Q2 Q2 2020 GDP vs Q2 2019 GDP

Germany - 10.1% (minus 10.1%)
Austria -10.7% (minus 10.7%)

US GDP numbers: analyst are forecasting - 34.1% (minus 34.1%)

This looks like the developed economies are going to have a big bang! If you are there, brace for impact.

Unfortunately, summer is about to end after August and most countries that are dependent on tourism saw very few numbers of arrivals. Greece, Spain, France, Turkey, Malta, Australia, South Africa etc could be impacted harshly by slowdown in tourism.

We will see more as we enter into August.

Updates

2020 GDP vs Q2 2019

Germany - 10.1% (minus 10.1%)
Austria -10.7% (minus 10.7%)
USA - 32.9%
Spain - 18.5%
France - 13.8%
Italy - 12.4%
Portugal - 14.10
EU area. -12.1%
Belgium - 12.2%
Mexico - 17.2%
Singapore -12.6

China +3.2%

EU and the Americas (US & Mexico) are officially in recession.

Hmmm..... Developed economies seem to have underlying health conditions grin grin

If there is no recovery in consumption or/and economic activities between July 2020 till September 2020 (Q3) and October 2020 till December 2020 (Q4), then these economies are gradually walking into the worst Great Depression in human era.

WARNING: Why you should avoid investing long term in Nigeria’s stock market.

The part of the story in your link which reads : "The early signs that this was a bubble was when spare part traders abandoned their trade to get in on the gold rush" got me rolling on the floor.

Long terming in NSE is surest route back to one's village.

And what effect should we be expecting from this to our own economy as our economy is not isolated from the world

The world is a global village.
All the economies of the world are interconnected by trade. Even the FPI’s that are the major drivers of our NSE are from these countries.
When they’re faced with not just a recession but the possibility of a “Great Depression” then your guess is as good as mine.
Let me leave you with some food for thought.
The last Great Depression happened in the 1930’s and it lasted for a whole decade.

There is an unwritten rule that when the developed markets are in recession or depression, investors should spread out to emerging markets where their money will keep working. Money must continue to do work. Where there is uncertainty, investors tend to move into areas of certainty (economies that are not affected).

Those in developed markets are faced with the options of holding cash under a very painfully low yield of close to zero interest or investing in bonds with negative interest. Since more of their companies will be closing down or going into bankruptcies (this has actually started), performance in their stock market will be below par.

On NSE front, we are faced with painfully low yields in the fixed income space or wonderful dividends in good companies. Some may want to hold cash, but for how long? So try reading about recessionary investing and act accordingly.

We will be watching to see what happens.

Naturally those funds should be moving to Nigeria, but CBN capital controls is not helping matters.

FPIs can no longer move funds in and out of the country easily anymore.

Greeting everyone,

I just checked the chart for NAHCO and saw a spike to a high of 5.00 NGN on the 23rd of July.

Knowing that price can't trade more than 10% range each day, I wonder whether this truly happened.

Can anyone here kindly help verify if you've got a paid version of tradingview?

Thanks.

It was an error from the site.

On that day it showed all stocks as trading at N5 including Dangote Cement grin grin

This has left the chart distorted if you use ichimoku cloud.

Investors/ traders should learn to move on. I am sure when he sold for $600, he sold at a profit.

Just like someone who bought N1 million worth of Okomu at N5.00 per share in 2003 and sold for N2 million at N10.00 in 2005, now lamenting if he had held on and kept his bonuses, his N1 million would have grown to over N40 million in 2020 excluding the dividends earned.

We lose some, we gain some. The most important thing is that our gains should be more than our losses.

Pls house I need answer to this question. Is it a must that Bank Confirmation of signature for estate account must be up to 6 months before transmission of shares especially for Guinness and Nigerian Breweries?
This is frustrating and I need a way out.

Generally that is the usual practice an account must be six months or more old before confirmation of signature can be issue on it.
It's not because it's estate account.

Are you sure this position has not changed? A friend got confirmation after 2 months plus and Veritas took it.

Well it's a possibility but I know it has always be the stand on such transactions and processes involving e mandate and signature confirmation.

Please, house assist with this decision.
I have UACN and UCAP in my portfolio but I need to sell one this August for a need.
I am having difficulty deciding which to sell as UCAP gives me good dividend and UACN has underlying promise based on the coming unbundling which I don't want to miss out.
Please, I need your advice .
Ofcourse,I take responsibility of making my final decision.

Mcy did not see anything wrong from my layman's angle but let's wait for the boss' response and analysis on it.
From my research of the bank, I think it looks more attractive to buy @ current price. ETI is planning to commence dividend payment from 2021 and from some experts forecast (FA), the lowest fair price is put at N7.62.

However, technically, its recent pullback from May's high looks too dip! Maybe you want to see a bit of strength on the price first before buying, but a rejection at daily support at the current price might also be good to key into the stock.

I'll discuss this in my weekly YT video on NSE Outlook - watch out!!!
