Good evening All,

Please, I like to know when applying for study permit for my son: who should be the one spraking in the SOP/LOE? Even if I wish to write the SOP, should I speak using the first person pronoun or the third person pronoun?

NOTE: My son is a minor (15 years old) going for undergraduate studies.

Kindly guide and advise.

Young folks are forgiven a lot. The biggest foul play will be sponsor. It is best if parent or siblings sponsor him. Also make sure your POF is tight. All the SOP and LOE no be big matter for young people like him. It is the parent job to submit tight sponsor documents and letter of support. If you still want him to add LOE, let him write a short one by himself and review it. You need to let him write in his words, while you ensure he touches the whole application,

1. Why he wants to study what he is gong for

2. Who is sponsors are and the relationship.

3. What he plans to do upon his return e.g. NYSC and others.

All the best.

Hello Frankrobbn1,

The bolded is for sure. There is likely to be some rejections but the approvals may be slightly higher. Certainly, rejections in the FS AIP is inevitable but there may be more of successfully applicants coming out of the SS.

The bottomline is that applicants should still hold onto their funds then watchout and/or defer to Winter 2021 if their visas ain't out before resumption.

Bless up bro!

I think the picture below explains the situation of your friends. For example, before now, the program duration of an MEng in U of C(as seen on the website) is 2 years. However, some peeps complete the program in 1 year and still get 2 - 3 years PGWP upon graduation. This means their program was "accelerated".

I need your advice on this please. One of the schools I applied to run an MEng program for 1 year (UWO - as seen on the website), though I am yet to get a decision on my application.
I believe I can extend my program to 16 months (with the intention of getting a 2 years PGWP).

Will the duration I spend on the program (16 months) be considered for my PGWP or the schools program duration of 1 year?

It is not just for accelerated programs. IRCC is unpredictable.

A friend of mine finished from UWO last year December, Chemical Engineering (1 year program) and got 3 years PGWP. Another person in the same department, applied and got 15 months PGWP. Another person got 1 year PGWP.

I have also seen someone who finished 2 years college program and IRCC gave him exact 2 years PGWP. Again, it tells you the unpredictable nature of IRCC. Although, in most cases, on the completion of 16 months/2 years program, it is almost a guaranteed 3 years PGWP.

Under normal conditions, the program completion letter and visa officer's discretion determines the length of your PGWP.

With regards to accelerated programs, my former flat mate finished from University of Windsor. His program was supposed to last for 16 months but he completed it in 12 months. On his completion letter, school stated the initial 16 months on his LOA and he got 3 years PGWP.

If you are sure the program can be extended to 16 months and it will be stated on the completion letter, then you are good to go.

If you are thinking of going for a 1 year program, please have a back up plan.

P.s for college students, if you do 1 year program, It is exact 1 year PGWP you will get.

Thanks a lot for your kind response. Although his admission lettter stated that his program begins Sept 2021, is it advised to take advantage of the current atmosphere of AIP and apply for his study permit right away before IRCC Sept 15 deadline of this new processing method?

AIP is for Fall 2020 applicants alone. He can apply now but they won't prioritise the application.

Thanks Bros! If he applies now, knowing full well that the priority is for Fall 2020, what benefits could we hope to gain when they eventually attend to his application?

Since a minor cannot travel/study alone in Canada without being under a custodian watch his mother wants to go with him as an accompanying parent in line with IRCC requirement. Now the question is: if he sends in his application for Fall 2021 right away, will it not raise any suspicion that we simply want to take advantage of this season of massive AIP which is meant for Sept 2020? Please, advise me as I dont want to take any useless risk either way.

Nope it’s always advisable to apply in time and it will do no harm if you apply now cus the are mainly attending to the September 2020 intake and they won't prioritise the application as someone said earlier.

He @osemigho,
Nice reading up on your posts.
Regarding the 3 year PGWP after one year master's,is it possible too after one year post degree diploma/certificate. I applied for Advanced Business Management Diploma for Spring 2021. If possible, how did the guys you know of do it.
You can email me on: ufuoma.ojomaikre@outlook.com

Hello MadeMan01,

Getting a 3yr PGWP with a 1yr Master program is strongly based on the VO's discretion and not always guaranteed.

There is a strong doubt if the PGWP has been issued for 3yrs with a 1yr PGD/C or AD.

