Genevieve and co would never leave our minds for a very long time. I loved them all including Rita Dominic, Tonto Dike etc. But they are no longer the movers and shakers in the Nigerian film industry. Today we have 1 brown skinned actress to 10 light skinned actress. So for every 1 chocolate actress you point at, I can enlist 20 that are not. Young people do not really care about 1 or 2 generation past models, they look at the now. And the message is clear. For you to go far, you have to lighten your skin at some point.

If things continue this way, a lot of people would have to stop shaming bleachers and normalise skin lightening. There is a lot of justifiable reasons to.

Thank you or not chastising me. I am not shaming girls who bleach, I just want all shades to be celebrated equally. I do not follow Nollywood currently so I am not familiar with the current actresses. Normalising bleaching is a health risk and hazard, these creams contain dangerous chemicals that can harm the body. We should have positive corrective promotion for our dark-skinned girls. Healthy skin is beautiful skin. That would be my perfect Utopia.

P.S: I watched a recent movie of Genevieve on Netflix and she still is a very beautiful woman.

I do not follow Nollywood like that but these girls were getting movie roles in the 90s, 2000s and 2010s. I cannot name a single light skinned actress that has had a long Nollywood career, yes some were popular flash in the pan actresses but they have all disappeared into obscurity.
