I'm also planning to do something like this after school

How then are you wetting the plants or doesn't it requires water

[Out of the 40 acres, we have only been able to clear 20 acres and we have planted the 8 acres before the whole coronavirus lockdown began.

please maintain that 8 acres well and don't expand until you consolidated on it . know it's problems, overcome them, then watch before you expand. don't be in a hurry to expand. hold that 8 acres for the next 2years before expanding. you can use the remain land to plant other crops like maize cassava etc your your choice your pick

also for irrigation, if you don't have money for it then starting from September alternate between npk 20.10.10 and urea every 2 weeks in small doses till the rain ends. this will enable the plantains build vegetative growth to withstand the dry season

Can you expantiate more on the irrigation aspect

from the moment rain starts in Sept, start applying fertilizer in small doses every 2 weeks till the rain ends. This method is to enable the plantains build up enough body weight, vegetative growth and robust and stable stem girth to withstand the dry season spell. if you don't do this, THEN WITHOUT IRRIGATION ALL YOU EFFORT WILL BE IN VAIN as 70% of your plantains will emancipate and die

secondly plantains hate weeds but during the the thick o the dry season say December, January February pls don't weed until you see atleast three rains

the moment you sight rain pls plant. people usually say it's doom if you plant your plantains in September because it will meet the dry season and dry up and I'll just laugh at them. I planted two of my plantains i farms last in different locations in the thick of the August break last year. the part farm that got the regime of fertilizer application I explained to you made it through the dry season without breaking sweat with the other barely survived. I lost 80% of that farm berfore the rains began and I had to replant

for fertilizer application, a match box quantity on both sides will be enough every two weeks. but be careful not to apply too near the stem else YOU WILL KILL YOU CROP MOST ESPECIALLY IF DEALING WITH UREA

When you mentioned 80 acres... I was shocked... Is there really market for it
Re: My Journey Into Plantain Farming - Challenges, Cost And Profit by joyoftheearth: 3:13pm On Aug 08, 2020
There is market for even more than that especially if you harvest during the off season.

I planted about 100 sockers in December without irrigation, but am yet to start seeing the fruits. Though they have grown to a reasonable height.
My worry is that my supervisor planted cassava with the plantains and these cassavas are growing very tall and green.
I have instructed him to harvest the cassavas by September and never to plant any crop among the plantains.

Towards the tail end of May to early June.
If you get healthy suckers and provide water for them during dry season (December- February), within 9-11 months, you should get your first few harvests.
But here is the thing :Plantain trees do not like weed growing around their roots.
Plantain farming is very susceptible to wind. Some school of thought says, if you have trees in the farm, they sometimes takes the hit to reduce the casualty.

I also observed that plantain grown in swamps tend to yield better with or without fertilizers.
it's just my opinion and research made in my small scale plantain farm (2 acres with over 1400 plantain trees)

I'm not an expert but with the little experience I've garnered in my farm, plantain fruits usually comes out after 9-10th month and by my calculation, yours is 7months old.
Cassava do not really have much impact on the growth of your plantain because it grows rapidly than the sticks and store much water to its roots when it rains and they're taller to absorb more sunlight to ripen their fruits.

Can you upload the plantain current state, may be more experienced farmers can render more advise?

Neva plant cassava with Plantain. they don't cooperate together because cassava is a heavy feeder, it will stint the plantain growth

best crop to intercrop with Plantain
at early growth stage:- corn, tomatoes, pepper and veggies in general
canopy stage:- cocoyam and to an extent shoko nothing else

that is highly intensive planting and needs continued management for best results by making sure no more 4 suckers per stand and adquate manuring .pics attached is a example 2m x2m planting with 1000 stands of Plantain
