Here’s jara supermarket chain, it stores look better and cleaner than shoprite ones, and they are cheaper. They currently have three lcostjins two in Lagos and one in edo. They are planning on building another 20 in the next three years.
Far far more better than ShopRites. I don't even go to ShopRites to buy something. When supermarkets are many in the country. You guys should just allow those two useless bunches of lazy Bombastic Zulus to continue mocking themselves.

I read somewhere how the fellas were emasculated by the boers. Its our collective duty to 'understand' emasculated men like him. If you crossed paths with that dude on the streets he would fight you like a chic. I mean you'd end up more bruised by the public shame emanating from such a womanish fight than any blows he lands on you.

According to Shoprite ceo, shoprite is leaving Nigeria because it is not profiting well.
The reason is not profiting is because Nigerians prefer informal market such as buying on the street.
Truworth, Mr price and woolworth stated this reasons when they leave Nigeria.

The problem of Nigeria is that while other African countries are formalizing their business, it seems like Nigeria is doing nothing.

If Nigeria is not formalizing businesses so that it Could get more tax and build infrastructure , how will it compete with Kenya

Ask yourself why SPAR is not leaving Nigeria then you will find out ShopRite don't know how to do business.

Compete with Kenya? shocked grin

When Kenya can't compete with just Lagos state not to talk about a region. grin

Oooho! He should tell us why ShopRite is leaving Kenya.

I've followed the exit in both countries. The funny thing is the different reasons given for exiting either markets. In Kenya the reasons given are a difficult economic climate. In Nigeria though, the manager and analysts cite the informality of the market and incredulous bureaucracy. They almost saying, these niggas ain't evolved yet.

"Nigeria is a largely informal market and there are a lot of businesses that have gone there and thought it is a good opportunity to consolidate and introduce some formalisation because that has worked in SA, but that does not work in countries outside of SA."

These are the words of Lulama Qongqo, an investment analyst at Mergence Investment Managers who is of the view that South African companies fail in Nigeria because they do not understand the market and apply strategy that is not tailored to that market.

Pieter Engelbrecht the chief executive officer of Shoprite has taken a good decision to exit Nigeria and I think he may even exit a few other marginal operations in Africa. Nigeria has become a problem; the lines of communication are hard, and it is difficult to get goods into the country because of customs duties. The currency is volatile.

Vianello said the culture in Nigeria was different as "people still prefer to buy from street vendors. The most difficult problem they have is the lines of communication. They have a massive but skewed population compared to SA between lower-income and upper-income earners".

My take is that they didn't do proper market research in both cases. In Kenya they can't afford the luxury of blaming the market because French chain Carrefour is doing wonderfully well yet they entered the country at the same time as shoprite. But naija got to fix the informal part for Pete's sake. Its not coming out good at all for you guys.

Lol Naija is gradually ceasing the whole of Africa....our strategy is to lay hands on your money and in a decade or so you will succumb to you...we control your money,we control you.....Zambia is our new target just like Kenya...

Access Bank Zambia, a subsidiary of Nigeria’s Access Bank Plc, has reached a ‘definitive agreement’ with Cavmont Capital Holdings Zambia Plc (CCHZ) to acquire Cavmont Bank Ltd.

The tier-1 bank announced this latest development regarding the merger talk which has been ongoing for a while, in a statement that was signed by its Company Secretary (Sunday Ekwochi) and issued to the Nigerian Stock Exchange earlier today.

According to the statement by Access Bank, the deal is a highly complementary transaction that is expected to combine Access Bank Zambia’s wholesale and trade finance capabilities with Cavmont Bank’s retail and commercial banking operations.

The proposed transaction which, in the meantime is still subject to relevant shareholder and regulatory approvals, is also expected to better position Access Bank Zambia as one of the top 10 banks in the Southern African country.

Customers from the enlarged bank will benefit from greater security offered by what will be one of the most capitalized banks in Zambia with a more diversified product and service offering and a broader geographical footprint and infrastructure.

Access Bank on its notification stated, ‘’Subsequent to our announcement on July 8, 2020, the Board of Access Bank Plc announces today that its subsidiary, Access Bank (Zambia) Limited, has entered into a definitive agreement with Cavmont Capital Holdings Zambia Plc (CCHZ) regarding proposed acquisition of Cavmont Bank Limited, a subsidiary of CCHZ and subsequent merger of Cavmont Bank’s operations into Access Bank Zambia. The proposed transaction, which remains subject to relevant shareholder and regulatory approvals, will position the enlarged Access Bank Zambia as one of the top 10 banks in Zambia and create the momentum to advance its strategic objectives.’’

‘’Under the terms of the agreement, Access Bank Zambia will acquire the entire issued ordinary share capital, assets and liabilities of Cavmont Bank while Capricom Group Limited, the ultimate majority shareholder of CCHZ will invest at least ZMW300 million ($16.5 million) of preference shares into Access Bank Zambia. Capricorn will hold preference shares in the enlarged Access Bank Zambia for a period of five years, after which the preference shares will be acquired by Access Bank Plc.’’

The statement also notes that the enlarged bank will be well placed to participate in the long-term economic growth of Zambia and will be predicated on the country’s vast reserves of natural resources and fast growing young population.

The transaction is expected to be completed during the fourth quarter of 2020.

Carrefour retail chains in kenya..hats off to these guys they know their fvcing job!! Little wonder they are the second largest chainstore in the universe.

1,2,3,4 at The Hub Mall, Galleria Shopping Mall, The Sarit Center Mall, and The Two Rivers Mall. There's 3 more outlets in subsequent post.

In Africa, Carrefour is only present in Kenya (of course!), Egypt, Tunisia and last but not least Morocco. These are countries with a highly evolved and sophisticated retail sector, not to mention a civilised populace. Carrefour made a sales hit of 15 Bn Kshs last year (roughly 50 Bn naira) and they plan to increase their stores in Kenya. If you haven't shopped in a carrefour chainstore and above you shouldn't consider yourself to have had a 21st century retail experience cool
