We shld b more concerned about d last paragraph where rohr said he's sad dt no super eagles player in d semifinals

Our players re not playing on d biggest stage where it matters, salah mane were d champions last season, also played in d final against madrid wc dey lost(I think two season ago)..while we easily sing our players praises to d heavens for making headlines like most tackle made in premiership, 4 successful dribble and a single assist against barca and Madrid, a world class goal(best young striker in d world) against Valencia in an inconsequential last group stage match ,even d Cameroonians dt dere national team is not on d same par with us are ruling dis year champions league (choupa moting and d oda player in Lyon).

Iheanacho played Semi Final with Man City if I'm not mistaken
It's no secret that we don't have big names in our present SE and the only world class player we have in Ndidi doesn't want to move to a better team

We are still in the building stage of SE if you ask me, the squad is full of very young players with great potential

As good as Ndidi is, he is not always in the news during the transfer window unlike other players...
As in,no club has been strongly linked to him yet...

I wonder why...

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr said the 2020 UEFA Champions League (UCL) semi-final pairings are mouth-watering ties that would be a spectacle to watch even as he backed his former German Bundesliga side,

Bayern Munich, to go all the way. The interesting semi-finals to be played as one-off match in Portugal will see a German Bundesliga side tango against a French Ligue 1 side as PSG and RB Leipzig clash tomorrow at The Estádio da Luz in Lisbon; while Bayern Munich tackle Lyon at the the Estádio José Alvalade on Wednesday.

“ As a Franco-German ( general laughter) I’m very happy with the semi-final fixtures because which way you look at it, I’m going to be a winner, “

The 67-year-old former Bayern Munich defender told NationSport.

“ But my heart will be for Bayern Munich, my former club of course; and I’m happy that three of the four coaches in the semi-finals are Germans. “This means we have good school and coaching tradition in Germany; and I’m happy for Bayern coach Hans-Dieter “Hansi” Flick who is my personal friend; and also know the two other German coaches too (Thomas Tuchel of PSG ; and Julian Nagelsmann of Leipzig). “ They all made good impression in the quarter finals with their tactics as well as substitutions ; and I think the semi-finals are going to be pleasant to watch.”

While Tuesday’s clash between PSG and RB Leipzig would be their first ever in an European competition, Wednesday’s fixture between Bayern and Lyon will be their ninth encounter in European competitions but Rohr said it was painful no Super Eagles is in any of the final four teams.

“ The semi-finals are interesting but I regret there is no Super Eagles in any of the semi-finalists but we I’m happy there is Joshua Zirkzee Who is a Dutch-Nigerian with Bayern and Ademola Lookman who is British-Nigerian with Leipzig,” noted Rohr who also featured for French club, Bordeaux in his heyday.

Trendypulse

Even Gernot Rohr is derailing the thread. Why is he talking about UCL?

It is only folks with obsessed affiliations to their Euro clubsides that will support the obviously wrong idea that this thread should constantly entertain being derailed by Euro club banters for as long as they want.

They know this thread pulls more traffic compared to their Euro clubs thread in the Sports section of NL so they have decided to carry themselves here to defecate all sort of Euro rubbish here. And I say, that should not be so. It pollutes this thread and spits on the thread title.

Of course, from time to time, we can always digress and have some discussions along the lines of Euro Club football even not related to our players but even in digressing, use your sense and whatever maturity level you have to know you should not dwell on those Euro banters or discussions for so long because if we don't check ourselves then that will amount to blatant thread derailment and will see a tilt in the volume of content here being more non-Nigerian related European than Super Eagles/Naija Football.

Going down memory lane a little...

When Joseph1013 began this thread thing on NL for all our national teams. His vision was clearly to see focus on Nigerian football players and Nigerian football as a whole both home and abroad. I was on SL10.ng because of my Naija Football passion both from the local front and the international fronts and I found his threads on NL. I said I could be a part of this and contribute immensely b'cos my passion runs evidentially super deep for Naija football. Naija Football is like my favorite pasttime after Chess.

