Buhari is evil.... This is how Buhari's poor leadership sent Leventis and Kingsway packing in the 80s and now he has done it again ..Next to leave will be DSTV then finally MTN..Meaning PEP store will soon announce their leave

It is State Governor you should be blaming not Buhari. Nigerians have misplaced responsibilities on the president and I'm not referring to you.

Those who are blaming the FG are still the same ones who are upset that a South African business took businesses from Nigerians and began making loads of money here.

I would advice such people to rather sit back and consider how they would replace the vacuum ShopRite would create with their departure and stake a percentage from the money ShopRite was making all this while.

This is a huge opportunity for mini importers and grocery store owners/start ups

ShopRite should leave.

The Chinese or Indian will buy it and increase prices of products.

They would change the every low pricing strategy of Shoprite to premium pricing

They would also stock shoprite with expensive foreign brand or Indian and Chinese brands.

It would reduce customers but increase revenue.

Akuko

In a country where 80% of the population do not make up to $2 per day, increasing prices will only send ShopRite (or its later name) to its untimely death.

Notice that most Nigerians preferred to buy things in local markets until ShopRite came in and changed the game with their relatively affordable prices and good shopping experience.

Nigerians are veryyyyyyyy poor and the government has not done enough to create a much broader middle class that can patronize those retail chains in the event of price hikes

Same people making life unbearable for themselves.. No light, no food, no money..I shed tears for my people..

Another thing is competition, they never had it so bad in recent times.
I think the major issue is competition. We have so many within the street that sells for the same price.
Also, there are some stuffs I don't buy the idea of getting at these superstores, their prices are not friendly compared to the market. Not everyone that fancy going to ShopRite for Kobo discount on edibles.

They can go already. We now have enough Igbo brands that can effectively replace them. The likes of Next, Everyday, Market Square and several others that are available in major cities.

Although we appreciate them for creating the awareness cool

I like your guts.

smh.... ShopRite can't withstand competitions from Nigerian,India and Chinese counterparts..that's the reason...I used to use ShopRite until Naija supermarkets flooded my locality and weirdest part is that Naija megastores are far cheaper than ShopRite

Nigeria is such is dumb country. Imagine suspending withdrawal on Nigerian ATM cards abroad when many Nigerians are stuck abroad because of the COVID 19 pandemic. The Embassies are also shut. Ordinary 24 hours power seems impossible. Sowore should do his revolution fast abeg.

Even if he buys it he can't run it properly , it will be dead within two years and remember ShopRite will not allow them to use the name

When I've been in ShopRite, I've often wondered how they make money.

Their cost of doing business must be humongous, yet there simply aren't enough people buying their quality but expensive wares.

#TeamProudlyNigeria.

We can have all these and much more indigenously in our darling nation.

If Supersport follow suit,
an indigenous cable TV will stand at last after many caved in along the way.

We should be the GIANT of AFRICA that people know us as.

It should be Nigeria that should be having corporations like this in all African countries, not the other way round
Unfortunately, it is not so cos of the 'many' bad leaders that have ruled our nation since independence.

Gradually we will get there as a nation!

Very possible without corruption and nepotism.

This might be a Blessing in disguise, atleast our Nigerian brands like Next cash & carry, Ebeano etc can blossom!

Even though i don't really see a future in physical shopping centres
do you know how many job loss their leave will create , would those stores employ them rather they are coming to join the unemployment rate that's very high already I just feel for them.

Buharis poor leadership has affected the the buying powers of Nigeria and created currency valuation and for a company like ShopRite that's a death Knell for them when their consumers can't buy enough and they can't really increase prices to match the currency devaluation ...so in essence they have no choice to exit at this point and hope some mumu comes to buy their Nigerian asset and stock
