Very useless thread. You opened it to celebrate yourself that you can't speak your language so others will affirm it. Open your mouth and speak sense into your lives. Igbo isn't difficult. It is the same with all other languages. Just say you are in an environment where they speak adulterated Igbo. Go to commercial cities in the south east and see non indigenes that came in their adult hood speak Igbo without mixing it anything.Even my cousins abroad come home speaking it perfectly. And who told you Yoruba and Hausa movies don't combine English in there's? Sit down and watch their movies especially Yoruba and take notes. Proverbs is our oil, it drives our message home. Abeg take your L in peace. Dinta anaghi akocha Ihe n'ile ohuru n'ohia. 4 Likes 1 Share |

Op, since when did "what" become 'kedu"? What > gini As the "toners", which i believe is also word stress" Yoruba's too have them in words like Obe - knife Obe - soup Obe - meat Owo hand Owo money Ewa beans Ewa beauty Im sure other languages too share in thiw toners and it doesn't really make them really difficult if the learner is serious about it. Also life listening to tapes on pronunciation practices will help you learn faster understand better. Its just like diction learning. Same same. I wish to learn Hausa though but... Ive not really seen the need for it now thats why I'm a bit retracted from learning it. |

Balogunodua:Must they speak the dialectical Yorubas.. Atleast they speak the central yoruba which is mostly the one spoken by the original Yorubas of Oyo state, Oyo state Yoruba is the original yoruba and as long as people speak it they don't need to learn those other yoruba dialects 1 Like |

Olatara:I know lots of Igbos in lagos who speak these core yoruba dialects and even write them well.. Victor was born and bred in lagos and does business there.. So he has transversed the south west well.. It's even elderly yoruba who told me that.. "This one is no longer igbo" they said to me, but the amazing thing is Victor is also very good in igbo and also speaks his dialect.. He comes from ebonyi state. 3 Likes |

Don't forget the countless dialects. In Ebonyi State alone, there are almost a new dialect per local government with Ishielu LGA leading the pack with at least 10 different dialects. Thankfully, every Igbo man understand and speaks the Onitsha dialect which is closet to the generally spoken Igbo language. |

pquaver:I think it's the same thing with Igbo and Yoruba. There's always that fusion of English, you can attest to that in their movies..... Whenever you watch a Yoruba or Igbo movie they speak YORUGLISH or ENLIGBO through out. I don't know if they are forming posh or something. The only language I have heard native speakers speak without or little fusion of English for lengthy periods is Hausa. 1 Like |

Bahamas95: You should know that Hausa language has a lot of adaptions from other languages-- notably Arabic and even English languages. English language itself owes it's versatility to its overwhelming adaptations from Latin and French languages. I would dare say that more than half of the English words in use today does not originate from the native speakers. Igbo language, on the other hand, is very rigid. 1 Like |
