Far far more better than ShopRites. I don't even go to ShopRites to buy something. When supermarkets are many in the country. You guys should just allow those two useless bunches of lazy Bombastic Zulus to continue mocking themselves.

Really dude?

Not ever person in SA is zulu, its not the same like in Nigeria where 3 tripes dominates. In SA we are evenly distributed among 10 tribes + englisg+afrikaneers+indians+ chinise

Yes you can be patriotic don't be Kenyan attitude

Ask yourself why SPAR is not leaving Nigeria then you will find out ShopRite don't know how to do business.

Compete with Kenya? shocked grin

When Kenya can't compete with just Lagos state not to talk about a region. grin

Shoprite knows how to do business hence it trades in excess of 20 countries, that'sthat's why its the biggest retailer

Different reasons for leaving.

Nigga, this place gets old with your redundantly repetitive BS! We long ago established the true nature of Abuja a combined
-Potemkin village with abandoned mansions built for money laundering
-a giant open air toilet even within the CBD without basic amenities like any other town in Naij.
Must I repost the pics?
nearly missed this

This is such a lie. You think there weren’t any escalators in Nigeria, infact the shoprites don’t even have escalators, they failed because you could buy 10 times what they sold for the same price, does that even make sense. If you can save money and buy in bulk elsewhere would you not. Other shops like prince ebeano, hubmart etc are still surviving because their prices are lower and their shops are of similar standard, shoprite doesn’t know how to operate in a Nigerian environment, so they are giving away the company to Nigerian investors who actually understand the needs of the Nigerian population.

And Shoprite has been in Nigeria for how many years?

Shoprite is the biggest retail store in Africa, so when it wants to leave the biggest market in Africa there must be a big problem with Nigeria and the FG of Nigeria. I would also leave if the enviroment is not good to continue.

I grew up there thank you very much. And I know the road is very long but I wouldn’t personally consider it in Sandton. For me Sandton is sandown, grayston, Rivonia and morningside I don’t see how William nicol is part of it.

Your knowledge of SA needs to be updated real quick.Facts don't change according to how you PERSONALLY feel.

My cuz told me how post 2013 Kisii county has become unrecognizable. Real estate, hospitality and infrastructure development have changed not just Kisii but all counties in Kenya.
Thanks!

Carrefour retail chains in kenya..hats off to these guys they know their fvcing job!! Little wonder they are the second largest chainstore in the universe.

1,2,3,4 at The Hub Mall, Galleria Shopping Mall, The Sarit Center Mall, and The Two Rivers Mall. There's 3 more outlets in subsequent post.

In Africa, Carrefour is only present in Kenya (of course!), Egypt, Tunisia and last but not least Morocco. These are countries with a highly evolved and sophisticated retail sector, not to mention a civilised populace. Carrefour made a sales hit of 15 Bn Kshs last year (roughly 50 Bn naira) and they plan to increase their stores in Kenya. If you haven't shopped in a carrefour chainstore and above you shouldn't consider yourself to have had a 21st century retail experience cool

Yes, but home grown retail chains are ideal. You don't want foreigners CONTROLLING most of your own formal retail as may happen in under developed markets.

Shoprite is not only leaving nigeria, its leaving many african countries.... Shoprite said its non-SA operation contributed only 11.6% last year, expect many more closure from other nations cos its obvious shoprite didn't conduct market research before entering into different markets, what works in SA may not work elsewhere.

There are various reasons why shoprite left naija n i'll be frank with u here.... Its the currency fluctuation and pandemic-induced lower purchasing power coupled with the new rave of online shopping, many nigerians now prefer to shop online and have their goods delivered to them..... I doubt if any african country can beat nigeria in online shopping.

Finally, shoprite is not the online retail outlet in nigeria and can never be used to judge the economic outlook, its only u saffers that think shoprite is big here, while in real fact, its not..... It has only 26 stores across d country as there are many other local retail outlets. Like here in Lagos, every area or local govt has its own dedicated mall, how can shoprite with only 26 stores compete in such situation?

P.S...... shoprite is actually selling majority of its stake to Nigerians. i'm glad we're controlling our retail sector.

Sure but one must never forget how difficult the FG of Nigeria can make it for foreign companies in Nigeria. Don't forget MTN and DSTV. How ever I understand where you are coming from.

15 years they dialed because of xenophobia back in South Africa from 2003-2015 they were growing by more than 10% annually during the xenophobia crisis in South Africa, their sales and customer volume dropped by -56% and till now it had only gone up to -14%, which meant that there was no point of having a business Nigerian income had nothing to do it.

If the xenophobic attacks didn’t happen then they would still be in Nigeria, less Nigerians went there, the stores were looted and some were even burnt because of xenophobia. More Nigerians wanted to go to Nigerian stores rather than South African ones which is why prince ebeano, humor and jara have been growing so well recently. Had you stupid South Africans not carried out your xenophobic attacks on other Africans, then shoprite would likely still be here

Shares in Shoprite Holdings increased by over 11% on the 3rd of August, 2020 showing that investors are more confident with the decision. Nigeria’s macroeconomic realities do not seem favourable particularly for international retailers due to the foreign exchange volatility.

Nigeria is predominantly Market shopping, online shopping is still decades away to be taken seriously.

Interms of online shopping, SA & egypt are ahead
