President Buhari Approves Appointment Of Four Supreme Court Judges From North by boman2014: 1:50pm On Aug 14, 2020
President Muhammadu Buhari has approved
the appointment of four Supreme Court Judges
from Northern Nigeria.

Chief Justice of Nigeria, Tanko Muhammad,
made the announcement in a statement,
adding that those appointed include Hon.
Justice Tijjani Abubakar (North-East Zone), Hon.
Justice Mohammed L. Garba (North-West Zone),
Hon. Justice Abdu Aboki (North-West Zone),
Hon. Justice Mohammed M. Saulawa.

Three heads of court, 11 judges for state high
courts and four Kadis of Sharia Court of Appeal
were also appointed.

SaharaReporters gathered that in October 2019,
the National Judicial Council recommended the
appointment of four justices of the Court of
Appeal as justices of the Supreme Court of
Nigeria but President Buhari refused to forward
their names to the Supreme Court for
confirmation because the North-West
geopolitical zone did not have a candidate on
the list at the time.

One of the newly confirmed judges, Justice
Mohammed Garba, headed the 2019
Presidential Election Petition Tribunal and that
his inclusion on the list is said to be a
compensation for his role in ensuring that
Buhari returned elected.

It was also reliably gathered that the newly
appointed judges will now be on same level
with those from the Southern part of the
country as a result of this development.

Last year, the Senate and NJC cleared
Justice Samuel Oseji (SS)
Justice Helen Ogunwumiju (SW)
Justice Adamu Jauro (NE)
Justice Emmanuel Agim (SS)

He hasn't cleared them.......he has recommended another 4
Garba will retire almost same year as Dongban-Mensem..because Nigerians resisted their throwing out Dongban-Mensem...he intends to make sure he gets him through the backdoor.

I am sorry to say this....This President is insincere with this issue.

Op,the headline and contents are totally misleading.before this current appointment,the northwest has no supreme court judge and last year the njc recommended 4 judges,three from the south and one from the north without any coming from the northwest.now they have recommended new ones.I don't know if the former names were withdrawn or its an addition.the south had 8 judges and the north three.therefore,this new judges are to reduce that gap and fill the slot of the northwest...

Again,the report on the appointment as compensation for justice Mohammed who chaired the presidential tribunal panel is wrong...any judge including Mary odili would still have ruled in buhari's favour.justice Mohammed is the most senior appeal court judge after justice Monica the appeal court president.infact,he was called to the bar and became a judge before her.since she was picked ahead of him as the appeal court president,it will not be proper for him to still be in the appeal court.getting elevated to the apex court is the proper thing...
Therefore,his elevation is to compensate him for losing to justice Monica and not for ruling in buhari's favour which he did rightly

Each zone should have at least three.since its 21 maximum, any zone can randomly benefit from the remaining 3 slots but must not exceed 4

Nepotism has been the practice of Nigerian presidents of Northern extraction.The current President Almajiri has carried nepotism to the level of insanity.

All federal establishments such as the military, judiciary, security agencies, immigration, customs, ports authority, railways, prisons, NTA, NAN, NNPC, aviation, ministries, name it, have all been bedevilled by nepotism.

Nepotism results in bias, unfair treatment, and exclusion of others.Without justice, Nigeria and Nigerians will never know peace, progress and prosperity.

Without justice, forget about one Nigeria.It is the blatant injustices alienation, exclusion, discrimination, marginalization, suppression oppression that fuel the agitation for Oduduwa Republic and Biafra. 

With the Fulani obduracy to cling to power at all cost & philosophy that is opposed to revolution, reformation, or modernity, the break-up of Nigeria is imminent and unstoppable!

Ogunwumiju was brought in to replace Rhodes-Vivour who will leave next year.
Ngwuta will leave next year....no replacement.

What happened to the NC?
Only two.....the first 4 had nobody from the NC

Monica is his senior in everything (including age)

Bar Enrolment
Dongban = 22/6/80
Garba = 2/7/80

Appointment
Dongban = 25/6/03
Garba = 22/9/04

So, how was he called to the bar before her?

Chai.... With these latest development the APC cabals have completely taken over the supreme court of Nigeria.

After Tanko's reign as CJN by 31st Dec 2023, Ariwola will take over briefly for 7 months then retire in Aug 2021 whereby Justice Kekerekun will take over till May 2028 and hand over to Okoro Inyang who will retire after one year as CJN precisely July 2029.

. The NJC recommends those to be appointed supreme court judges from those that handle cases at the appeal court based on their seniority..The last sentence of the report indicates that this development will make a balance and representation of all zones in the Supreme Court...It seems all the regions have been represented now.I agree that those that handled the PET case have been compensated with promotion
