said that we should not only copy their leisure activities but also their work activities. They didn't get to where they are by leisure alone but by a combination or more work and less play. Why can't we promote platforms that would give birth to developments, breakthroughs in medicine and science and quality education? |
Re: BBN Can Be Okay Only If........ by Missionaire: 5:08pm On Jul 31, 2020 |
MrBrownJay1: Sir, I am not saying we should scrape BBN away per se. What I am saying is that the federal government and other stakeholders should also sponsor platforms that would promote research, development, breakthroughs and celebrate intellectuals. This would give the citizens opportunities to exercise their right to choose whatever they want to watch or participate in. |
Re: BBN Can Be Okay Only If........ by Nobody: 5:11pm On Jul 31, 2020 |
Missionaire:MrJayBrown1, read this post to comprehend and not argue. I wasn't using BBNaija to give reasons why the government should endorse innovative programmes. I'm merely comparing the effort our youths and leaders put into it. A minister was ready to scrap WAEC exams because of covid19 that more or less here to stay. I'm complaining at the lack of excitement and determination to create headways in more important things. Who gives a Bleep about BBnaija. The op's thread centers on it, that's why I mentioned the show. If it didn't exist, my views remain the same. 1 Like |

Missionaire: educate yourself about the world so i dont have to do it for you... the west is so more advanced because of the 300years of SLAVERY (aka free labor) that they've profited from. the west is more advanced because of COLONIZATION and whats left of it even today. the west is more advanced because of the constant THEFT of our natural resources, while paying us back peanuts. the west is more advanced because of their SUPPORT for bastard African leaders in power who dance to their tunes, and the removal of leaders who are against the west corrupt ways. what happened to the American Indians? what happened to the indigenous people in latin America/Australia etc? comparing Africa with the west is like comparing a murdering rapist with the dead woman he just sexually abused and murdered...duh! |
Re: BBN Can Be Okay Only If........ by MrBrownJay1(m): 5:19pm On Jul 31, 2020 |
Dew04: these leaders have the right to enjoy their leisure time, the way they see fit... if they want to watch BBN, let them do so... BBN is the worst of the problem here and irrelevant to the issue at hand. whats next? if a minister watches football and cheers for his team, you will now blame him for lack of constant electricity?! you should DEMAND for a better gov whether there is BBN or not....you should DEMAND for the gov to do right by you, regardless of what he does in his/her leisure time |
Re: BBN Can Be Okay Only If........ by Missionaire: 5:24pm On Jul 31, 2020 |
Dew04: The religious institutions believe it is a sin and people shouldn't watch it. What I'm saying is that since the religious institutions have this belief, they should instead of just shouting promote platforms and opportunities that would engage people that would have developed interests in the programme because of no (better) alternatives and boredom. |
Re: BBN Can Be Okay Only If........ by MrBrownJay1(m): 5:27pm On Jul 31, 2020 |
Missionaire: - the federal gov DOES NOT sponsor BBN... - BBN stakeholders invest in such show to MAKE MONEY.. and they are very successful at it. - claiming that Nigerian citizens do not have opportunities to choose/participate/focus in anything else than BBN, is the joke of the day. if anyone does NOT like BBN, they can just change the channel OR better yet, turn off their TV and do something better with their lives. |
Re: BBN Can Be Okay Only If........ by Missionaire: 5:28pm On Jul 31, 2020 |
MrBrownJay1: You have a valid point concerning the people we vote in. He also has a valid point. This issue stems from bad governance also which is a topic on its own. This post was meant to help us get our priorities right. Thank you. |
Re: BBN Can Be Okay Only If........ by Missionaire: 5:30pm On Jul 31, 2020 |
MrBrownJay1: Yes.. Do something better with their lives. The federal government is supposed to be at the forefront of creating, sponsoring and promoting platforms that would help the nation develop further in science, technology and medicine especially. 1 Like |

Missionaire: you are absolutely RIGHT... and when they dont, you riot and get rid of these useless leaders (like many other African countries have done). this issue is beyond BBN/religion or any other nonsense out there. |