It goes like this; 8 months program equals 1yr (depends on VO's discretion), 1yr equals 1yr., 16 months equals 3yrs (also depends on VO's discretion) and 2yrs equals 3yrs.

Ultimately, everything boils down to VOs discretion.

@Osemigho and other Gurus: please help me throw more light around the issue of sponsorship. As his father, should I position myself as the primary sponsor while his uncle in France and his aunt in Canada be the secondary sponsors? One year tuition and living expenses for him, his accompanying mother and younger brother (8 yrs old) is #11m, and all my savings till date is #6m. With this amount, am I in best position to be the primary sponsor or his aunt ( a Canadian citizen) whose savings is probably bigger than mine should be the primary sponsor while I serve as the co-sponsor? Can the three of us (myself, his maternal aunt and uncle) be the sponsors, hope 3 sponsors is not to much?

Normally with your 2.1,
a Masters should be the next line of action for u, but your work experience (registered business & customer care service provider in a financial institution) is a cogent reason you can explain to a VISA OFFICER (in ur SOP) if its a Business Related PGD/PG. Cert u are going for.

For PGD/PGC in International Business Management(IBM)
or
PGD/PGC in Global Business Management (GBM)

Visit the link below for schools offering PGC in IBM
https://www.ontariocolleges.ca/en/programs/search?q=International%20Business%20Management&page=0&by%5BProgramCredentialEnglish%5D%5B0%5D=Graduate%20Certificate

Visit the link below for schools offering PGC in GBM
https://www.ontariocolleges.ca/en/programs/search?q=Global%20Business%20Management&page=0&by%5BProgramCredentialEnglish%5D%5B0%5D=Graduate%20Certificate

Check LAMBTON College as well for their PGD/PGC Business program

and also,

its advisable for u to write a Cover letter (addressed to that department in the sch.) as part of the supporting documents for ur admission application, in which u will talk about why u are going for IBM/GBM instead of a History & Int'l relation related program,
this is where u will now explain urself that "u have a registered business u do with so so years/months of experience, and u would need more knowledge for your business to get a global recognition, blah blah and be able to do business beyond borders",and also in the cover letter mention like 3-4 courses/subjects u will be doing in that program.
also
u need an Updated Resume or CV in which your Business name , type of business , when u started etc. should be there

In Summary,
know that, ur transcript says more about your History & Int'l relations degree,
so its your cover letter and ur Updated Resume/CV the admission committee of the college will likely dwell more on in order to make a decision if u will be given the admission or not.

All da best!!!
Thank you sir. I appreciate

Yes it will be accepted if it’s less than a month and all you just have to do is make sure the gift deed is not poorly worded when writing your LOE. Below is a sample of how it should be started in your LOE.

I wanted to apply for PGD Chem Engr in any Canadian college since I'm very sure I will secure admission easily...Unfortunately, no college in Canada offers PGD in Chem Engr...all I see is Advanced diploma in Chem Engr.... Pls Gurus, do you think I will be rejected by the Visa officers if I apply for student visa with Adv dip admission letter. (Note: I don't intend to do MSc)

Hello Ogidigan1,

Going for an Advance Diploma for same course done in your UG will be considered not progressive. If the Advanced Diploma is the only way out, then it makes more sense to go for a different but related course.

However, a PGD will be more suitable choice. Your application might not necessarily be refused based on the Advanced Diploma selection but it may be refused for not been able to justify your study purpose. Hence, not being able to demonstrate you're a genuine student.

Its not advisable going for a program lower than one's first, as it doesn't show ANY progression. If you can satisfactorily justify the 'any,' you maybe classified amongst those that got their application approved via a Diploma or Advanced Diploma program.

To help you build ideas, you can go to the webpage of your department and/or program to read up what the program entails. Hello Muslimity,

The First Person pronoun is the best fit. If you wish to write the letter, the tone and vocabulary should reflect his level of education except he is adroit. You can first get him to write it, thereafter, you can vet and further improve on it. If you intend to accompanying him, it should also be addressed in the letter using the Third Person pronoun upon or after introducing you as his mother.

If you're not the sponsor, you should write a letter on why your intended travel. The sponsor should be able to demonstrate that he can cater for the financial cost and responsibility of two persons during the study length in his Letter of Sponsorship. The letter should mention about your intended travel and provide justifiable reasons. This will make more sense if its a parent (family) sponsorship.
