MrOkenwa:
Good day, I told the person handling my building to introduce pillars at the 4 corners of the suck away but he said it’s not necessary. He did 6 pillars for the septic.
Is this not going to pose any risk later on? Especially when car is parked on it?

Its totally fine. He can make tiny beams around the edges when casting the slab

Hello everyone, I need clarifications on these construction question for a 3 storey commercial building
1. Between 12 and 16mm rods, which is used in running the beams for the second slab
2. Can 12mm rod be used in running the pillars of the second and third floor?
Thank you

Bros, 3-storey building and you're asking these questions from us who do not know the soil, or even the span of the building O wrong nau.

This is wrong thing to do. THE RIGHT thing however, is to pay for a comprehensive structural drawing (with calculation sheets) and follow the specifications in the drawing!!!!

Please consider the lives of people who will be on that commercial building!!!

A weight of 12mm rebar of 12m is equal 10,656
While 16mm is 18.948

This does not prove your point

You saw steel formation i posted? it shows is possible the only reason why not advisable is that you spend more.
1st if you hv 10 Collums with 16mmx4each, to use 12mmx8each you will need 14 collums,
2nd Volume of concrete will slightly reduce with 12mm rebars you gain it back when increase number of Collums.
3rd Aggregate mixture formulae.
4th Stirrup spine very important

its the financial implications that is the difference not the calculations.

with floor of 2 suspended floor
ground floor Collums is 16mmx6 for Collums
1st floor Collums is 16mmx4
2nd floor Collums is 12mm, 16mm can be use for Collums.

What is most important is mixture of aggregate, if your mortar is poor the structure will fail, If you use 24mm, if your mixture is poor the structure will fail. length, weight are most consider in structural design. its calculation not human science.

1. If your parapet is done well, you can leave it bare and exposed for years!!! Parapet contains structural members and therefore shouldn't expire. Just make sure to remove the formwork after proper setting and curing.

2. 10 days is not enough. It's advisable to put a minimum 7-day interval between parapet casting and woodwork.

You have concluded he's using CONCRETE CAST, don't forget its a general question that needs more general answers.... what if he goes for precast or polysterene - can he also leave it that long ?

Why not, everything is possible so far God wants and not evil agenda i.e good things. You can get what you want with what you have, if some want to build house, they may order for materials from 2,3 or more states far from site, while some else will find it at nearest. It is possible to build your house within your good feasibility studying.

At the highlighted text, you're talking Bullshit.

How many teachers do we have in Nigeria?
How many pastors do we have in Nigeria?
On these thread alone, you'll have more than 50 People that are professionals in the built environment or into construction.

We have lawyers, Doctors, Architect, Market men and women, Tailors, food vendors, Agriculturists etc many of who are managing to survive and not claiming schools or religious centres should be opened
Banks are open, people selling tiles, mattress, planks, Cements, Sand, Granite, Blocks, auto part dealers, Mechanics, electrician, plumbers, structural engineer, land surveyor, QS are doing their respective businesses in peace. So where did you get your fact that majority are into education in Nigeria?.

In UK, USA, Italy and many more countries, religious centres and schools are still closed. Why are you making it a Nigerian issue?
Most schools have gone online, which is why Trump wanted to deport students, since there's no physical school activities. Who told you it's only in Nigeria that schools are closed?

2.5m human beings visit Mecca/Medina for Hajj, but this year and precisely today, about 1000 people were allowed for Hajj. Saudi Arabia makes billions of $ from Tourism, but they had to forget money and focus on human health

Well agitated my felow well innovated. Looking around the vicinity you live, you can see so many worship centres be it church or mosque and don't think that only the head there is a pastor or Alfa, but also included who can old services. Some of so called professionals or artisans now getting there connection for work through worship or learning centres. Not only in Nigeria, if am understood well, but what am explaining is that we need to get things going by managing all sectors together, as lockdown relaxed following the directives and measures lay down. Or if the covid 19 continued spread for long, religious and studies should not be, GOD FORBID. Before a graduate get a better job, he/she may managing teaching. Survey around, thousands of youth managing before getting better things to do. LET US AGITATE FOR MANAGING OR MERGING THINGS AND GET GOING.

Thanks for your response, I already dig the soakaway, the problem is the soakaway is not soaking anything, infact is the one bringing water from the ground.[/quote]

In waterlogged sites, it is often found that the water table is exceptionally high
(ie, near the surface). In cases such as this, a soakaway is just not going to
work: think about it - to where will all the additional water you're planning to
send to the soakway drain? There is nowhere for it to go. The 'soakaway' in this
situation is not a soakaway at all; it's a hole full of water, otherwise known as a
sump.

One of the first things to consider when choosing a site for a soakaway is the
water table (aka saturation line). This is defined as upper level of the
groundwater that is naturally held within the soil, sub-soil strata.

However, there are some sites where the water table is high, because there is a
layer of impermeable clay overlying a deeper strata that might be porous. In
such cases, digging through the clay cap and into the porous sub-strata will
render a soakaway feasible, assuming that the depth to the porous strata is not
prohibitive.

Thanks guys!
If you were based in Owerri, I would undoubtedly have had dealings with you. Owerri to my village is just 30 minutes and would save lots of expenses on logistics, transportation, etc. Hence my reason for dealing with my contacts in Owerri.
I have decided to settle for the concrete cast parapet and stone coated roofing between an interval of 4 to 6 months. Carpentry works alone has been agreed for 120k for the parapet (excluding materials). I hope to apply and re-schedule my annual leave again as soon the flight ban is lifted. Once again, thanks guys!!!