Re: BBN Can Be Okay Only If........ by Nobody: 5:38pm On Jul 31, 2020 |
MrBrownJay1:again, you're not getting the point. Personally, I hate the show. Others might not. And that's their choice (which they're entitled to, no matter how senseless it is to me). Nigeria is the product of a failed government. How many youths do you think will idle around with BBnaija if the government brings forward empowerment programmes for the youths? Or sets up infrastructures to train them in various crafts? Who would have the time to come up with senseless challanges; who smokes weed the most or twerks best or can remove a bottle cap with their boobs. If the government had played it's part, senseless activities like this wouldn't be as important as they are. Again, my quarrel isn't with BBnaija. The rest lies with the average Nigerian. It's their responsibility to place more important things over BBNaija. 1 Like |
Re: BBN Can Be Okay Only If........ by Missionaire: 5:40pm On Jul 31, 2020 |
MrBrownJay1: Oga. .. Where is the comparison? I said just as we copy the leisure activities of the west, we can also copy the productive way they do things. Assuming what you say is very true about how the west got to where they are today, how have they been able to sustain it? Did they steal innovations and inventions from Africa? You forget that within Africa, we had many tribes doing the same things to their fellow blacks that you accused the west of doing to Africa. Africans stole from Africans and are still doing same today. Why haven't we gotten better? Lastly, since you don't want me to compare Africa with the West, what would you compare Africa to? More importantly, how do you think Africa can be better since it seems my suggestion that we not just copy how the West play but also how they work irks you. |
Re: BBN Can Be Okay Only If........ by Missionaire: 5:42pm On Jul 31, 2020 |
Dew04: Thank you for understanding. The more productive programmes we have, the more bright minds can be engaged in positive and productive activities . |
Re: BBN Can Be Okay Only If........ by Nobody: 5:51pm On Jul 31, 2020 |
MrBrownJay1:Missionaire's point: sweets can only be good when balanced. Your point: don't be angry with sweets or other sugary foods. No one is, okay? But if Nigerians learn to balance their meals with fruits and veggies, they wouldn't have to visit a dentist every month. The government has a role to play in engaging young minds. A 300lv student from Ibadan was killed while working with heavy machinary in a soap production company. It would be easy to blame the boy but why should he be working there in the first place? Rather than recieving online lectures from his school? Our leaders can watch as many shows as they like, zee world, telanovelas, etc. But should also set up programmes for those who value self_improvement. |
Re: BBN Can Be Okay Only If........ by Missionaire: 5:52pm On Jul 31, 2020 |
MrBrownJay1: Of course we should get them out. Just as we cannot afford to employ people based on sentiments but competence to manage our businesses or work for us, we must stop employing leaders based on affiliations and sentiments to work for us and be paid fat salaries just to be incompetent, clueless and thorns in our fleshes . As part of our national development initiatives, our leaders must begin to give platforms and topmost priorities to people who have the technical and intellectual skills to move our nation forward. Tribalism and Nepotism may look glamorous now but in the long run it becomes a clog in the wheel of national progress and development. While we may be divided along party, religious and tribal lines, We must never allow good governance become a casualty of our sentiments and affiliations. While we may be able to afford to not be involved in (national) politics, it is expensive and unaffordable to not be involved in the good governance of our nation and communities. |
Re: BBN Can Be Okay Only If........ by Missionaire: 5:56pm On Jul 31, 2020 |
Dew04: Look at how the West supports entrepreneurship and their entrepreneurs. They have good ecosystems and there are many numerous platforms for their bright minds to engage in and be more productive. Of course they have their leisure programmes but they also know that that alone will not make them better. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. All plays and no work makes Jack a very very dull and backward boy.. A dundy. |

