The law doesn't apply to Christians at all and even Muslims can choose. So i think the law being repealed should be spearheaded by Muslims themselves. Also our Civil/Criminal law is primary and above the sharia law we have. The man will surely appeal his case to a normal court but the issue is his safety in his community over there

Did you read that part where they said his Appeal is to the same satanic Islamists (not to the secular Courts, as you think undecided) an only another Jihadist follower of such satanic prophet Mohammed will decide his fate?

Muslims are too afraid to spearhead such repeal of the law, all the ISWAP from Mecca will descend on them
Ordinary cartoon drawn in Denmark, the Jihadist were killing people all over the world, that is how evil and satanic that they are

@bold that's another death penalty, it is called apostate. If any Muslim should revert to other religion he/she will be stoned to death.

Islam breed hate
That then leads to the question of who is a Muslim? Is it one born into it, or one who just joined family members to be doing what he sees them do, or one who after maturity chooses of his own free will?

Please check your wall properly, I have longly replied you adequately. That was more explanatory than what you sent me in the first place, though still not in support but I only reserve my comment on that cos I aint no muslim & since you have confirmed that you people are in support of the mode of execution (stoning) amongst yourselves, & that writer has stated it does not affect we Christians. That is the only enlightenment I got from there. So, Good luck to you sir.

Death Sentence For Blasphemy At Kano: A Perspective by O. G. Chukkol

I have been following arguments on social media for the past two days about the death sentence passed on one Yahaya Aminu Sheriff for blasphemy (insulting prophet Mohammed PBH) at Kano.

Let me make few observations here:

1. There is actually a Shariah Penal Code law in Kano state

2. The said Shariah Penal Code makes provision for offences and punishments recognized in Islam

3. The Shariah Penal Code Law prohibits blasphemy and a violator risks death sentence. See section section 382 thereof.

4. The Shariah Penal Code Law of Kano applies to Muslims only

5. The Shariah Penal Code Law of Kano does not apply to non Muslims. So a Christian or any other non Muslim cannot be prosecuted under the law except if he consents to it

6. Sheriff was tried and convicted under the Shariah Penal Code Law because he was a Muslim.

7. Sheriff has the right to appeal to a higher court for his conviction to be reviewed or set aside if the trial court was wrong.

8. Governor of Kano State has the final say on Sheriff's conviction. He can pardon Sheriff and allow him go free or change the punishment or sign death warrant for Sheriff to be executed/killed as ordered by court

9. A non Muslim who insults prophet Mohammed or commits any other form of blasphemy can at best be tried under the general Penal Code law for defamation or breach of public peace or any other related offence depending on exactly what the person says

In view of the foregoing, I will completely refrain from commenting on the appropriateness of death sentence for blasphemy because it is an Islamic injunction entrenched in a written law. Besides, I may not even be objective about it because I am not a Muslim, but a Christian. I will only end up pouring my sentiment in the guise of criticism. To me, is not even logical to use my religion to condemn another religion.

I submit further, for the purpose of emphasis, that the offence of blasphemy applies to Muslims only and they are in support of it. They are comfortable with it because their religion provides for it. I cannot take panadol for somebody's headache

Had it been the offence applies to non Muslims also, I would have immediately condemned it for being unconstitutional.

It should be noted that the Shariah Penal Code was enacted pursuant to section 38 of the constitution which provides for right to freedom of religion and sections 4 and 6 of the constitution which gives states power to make laws and also establish courts for themselves and also section 36(12) which provides that person can be convicted for an offence only if the said offence is defined in a written law with sanctions attached.

That is to say, the Supreme Law of the land has given them backing. They can practice their religion provided that a non Muslim shall not be affected

Let me drop my pen here. Everything I put down here is strictly my opinion and I may be wrong.

Greetings Ladies and gentlemen

This individual is not a reasonable fellow. He is only pretentiously trying to be one. It's the individual religion that matter to him, not the person. There is a lot of injustice being perpetrated under the guise of religion. Here a governor captured with evidence accepting bribe is the one to sign off on the victim's death. Is that not enough justification to cry against the use of some religious lies to oppress the poor further. Someone said Kano people are planning to kill for the person they have never see. Most so called religious Africans need help. It seem only those that practice our traditional spirituality that seem to be sane these days aside from those among them that misuse the knowledge they possess.

Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution as amended, does not allow death sentence for blasphemy.

The 12 Northern Nigeria’s sharia states that adopted and use Islamic Sharia criminal laws are in another Republic of Arewa but stick to one Nigeria because of crude oil and access to the sea .

Shariah law has no place in a modern secular country. Imagine if Sango or Sopana law is implemented in Nigeria? This is why no religion should get special treatment. It's either all or nothing.
There is rampant poverty, child marriage, terrorism and illiteracy in the North, but the priority is blasphemy? If you believe God is powerful, let him"deal" with the "blasphemous" people himself unless you think he's weak. You that are enacting your judgement, are you free of sin? Hypocrisy!

Whoever sacrifices to any god, except the Lord alone, shall be doomed. (Exodus 22:19 NAB)

Kill Nonbelievers

They entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul; and everyone who would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, was to be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman. (2 Chronicles 15:12-13 NAB)

Kill False Prophets

If a man still prophesies, his parents, father and mother, shall say to him, “You shall not live, because you have spoken a lie in the name of the Lord.”  When he prophesies, his parents, father and mother, shall thrust him through. (Zechariah 13:3 NAB)

Kill the Entire Town if One Person Worships Another God

Suppose you hear in one of the towns the LORD your God is giving you that some worthless rabble among you have led their fellow citizens astray by encouraging them to worship foreign gods.  In such cases, you must examine the facts carefully.  If you find it is true and can prove that such a detestable act has occurred among you, you must attack that town and completely destroy all its inhabitants, as well as all the livestock.  Then you must pile all the plunder in the middle of the street and burn it.  Put the entire town to the torch as a burnt offering to the LORD your God.  That town must remain a ruin forever; it may never be rebuilt.  Keep none of the plunder that has been set apart for destruction.  Then the LORD will turn from his fierce anger and be merciful to you.  He will have compassion on you and make you a great nation, just as he solemnly promised your ancestors.  “The LORD your God will be merciful only if you obey him and keep all the commands I am giving you today, doing what is pleasing to him.” (Deuteronomy 13:13-19 NLT)

Kill Women Who Are Not Virgins On Their Wedding Night

But if this charge is true (that she wasn’t a virgin on her wedding night), and evidence of the girls virginity is not found, they shall bring the girl to the entrance of her fathers house and there her townsman shall stone her to death, because she committed a crime against Israel by her unchasteness in her father’s house.  Thus shall you purge the evil from your midst. (Deuteronomy  22:20-21 NAB)

2) Suppose a man or woman among you, in one of your towns that the LORD your God is giving you, has done evil in the sight of the LORD your God and has violated the covenant by serving other gods or by worshiping the sun, the moon, or any of the forces of heaven, which I have strictly forbidden.  When you hear about it, investigate the matter thoroughly. If it is true that this detestable thing has been done in Israel, then that man or woman must be taken to the gates of the town and stoned to death. (Deuteronomy 17:2-5 NLT)

Death for Blasphemy

One day a man who had an Israelite mother and an Egyptian father got into a fight with one of the Israelite men.  During the fight, this son of an Israelite woman blasphemed the LORD’s name.  So the man was brought to Moses for judgment.  His mother’s name was Shelomith. She was the daughter of Dibri of the tribe of Dan.  They put the man in custody until the LORD’s will in the matter should become clear.  Then the LORD said to Moses, “Take the blasphemer outside the camp, and tell all those who heard him to lay their hands on his head.  Then let the entire community stone him to death.  Say to the people of Israel: Those who blaspheme God will suffer the consequences of their guilt and be punished.  Anyone who blasphemes the LORD’s name must be stoned to death by the whole community of Israel.  Any Israelite or foreigner among you who blasphemes the LORD’s name will surely die. (Leviticus 24:10-16 NLT)
