i want to study law (bachelor degree ) but i need to proof norwegian language proficiency
and according to studyinnorway.no some universities offer a one year preparatory program, one of them is university of south eastern norway
please can you guide me on how to apply and secondly if i finnish the course can i apply directly to any university or do i have to come back and start applying for student permit again
As far as I know, you cannot apply for a study visa to go for a Norwegian language preparatory program. Only people currently resident in Norway and EU citizens can do so.

Everything is done in the school and classroom.
With Covid 19, you can ask the school what's currently obtainable and do your own research about the current visa requirements.

If i'm not mistaking Norway won't grant you a study permit for study programmes lower than Masters even if you manage to get admission

You can check the UDI website though

I read and learnt from all your contributions

If you don't mind me asking, are you still in Norway? What did you after your studies?
Re: Nigerians In Oslo, Norway by danielinyang(m): 3:29am On Aug 14, 2020
minimum wage for skilled international student in norway is Nok 197.90 per hour which is #8,465
unskilled student would earn Nok 177.80 per hour which is #7,607 then after one year of experience the pay will increase for unskilled
then if a skilled student who work 3hrs per day for for one month he is expected to make not less than #761, 850
The cost of living in norway for international student is around #518, 880 per month this money includes transportation, housing, food , study materials and activities so if a student earn #761‚850 and spends #518‚ 880 he is expected to save #242‚970 every month
note: some student earn more than this why some earn lesser depends on the city you are in!

I SENT AN EMAIL TO UNIVERSITY OF BERGEN CONCERNING concerning the one year norwegian language preparatory program but they told me they dont offer a preparatory program but university of volda does when i check university of volda website this is what i saw
https://www.hivolda.no/en/nis/nis-how-apply
this is what you need to apply
Original diploma from secondary school and university
translated version of this diploma (translated into english or norwegian)
Documentation of english language skills (iets or toelf) but am not sure nigerians have to
Copy of passport (the page with personal info)
motivation letter
Applicants from outside Eu/Eea- area must be qualified for further studies to be considered for admission to Nis. The study program in which you intend to continue on after completing Nis must be a program from volda university college. (but they dont have the course i want to take)
in your motivational letter put which bachelor/ master degree you intend to apply to after completing Nis
application portal opens first december and closes 1march (i guess we have to wait till next year)
tution fees : free but there are other charges
school email: admissions.hivolda.no
application is done online application link: https://fsweb.no/soknadsweb/login.jsf?inst=hvo#
note: The Nowegian immigration policy states that acceptance to a norwegian language course in itself is not enough to apply for a student visa. Citizens from outside the Eu/Eea must have specific plan for futher studies at volda university before been granted visa permit .
hope this helps
Re: Nigerians In Oslo, Norway by danielinyang(m): 5:17am On Aug 14, 2020
BEFORE APPLYING PLEASE CHECK THE UNIVERSITY TO SEE IF THE COURSE THE OFFER IS THE COURSE YOU WANT TO TAKE AFTER COMPLETING THE ONE YEAR PROGRAM

Nice to know that my contributions have been and are still helping people on the thread.

Yeah, I still generally check stuff on Nairaland and it doesn't cost me anything to pop in here occasionally if there are new issues I can help answer.

For your question, I mind just a little bit but no problem.
Basically, I worked in Norway for a while before moving to Canada where I live now.

Yeah,we appreciate your input way back 2013 or 2014 perhaps which has been(and still) stupendously instrumental to all and sundry. You said you worked in Norway briefly and then migrated to Canada. I know these questions are kinda subjective but give us tips:
1) why did u have to leave Norway for Canada, was it 'cause of the lingua franca spoken at work places? Pls give a reason(s)
2)how was Norway generally? Your experiences with Norwegians and in Norway at large. Was the experience worth it? Pls could you shed more light cos we all are naive
3)what advise will u give to intending students like us from a Nigerian perspective. The Dos and Don'ts. What we should take note of and what to expect?

Thanks in anticipation!

My reasons for leaving are personal. All I can say is that Canada is a much better place for me.

Norway is a very beautiful country, not as cold as Canada during the winter, but a very boring place to live in because Norwegians are naturally boring people. Language barrier is a problem as well.

No rules per se, just do what is right irrespective of who's watching so we don't give the country a bad name.

When you get to Norway, you'll meet Nigerians and get to adapt quickly.
Talk with Nigerians a lot because that'll be your easiest route to finding student jobs and getting to know your options during and after school.

All public schools (state colleges and universities) are tuition free though you pay a small token for department stuffs while private universities charge tuition.

You cannot use hnd to appy for Masters. Its only acceptable if you want to apply for a bachelor programme.

If you want to apply for Bsc with HND, I believe you will start from Year 1. I dont think it's like Nigeria whereby you can gain admission to Bsc thru Direct Entry with your HND.

Secondly, I also believe they do not accept PGD for masters. I have read through their education system from A -Z and there is no where I saw Bsc top-up programme (PGD) being mentioned.

All I have said above is mere speculation. Mail the admission officers of the programmes you are interested in so they can clear all your doubt.

No I don't think so as most universities clearly states that your bachelor's degree diploma is what is used for admission

But you can contact the admission office of whatever school you want to apply for