Missionaire: how can you invest in bigger better machines if you dont have the financial means to do so. without MANPOWER and FINANCES, you cannot advance. these western countries were INDUSTRIALIZING thanks to the huge profit made from A) the robbing of land from the American Indian and B) using slaves to work for free on these same stolen lands, let alone stealing (from Africa) the raw material needed by these same people to build their empires.... our ancestors were busy trying to rebuild their community deprived of the fit and healthy men. so while our people were slaving away for free to build these empires, these western countries had the leisure/finances to focus on research and inventions to better their industries and building banks to control the world? something that Nigeria doesnt have the leisure/financial means to do. how can you compare Africa with the west when today in 2020 there still isnt constant electricity in Nigeria? how can you build an empire when you lack the BASIC NECESSITY?!?!?! abeg compare things that are comparable, and not banana with jumbo jet! now today, that these people are controlling the world, they make sure AFRICA remains pooor, and that these westerners continue profiting from its natural resources! You forget that within Africa, we had many tribes doing the same things to their fellow blacks that you accused the west of doing to Africa. Africans stole other Africans to use them as househelp etc, not to BUILD EMPIRES... Lastly, since you don't want me to compare Africa with the West, what would you compare Africa to? More importantly, how do you think Africa can be better since it seems my suggestion that we not just copy how the West play but also how they work irks you. you can only compare Africa with Africa... compare Nigeria with Congo OR Sudan with Algeria... but comparing Nigeria with any country outside of Africa is a waste of time. these are NOT the same countries and will never be. |
Re: BBN Can Be Okay Only If........ by Missionaire: 6:14pm On Jul 31, 2020 |
MrBrownJay1: Africans used other Africans as slaves to build their houses, palaces, road networks and for trading caravans so what are you saying? Africans build their empires using other Africans as slaves. You claim we don't have money. The ones out African leaders are looting are what? Sand paper? What does it take to build good transportation systems, provide electricity and quality health and education which would attract developments? Maybe I should compare the the continent if Africa with the nation of Singapore . |
Re: BBN Can Be Okay Only If........ by obaaderemi: 6:20pm On Jul 31, 2020 |
Dew04:I will quote you because you made a lot of sense. How sensible people could sit down and watch some of the shows on TV today beats my imagination. And you see them mentioning the names of the show participants and discussing them. Some even go to the extent of watching such nonsense with their little children. So if you think the situation is bad today, wait for tomorrow when the kids of today grow up. |
Re: BBN Can Be Okay Only If........ by obaaderemi: 6:28pm On Jul 31, 2020 |
Missionaire:Yes, why can't one of our mega churches organize a science and maths quiz show that would shake the nation and bring forth the best in our youths coupled with scholarship and foreign travels? Why can't they set up venture capital funds to drive science, technology and entrepreneurship? |
Re: BBN Can Be Okay Only If........ by MrBrownJay1(m): 6:34pm On Jul 31, 2020 |
Missionaire: exactly!!! westerners were building industrialized EMPIRES while Africans were building mud huts, dirt roads and buying camels. stop comparing banana with jumbo jets! You claim we don't have money. The ones out African leaders are looting are what? Sand paper? this is PEANUTS compare to what these industrialized nations are making thanks to the 300years free start they have over us... who are you trying to fool here?! What does it take to build good transportation systems, provide electricity and quality health and education which would attract developments? TAXES, TAXES and MORE TAXES in the west people have been paying taxes (aka IRS) since forever...thus they have the FINANCIAL MEANS to build road, create jobs and invest in industries, that the majority of African countries cant. the US makes $3.5 trillions per year in taxes...enough to spend it on roads, innovations research etc Maybe I should compare the the continent if Africa with the nation of Singapore. which Singapore are you talking about?! the one who's had constant electricity for DECADES? that Singapore?! which Singapore? the financial hub perfectly located in Asia? that singapore? you want to compare country of 5M people with Africa's largest citizen?! do i need to speak in CHINESE for you to understand what i am saying... you can ONLY compare Africa with Africa!!!!! |
