One single act of bravery from this man should have given his predecessor the boldness to become Giants but Ojukwu bravery made igbos who they are today..If after pogrom we chickened out and took the Awolowo way, we would still be bitter about our loss in the war. Only Yoroubas talk about igbos loosing 3m in the war cos that was the last feat of their hero Awolowo but that was Our triumph..igbo land beat many likes Nigerian states that never witness the war . Their people boldness can be seen in both business in academics..

Psychologically igbos won the war..

That is what they fail to understand. Ojukwu knew the odds were stacked against him. However, doing nothing after tens of thousands of our people were massacred in the North in the most heinous manner would have forever made us total slaves in Nigeria. It would have emboldened the North to see the South as conquered territory that will stomach whatever shit they shove down our throats.

Ojukwu showed them that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. That is how it is naturally, otherwise others will subdue you forever.

Yorubas suffered humiliations too considering that Awo was jailed severally for no just reason. Ogundipe was chased away when he was supposed to take over as military head of state. The Western regional governor was killed yet in all these, they never challenged the oppressors.

Even today, the only tribe the Fulanis are wary of is the Igbos, and that is why they're always rallying others against us.

Lol, so committing suicide is now a brave act? Only in afonjaland. How would Ojukwu killing himself or surrendering to Nigeria have helped him or Igbos? Do you even know the psychological blow that would have had on Igbos if Ojukwu was captured or if he had killed himself?

Between Awo that slavishly fought for the North yet was humiliated into committing suicide and Ojukwu that went on exile and later returned and died at old age, and was given a state burial?

Your entire generations past, present and future COMBINED can't measure up to Awolowo's excreta.

That's the bitter truth.

If he as a civilian didn't run away dealt with your coward general to the extent he left 3 million foolish people to be suyalized, how can Awo be the coward ?

I really feel for someone this brainless. Very pathetic.

proeast:
Awolowo was a very hopeless and selfish man. He has no reason to complain because he knew from day one that Nigeria has no future and would forever be a disaster, at least his statements about Nigeria being worthless were documented but what did he do when others like Ojukwu realized same and made the bold move to break up the useless contraption? The same Awolowo started giving all manner of excuses on why he couldn't join forces to liberate his people and give them a bright future.

The coward claimed that Northern soldiers were stationed in Lagos and Ibadan thus there is nothing he could do. He even added that if East is allowed to leave Nigeria that they will also be allowed to leave. You see how evil his thought process is? He lacked the guts to call for break-up yet he was willing to rain on the parade of those who risked everything to challenge the status quo against all odds.

Awolowo is a terrible coward and opportunist who contributed a lot albeit due to cowardice in entrenching Nigeria and all its failures and disastrous existence.

Considering his cult-like following in the West, if he had called on his people to fight for Oduduwa or at least not to support Nigeria in the war, it would have gone a long way destabilizing the Northern controlled government. However, he still turned around to join forces with the same people that have always humiliated him to fight against the East in order to entrench the same Nigeria he knew was a disaster and hopeless contraption.

Maybe, if Awolowo had some balls just like Ojukwu, no one would be in this current disaster and hopelessness we have found ourselves in Nigeria. I'm happy he died a shameful death, as a frustrated and sad man, and wasn't even buried with honors despite all he did to support the contraption out of cowardice.

The greatest leader that ever emerged out of Africa.

He saw the future indeed.

If only he had been allowed to rule this dysfunctional excuse of a country called Nigeria, we would be better off than most European countries.

While most European countries were yet to establish a television station, Baba had already established one in Ibadan, capital of the Western region of Nigeria.

The popular axiom that cowards die many times before their actual death holds true for Awo. After independence, he was always harrased by the same North and humiliated by being thrown into prison for no just reason. He never enjoyed peace despite all his support to those that earlier messed him up.

The same Ojukwu that fought the system and Northerners fearlessly still outlived him and when Ojukwu later died, he was buried like a national hero but Awo had to die like the coward he is by taking poison when he realized that the North was going to throw him into jail again, this time for life.

And the same Ojukwu that ran away fearlessly...

Your Papa Awolowo's letter came almost two decades late. He was crying over spilled milk. He was trying to shut the barn when the horse had already bolted away. Providence have him the chance to restructure Nigeria by supporting Ojukwu's "On Aburi We Stand" pre-Biafra stance or rejecting Gowon's Greek gift of political appointment as Vice-Chairman Federal Executive Council and boldly telling Gowon to fight Biafra alone if he insisted on violence to resolve the pre-Biafra crisis.

He spurned all these historic opportunities and chose to align with Arewa North for a fake One Nigeria where the North wanted to dominate and ultimately succeeded, and more importantly consigned Awolowo to historical irrelevance as The best President Nigeria never had

[/s]

Historical irrelevance you say?

Lol.

I know Igbos are pained whenever that blessed name is mentioned but ask your elders to tell you the truth about that man and you will all fall on your knees and worship his excreta.

