Hello painters in the house and anyone with experience with this.

The rough finish we see across the attached pictures are quite common nowadays, my questions are;

1/ Which kind of paint is used to achieve that rough finish?

2/ Does the wall need to be prepared differently from other plastered areas? Just as we leave the wall rough for wall tiles, is that same or it should be plastered smooth.

3/ Do we need to screed the areas or not if we want to achieve that horizontal groove/band and rough finish in those little sections as in pictures 1&2?

Any other specific tips are welcome.

Thanks

Grafitex

I don’t mind what it cost. I’ll chose grafitex over and over for exteriors.

I believe it's called tyroline. It's not a paint but cement and sand applied with a hand machine and painted.
Only painters that are skilled in the application can explain the preparation process.
Similar thing was done on the building of a client whom is a member of this section and we supplied the paints.

Do we need to still screed the wall if we are going to apply tyroline/graffitex before painting?
I wouldn't think that'll be necessary again?

Here are facebook links to demonstration videos of a water repellent paint with ability to self cleaning during rain and withstand several actual washing.
We will be applying it on the fence of a client in a few days and I will post the link of the thread here.
It's also very ideal in coastal areas where high humidity quickly degrade paints.
I've supplied our own twinskenny a year ago for internal use but we are using it for external use now.

This is where I would like to challenge the proponents of some major brand names to a similar test.
We actually stained the paint with black oil, sand and water twice and washed it thrice.
Twice with foam and soapy water and once with a coarse sack. You would hear the high scratching sound of the sack and it stayed put.

It's matte with water beading property. It can cover 45 sqm for 2 full coats.
Only the paint meant for the second coat have the additive incorporated in.

I didn’t get the bolded part above. Can you please explain the additive part?

Am I buying that separately?

The chemical is surface active. If it's in the first coat, it would migrate to the surface and interfere with the second coat bonding on the first coat.
Things won't be able to stick on it as much as they would on a regular surface.
So it would be formulated in half of the paint quantity so that the half is used for first coat and the second halve would have the chemical in it.
Cost of matte without the water repellent additive is lower.
