garfield1: Buhari didn't effect anything. The maritime owners threatened to ditch Apapa entirely if the government doesn't decongest the port. So they have to look for alternatives, in this case using barges to ship to Onitsha. 4 Likes 2 Shares |

Zalam5:which train line exist between lagos and onitsha They are just playing on our intelligence ni,if they are really serious Portharcourt has a sea port and it is a lesst than 3 hours journey to Onitsha, better that this yeye barging from lagos I guess they are looking at same dry port that is tied to Lagos-calabar Reluwey. Where is the loan for it,is it not the one fellow southerners are countering at the House??,what of onne, warri and ph ports ,they claim the water is too shallow but it can be used to export oil and Agric produce but can't be uses to import goods, have you travel from SE to SS and count the check points you encounter ,now count those in the North. The North will never want the SE grow wings to the level of having the gut of 1965 again and that is the main reason for all the gimmicks of slowing and hindering infrastructural development there ,think, the North is just playing ludo with the south ni,it more about 2023 Presidency, than for panNigerianism. Tinubu better have a Plan B ,go and write it down ,it is never going to encouraged to see the light of the day |

IduNaOba: Heads of maritime agencies in Nigeria have agreed to work on modalities for the movement of cargo by barges from Lagos ports to Onitsha, in Anambra state so as to ease traffic in Apapa. You didn't bother to read, even though it is out there written boldly ( 2nd paragraph) you just had to rush and wail - why must you guys be so negative? |

pretyval:why didn't u blame Obasanjo that embezzled billions of dollars meant for dredging of river Niger so Onitsha port could be expanded?..y didn't Jonathan do such?..they could have chose to use warri ports ports in port Harcourt if they never wanted south east to expand ..don't forget they are building ports in Edo and ondo. in case u don't know ,river Niger is the reason why Onitsha doesn't have functional port ,cos it needs dredging that could cost billions of dollars. |

Good morning Nigeria. Let us see how the port cartels holding Nigeria captive since the late 70's react to this. Nigerians will never let go until greed turns a loaf of bread into a biological specimen. It is when Apapa turned to an Apocalypse movie set they gave in. 1 Like |

God has blessed this country with so many waterways you can transport all sorts of goods at a fraction of the cost of road or even railways if we had leaders with a fair bit of vision and just a morsel of intelligence but they prefer to build what they cannot afford to operate, airports and air travel. As we speak the entire waterways in the South from Bakassi, through the Calabar River, Orin, down to Portharcourt, Bonny and on is efdectively shut down by the Nigerian Navy in behalf of goverment. Whole swathes of industries from boat building to fisheries are comatosed. Thousands of jobs gone. This is indeed a very sorry country. 1 Like |