You're not getting it. Awo had a cult-like following in the West during that period. His words alone would have galvanized his people into action. If he had told them to do everything to stand on their own, the story would have been different. But he failed to provide the needed leadership for his people at that critical time.

The difference between a Yoruba and a Igbo. A Yoruba man counts the cost before moving. A Igbo jumps into the well without first knowing how deep it is. It's only a Igbo that would blame a man that decided not to expose his people to senseless danger in a war he knew would be futile, while praising as being brave an idiot that threw his people to their death, and ran away before that death got to him by declaring a war that every single sane human would know from the beginning he could not win.

All these brainless rants just because a man protected his people from genocide?

All these worthless rants, just because your leader sacrificed 3 million of your forefathers as sacrifice to further his personal ambition.

All these rants, yet your people move to Awolowo's region (the region he worked hard to build) in massive droves just to eek out a living.

All these rants because you realise that if we gather all the past, present and future Igbo leaders together, mash their brains together, we won't be able to produce one-hundredth part of Awo's intelligence.

All these rants because you are now forced to abandon your homeland that your leaders failed to develop when Awo was developing his own region.

The great sage died while you were but an idea in the mind of God, yet you suffer from a fit of convulsion everytime you hear his name mentioned.

You should get a life.

Awolowo is the greatest leader that has come out of Africa yet.

We know him. We Revere him. Who are you again?

I always encounter people like you who press the like buttons to approve anti-Yoruba bigoted posts on NL and then start weeping tears on the posts that respond to the Ibo bigots in like manner.

You and all that's related to you are the psychotic and retarded ones ok?

The person I quoted justified the civil war while insulting Yoruba people. But you are blind and couldn't see it I guess.

So, yes, he should point out who his grandparents were in those pictures and let's see how we can justify a needless war together.

You are realy sick..if u cant see the message igbo preach from the war then your Generation will continually stay in the fear of the unknow ... Since 1972 till date the only tribe that would recite 3m igbos died in war is a yorouba man . And archives like that is kept by them. Ojukwu and igbos have moved on but the yoroubas are still living pre-1960 thinking of First igbo coup, what the Naira signifies, 3million dead casualties of the war and you think you are making progress.

Am 100% prevent sure Awolowo saw through his own errors and won't like his history tainted.

You are realy sick..if u cant see the message igbo preach from the war then your Generation will continually stay in the fear of the unknow ...

Nope, I'm quite verifiably not sick. The only lessons that the Ibos have learnt from the war is the message of Yoruba hatred that they teach to their children and preach to others who care to listen.

Since 1972 till date the only tribe that would recite 3m igbos died in war is a yorouba man .

Wrong again. The Yorubas can't care less. Check Nairaland, Facebook and Twitter Ng to see which tribe brings up the civil war all the time. Maybe Nnamdi Kanu is now a Yoruba man from Ogbomosho abi?

Besides, you are the ones shouting 3 million Igbos died in the war. The last time I challenged this figure on Radio Biafra Facebook page that the number was more in the range of 1million plus, all of them cursed me and my family together, while most of them said that the number was even up to 5million.

Who am I to argue? undecided

And archives like that is kept by them. Ojukwu and igbos have moved on but the yoroubas are still living pre-1960 thinking of First igbo coup, what the Naira signifies, 3million dead casualties of the war and you think you are making progress.

Like I said up there, the Yorubas are not concerned with how many people died in Igboland during the civil war. Ask the average Yoruba chap on the street and he might even ask you, which war?

You guys haven't been able to get the defeat of the war out of your system. That's for sure. That's why you keep referring to it every now and then and that's where your hatred of the late sage Awolowo comes from.

Are we making progress in Yorubaland? I'll leave you and your kinsmen who rush to Yorubaland like they be going to London to determine the answer to that.

Am 100% prevent sure Awolowo saw through his own errors and won't like his history tainted.

You are 100% sure Awo saw his mistakes but you aren't sure Ojukwu saw his own mistakes right?

Awolowo did not make any mistake whatsoever.

He protected his people from certain genocide if they had gone to war against the FG.

He cautioned Ojukwu the hot-headed airhead who led his people into a war they weren't prepared for, by counseling him to seek the path of dialogue.

He as finance minister during he war kept the economy of Nigeria afloat. The same economy that your people came back to join afterwards, that made Ojukwu come back from exile where he scampered to like a scared rat and the same economy that made Alex Ekwueme an Ibo person become Vice President to Shehu Shagari a few years later.

Awolowo despite resistance from the military council kept the allocations due to the eastern region throughout the war and gave it to them after the war so they could build their towns and villages again. Don't blame us if your leaders embezzled the money and built houses in Yorubaland.

It was Awolowo that helped to cut short the war by closing the food corridor that Ojukwu was using to import arms and ammunition thereby prolonging the war.

Like I said earlier, all Ibos should get on their knees and thank Awolowo. He saved their lives.

Maybe today, the Ibos tribe would have just been one of the very minority groups at the edge of Nigeria if not for Awolowo.

Stop vilifying him and be grateful to him.
