While you are right in most cases, remember being a good employee or entrepreneur also requires more than intelligence. In fact, the diligence needed, which most first class students have in one way displayed to maintain that CGPA across 8 semesters or more should be applauded. Of course, more than "intelligence" goes into earning a First Class from a University as well.

But Makinde is not doing badly o.

I mean, this makes total sense to me.

Just give them adequate remuneration, then you can rejig the syllabus to make it wholesome and hands-on and voila, you are producing students that can compete anywhere in the world.

There is huge difference BTW being intelligent and knowing how to teach, ability to teach is a talent. In Nigeria coming out with first class doesn't proof you are intelligent there is mass sorting of papers and bribing of lecturers both in cash and in kind,if you can give your body to the lecturers and sort your exam papers if their is another grade after first class they will give you.Sex for mark lecturers quickly comes to mind.

The Nigeria lecturers marking scheme is very rigid. They want you to give them word to word of what they taught you. If you transgress from the note, you are heading for doom.

Nigeria educational system supports cramming and condemns creativity
It is worse to find out that even at Post-grad level, its same. I just weak.

This has always been my clamor. Teaching job should be exclusively reserved for the best brains in the country. Teachers should be among the highest earners in the country like doctors' and even politicians'. We should understand that only a great mind can nurture great minds.

And I presume we are talking about ordinary students who study to pass and not sex-for-grades students.

The only reason I can advise a student to aim the first class hon in any Nigerian university is for him/her to win scholarship and grant for his PG program abroad.

First class is becoming so worthless in Nigeria.

The best thing as a Nigerian student is to engage in extracurricular activities or training outside one’s academics if one isn’t a health related discipline.
Extracurricular activity/training like programming, handwork, photography, data analysis et al.

Well said, most of the applicants that are first class went there due lack of employment, once the opportunity raises its head they are gone.

The oyo teaching service will experience high turnover rate without stability.