Before Joseph's Naija Football threads were born, we had several Euro Clubs threads already in existence on NL and none were serving the needs of Naija Football fans except you were a fan of Real Madrid, Barca, Bayern, Arsenal, Liverpool, Man Utd, Chelsea or any other Euro club. Infact, Euro football had and still has its own subsection on NL within the sports section. Naija Football does not.

This thread is a product of the Journeys we have made since Joseph1013's threads where I met some of the regulars you know today in Icon4s, TheGoodjoe, Safarigirl, BascoVanVeli and a few more. Even Terzurum5 (alongside another Op in Orkpekyandega) who opened this thread will tell you that it is Joseph1013 that was the inspiration. That guy started it all. I only found out about it in 2015 and joined same year.

I loved the fact that we had a thread or threads we could dedicate to the Super Eagles and to Nigerian football and call it home for news on anything Nigerian football home and abroad. So this is why it is absolutely WRONG that some will come here and instead of seeing news on Nigerian soccer, they are being fed Lampard vs Xavi and Liverpool vs Chelsea vs Man Utd vs Barca I-better-pass-you banters and talks. It is not informative and enlightening one bit!!!

Respect the thread and all will go well. Respect the Vision that began all this. Thank you.

Listen, I may not agree or stand with Idennaa when it comes to his suggestion to abandon our recruitment of Naija lads born abroad and I have let him know that a couple of times.... BUT... HE DID NOTHING WRONG IN CALLING FOR MODERATION to be made on how this thread, reputed to be the home of Naija Football on NL, was being so blatantly derailed.

You guys keep giving the cheap excuse of the pandemic when football was shut down but tell me, football returned and several of our Naija Lads have been in action even since. Why cannot that be the focus?? Also, why didn't they go to their various club threads to get all those banter talks done since Naija Football was not in action... Why bring it here??

Truth is there is no version of this where derailment is to be applauded. You are here calling for freedom. So people should be free to derail as much as they like?? Is that it?

Abeg... Let us be reasonable and understand that there are reasons why we have some rules that just must be respected even in the presence of freedom of speech.

I doubt that, you can track progression on football from almost age 5. Then you have Automatic Birth Data Capture.

How many of our players can you track their progression from age 5/6/7.

When you apply for anything of substance their is a requirement for official corroboration. You have a professional qualification it must be certified or an academic qualification.

Unfortunately in Nigeria very few things can be unquestionably certified. We even have senators with dubious qualifications.

‘We Thought Dessers Would Become A Lawyer’ – Mom, Brother Speak

Cyriel Dessers' mother, Mama Sophie Bakry and brother, Emile have revealed that they both thought the Belgian-born Nigerian attacker would become a lawyer.

Dessers rather than go into the law profession has chosen a different path for himself – professional football, which has seen him become one of the most prolific goal-scorers across Europe.

The 25-year-old attacking sensation finished as joint top-scorer of the Dutch Eredivisie with 15 goals in 25 appearances for Heracles Almelo during the 2019/20 season.

Dessers’ consistent goal-scoring run of form eventually saw him making a move to Belgian First Division A club, KRC Genk where Paul Onuachu and Steven Odey also play.

His mother who is a 49-year-old ex-flight attendant at Brussels Airlines and 19-year-old brother who studies Business Administration in Brussels spoke to Het Laaste Nieuws.

“The family had wanted him to be a lawyer and not the professional footballer he has turned out to be,” mom and younger brother who are the striker’s biggest fans said.

Emile believes his big brother will score lots of goals for Genk on his return to Belgium.

“If you just let Cyriel play for a whole season, he will score enough goals anyway,” he enthused.

“I am sure of that, I have watched many of his matches. I also don’t know if what I am saying is exactly right but I just have that feeling. Leave Cyriel and it will be fine.”

Dessers is set to realize his dream of playing for Nigeria, having switched international allegiance and provides an intriguing competition for Napoli ace, Victor Osimhen.

Born to a Belgian father and Nigerian mother, Dessers made the squad for the 2021 African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sierra Leone that was postponed due to Covid-19 pandemic.
