The Nigerian Ports Authority is pleased to announce the successful berthing of the biggest Container vessel to ever call at any Nigerian port.

This is the same Onne seaport that was left for dead for decades.

God Bless PMB

God Bless Amaechi

God Bless Nigeria.

Where are the purpose Gantry cranes as seen below that will service the vessel to ensure quick turn around time?

All i see are two cranes that appear not really fit for the occasion due to maximum reach.

What are they rejoicing for? Nigerians did not build the ship, we did not captain it. We did not even build the seaport.

1. Onne seaport is home to the largest crane in Africa, a 600 tonnes Liebherr crane.

INTELS acquires N1.8 billion largest crane in Africa

INTELS Nigeria Limited, has acquired one of the largest port handling cranes in the world – a 600 tonnes Liebherr crane worth $6 million (N1.83 billion).

The crane, which has been deployed at the Onne Oil and Gas Free Zone, is the largest at any port facility in Africa.

This means that the movement of very heavy equipment has become even much easier than ever before at the Onne Free Zone.

Konecranes wins order for 20 RTG cranes in Nigeria

Konecranes has won an order for 20 RTG cranes from APMT’s West Africa Container Terminal in East Nigeria. The order was booked in two parts, the first in December 2019 and the second in January 2020. Delivery is scheduled for Q4 2020 – Q2 2021.

APMT’s West Africa Container Terminal (WACT) is located in Onne Port, part of the Onne Oil and Gas Free Zone in Nigeria. It was one of the first container terminals to be built in Nigeria under public/private ownership. It offers excellent hinterland connections to the rest of Nigeria. The WACT is upgrading its container handling operation from reach stackers to RTGs to achieve greater stacking density, throughput and productivity.

The Konecranes RTGs on order are diesel-driven, 16-wheel machines stacking 1-over-5 high and 7 containers + truck lane wide. They are equipped with Active Load Control, Auto-steering and Auto-TOS reporting.

You better thank Buhari for this fit. Lagos is happy to have this happening, Apapa can breath again from disastrous congestion caused by years of negligence of PDP and their silly supporters.

Nice one.

This will lift a heavy burden from Lagos and the people that always chant that Lagos is what it is only because of the seaport can actually create a bigger Lagos in their region with this feat.

Nice one APC, Buhari, Amaechi, and Hadiza.

I just don't know why they think other people are shallow and pedestrian, they just can not see or reason beyond negativity and bigotry.

The 54 containers for Anambra international conference center came through Onne Port, didn’t take time for us to receive them unlike before, great news for easterners, for those who said eastern ports are not viable then are using style to accept the fact

Thanks PMB

Nairaland full of ignorant minds

I still remember when those from west were saying largest container vessels can't berth in Onne Port except Lagos ports, Maerskline Stardelhorn is biggest Container vessel to ever call at any Nigerian port, those making those ridiculous claims then should go and bury their heads in shame

Yoruba is your nightmare, OK oh, who cares about your wretched life? Are we your Governors that exchange your destiny with kerosene and wheelbarrow?

Oh boy....., this is going to affect Eko Atlantic. All the projections & calculations figured into the project will have to be recalculated. ( Remember, its private sector investment with the expected rate of return on investment base on time value of money. Decongestion of Lagos port can translate into overall lost of revenue for the state)

A redirection of Igbo's economic dynamism in Lagos + the kicking off, of Africa continental free trade area by the first of January 2021 is economically not a good news for the SW period.
