1. Chimpanzee

Chimpanzees are not just the closest animals to humans in terms of looks but also in terms of intelligence level. A study carried out showed that Chimpanzees not only passed the mirror test of self-awareness but they also performed better than humans on a number memory test. Chimps can learn sign languages to communicate with humans, show emotions, and create various tools like spears.

2. Crows

These birds are not only smart but have one of the most complex ways of communicating among birds. The Crow has the ability to form a wide network, among other Crows in order to spread information to a very wide range. A crow can remember a face easily, and these birds also feel emotions, which have been seen as a factor that fuels revenge when they are triggered or harmed.

Their ability to create tools to fix their problems is also, another amazing thing about the Crows.

3. Elephants

Elephants have been known to display intelligence by looking out for each other, consoling bereaved members of their herd, and protecting each other. A study carried out showed that the Elephant has a brain larger than that of any other land animal. This “big land giant” has the ability to differentiate between various languages, and a very level of self-awareness as they were able to recognize themselves during a mirror test.

Elephants have been proven to cooperate with each other than humans, such as seen when they went on an organized revenge in a nearby community in India after a member of their herd was killed by a poacher.

4. Dolphins

Apart from being a friend to humans for their heroic acts of rescuing people in danger at sea, Dolphins are known for their high level of intelligence. To prove how smart they were, Scientist marked the body of a Dolphin and showed it a mirror but the Dolphin was aware that the animal in the mirror was it.

Normally, when animals come in contact with a mirror they tend to run away from their reflection or confront the perceived stranger. Only a few animals like Elephants, Pigs, Apes, and Dolphins have passed the mirror test of self-awareness.

5. Octopus

These are probably the most intelligent invertebrates that exist. They have the largest brain of invertebrate with three-fifths of their neurons located in their arms. The Octopus has been known to have the ability to differentiate between two people. In a study carried out, Scientist had two people interact with the Octopus, one with a harsh tone and the other with a friendly tone. The people were asked to leave and return later to the Octopus, on arrival the Octopus avoided the one with the harsh tone and gave full attention to the friendly one.

It would have been a thing of surprise if man’s best friend never made the list, considering the fact that they have been used in highly classified military operations.

Dogs show intelligence by remembering, and obeying commands, and sign languages. They are among the only animals alongside humans that are said to possess the ability, to understand someone else’s point of view.

Parrots are known for their ability to imitate sounds they hear. Studies have shown that they possess a brain with the capacity of a human child. The African Grey parrot is the smartest parrot, as it has been known to learn a good number of human words, and use them in context to communicate with other people.

10. Raccoons

Raccoons have demonstrated their ability to solve problems for a long time. In a study carried out by researchers at USDA National Wildlife Center and the University of Wyoming, several raccoons were given a pitcher of water containing marshmallows and some pebbles. In order to reach the marshmallows, the raccoons had to raise the water level. Half of the raccoons figured out how to use pebbles to get the treat. Others found another way to knock over the pitcher, and get the marshmallows.

They are also famed for remembering solutions to problems for years and for being good at picking locks.

11.Cats

Cats just like their domestic counterparts dogs are intelligent, as they also possess the ability to remember and obey various commands. Unlike dogs, they are harder to train but obey the commands once it has stuck with them. They mostly learn through imitation and observation, with a fair portion of positive reinforcement.

Our forefathers perceived age and experience as wisdom, hence the saying "as wise as a tortoise" because the tortoise lives for a very long age.

DIOBU RATS are the most intelligent of them all.
People who have lived in Port Harcourt or residing there can attest to this.
Those RATS assist mothers with cooking in the kitchens, they know when to add salt, pepper, and maggi.
They can host guests.
They do weekly meetings.
Those RATS chase CATS away.
They can rig election in your favour.
They can render one's future miserable in mins.
They are territorialistic, meaning they never run away on sighting you, rather they walk majestically.
