Toju200: I actually my preference was for 50 but in terms of effectiveness and best value. Which would you rather prefer 2 A29 Tucano or 75 Wing Loong II UAV's. In all honesty ❓ But you must look at cost effective solutions and in this regard. Boko setting up Ambush and or driving with reckless abandon across the NE in convoys of pick up gun trucks to attack NA positions will be impossible. 4 Likes |

Heartlessbanker: I can answer the question but possibly not in the right context. You can join the Royal navy with short-sighted eye sight. However, most people will optimise for corrective laser eye corrective surgery which will restore you eye sight back to 20/20 vision for about twenty years before any gradual detoriation. You could take the cheaper short term option of contact lenses. I don't know if laser corrective surgery is available in Nigeria and how good the quality of service is, it may be open to serious question. |

On August 13, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) dispatched a group of Helicopter gunships and fighter jets to target Ansaru position in the Kuduru forest in Kaduna State, Northwest Nigeria. In a statement shared on August 15, Major General John Enenche, the Coordinator Defence Media Operations disclosed that the Air Component of Operation Thunder Strike has neutralized several armed bandits at their camp in the Kuduru Forest area of Kaduna State. “This was achieved through air strikes on August 13, 2020 on the heels of intelligence reports indicating the convergence of members of Ansaru Terrorist Sect-linked bandits group, led by one Mallam Abba, at the location. “Aerial surveillance missions conducted over the area also observed several bandits, some wielding weapons, in the forest,” he said. Enenche added that Nigerian Air Force jets and helicopter gunships were therefore tasked to attack the location. Several of the “bandits” were killed as the attack aircraft strafed the area, while others attempting to escape were mopped-up in follow-on attacks. On August 7, the Al-Qaeda affiliate Ansaru claimed responsibility for an attack in Kaduna State. On January 17, 2020 the same group claimed responsibility after it targeted the convoy of the Emir of Potiskum, Yobe State in Kaduna. In response to the renewed threat from Ansaru, Special Operatives of Operation Puff Adder of the Nigeria Police backed by Counter Terrorism, Intelligence and the Police Airwing helicopter stormed Ansaru camp in Kuduru Forest. In November 2013, the United States Department of State declared Ansaru, alongside Boko Haram, as foreign terrorist organizations. The United Nations Security Council, the United Kingdom and the New Zealand government have also listed Ansaru as a terrorist organization. |

Army Transfers Lance Corporal Martins To Sokoto For Secret Arraignment Before Martial Court Idakpini was arrested in June 2020 shortly after he made a viral video castigating Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Burutai, for the failings of the army to combat and destroy Boko Haram. The Nigerian Army has transferred Lance Corporal Martins Idakpini to Sokoto in a bid to secretly arraign him before a martial court. Tope Akinyode, Idakpini's lawyer, made the disclosure on Saturday. Akinyode said, "Information reaching me right now indicates that Lance Corporal Martins has been surreptitiously moved from Abuja to Sokoto to be tried before a martial court on Monday. "I'm also informed that the army is forcing a lawyer from within the Force on Lance Corporal Martins in a desperate attempt to jeopardise the case and wrongly convict the detained soldier. "Lance Corporal Martins has been brutalised and subjected to a great deal of dehumanising treatment. He was also denied food and has therefore developed ulcer." Idakpini was arrested in June 2020 shortly after he made a viral video castigating Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Burutai, for the failings of the army to combat and destroy Boko Haram. Since his arrest, he has remained in detention, incomunicado. Army Blocks Lance Corporal Martins From Seeing Lawyer And Family Despite Court Order On July 22, 2020, an Abuja Federal High Court ordered the army to grant the detained soldier immediate access to his lawyer and family after Akinyode argued an ex parte. Justice AI Chikere held that it was a continuous breach of the detained soldier's fundamental human rights to be denied access to his lawyer and family. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nuANgLDzXB0 However, Akinyode who is also the National President of Revolutionary Lawyers' Forum, said the army refused to grant him access to his client despite being served copies of the court processes. Akinyode said, "We wrote the AGF and Chief of Army Staff to notify them of the court order. I also called the AGF on phone and he assured me the court order would be obeyed. But myself and Lance Corporal Martins' wife visited the army headquarters thrice to see my client, but we were blocked." Akinyode, who vowed to resist the move by the army, said refusal of the Nigerian Government to obey court orders ridicules the country in the global community. https://saharareporters.com/2020/08/15/breaking-army-transfers-lance-corporal-martins-sokoto-secret-arraignment-martial-court 1 Like |

INSECURITY: At last, 386 injured soldiers, others quit military The controversy over 386 soldiers who applied to disengage from the military amid the battle against bandits, terrorists and kidnappers in parts of the country may be over after the authorities fixed their exit date as January 3, 2021. But they will proceed on terminal leave on December 3, 2020. Sunday Vanguard learnt at the weekend that affected soldiers include those who have attained retirement age and others who are medically challenged as a result of the injuries they sustained in the battle against bandits and terrorists in parts of the country. The personnel’s application for voluntary retirement and disengagement from service on medical grounds had stoked controversy after it was alleged in some quarters that it may not be unconnected with poor welfare conditions and adequate military hardware to tackle the myriad of security threats facing the nation. But the authorities punctured the claim, saying it was the right of the personnel to apply for voluntary discharge on medical grounds and other approved guidelines in accordance with military terms and conditions of service. According to a letter, dated August 12, 2020, and titled ‘Approval for Voluntary and Medical Discharge Soldiers for First and Second Quarters 2020’, the Army, said the 386 discharged soldiers were of 1979 Nigerian Army intakes and others. The letter, addressed to the Nigerian Army Special Forces Command, Nasarawa, and copied to various military formations where the soldiers are currently serving, referenced the Harmonized Terms and Conditions of Service of the Armed Forces (2017 Revised). Among others, the letter sighted by Sunday Vanguard, said, “In compliance with Reference A, the COAS has approved the voluntary/medical discharge of one Master Warrant Officer and 385 others. “The soldiers are to proceed on terminal leave from December 3, 2020 while their disengagement takes effect from January 3, 2021 in accordance with the Nigerian Army Administrative Policy and Procedure number 27, Paragraph 3 and 4”. Consequently, it directed all army formations and units to release the 386 affected soldiers to the Army Headquaters Garrison, Abuja, for documentation not later than October 1, 2020. The formations and units are also to ensure that all forms of military controlled items, including arms, ammunition, uniforms and items of combat kits, are recovered from the soldiers prior to their disengagement date and certify that they are properly de-kitted. Furthermore, they should complete all necessary documents in regards to withdrawals of NAWIS (Nigerian Army Welfare Insurance Scheme), BENFUND (Benevolent Fund Contributions), and National Mortgage Contributions. The letter was copied to the Defence Headquarters, the National Defence College, the Nigeria Defence Academy, the Defence Intelligence Agency, the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, the Armed Forces Resettlement Centre, the Military Pensions Board and the Nigerian Army Training and Doctrine Command among others. The letter, earlier requesting the voluntary retirement of the Master Warrant Officer and 385 other soldiers based on medical grounds and other pecuniary reason as contained in the TACOS, and submitted to the office of the Chief of Army Staff through the office of the Chief of Administration, was dated July 2, 2020. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2020/08/insecurity-at-last-386-injured-soldiers-others-quit-military/ |
