Exactly, The wealthiest of Igbo men were called "Oba"(yam barn) in Igbo language to signify their wealth which was measured in farm produce grin

Yoruba met some igbos led by Obatala in Ife and adapted the title but turned their own Oba to mean "king" grin
obatala can also mean ' he who comes or he is back' a kind of reincarnation even

lets take this attachment to be true.

So where does Oranmiyan come in to name the land ...Ile ibinu
I don’t care what you take the attachment to be. The attachment clearly shows what your own Edo people believe (as at the 1800s) to be the origin of their monarchy. Call your ancestors liars as usual — that’s none of my problem.

No where did I mention that the Yorubas agree to every single detail of the many Edo versions. However, the whole book is not only that one page you’ve read. grin

You may choose to disagree with your own ancestors, but your people of old were at least more honest than you to have told the oyinbo man that their first king was a Yoruba man from Ife.

It wasn’t the Yoruba people pointing a gun at your ancestors’ heads to say that — even though the chronicler’s account apparently conflated the Yoruba man with his son.

Start by refuting Benin and Igala first. Ife is far above your league.

We are going to read from GT Basden when I get time. He said many things about Igbo, including Nri. Now, why is Basden's account important? It is important because he lived among you and witnessed your primitiveness. In the age whiteman transitioned you from primitive into civilized society one of them lived with you and recorded who you were. You can deceive everybody but you cannot deceive GT Basden.

When I get your time, Nairaland will hear from Basden, and it will go into records.

Stop posting artwork, instead post your authenticity to its ownership.

The attached art is Ife origin and is a stool. The fact you are calling it Igboukwu supports my earlier post that you have stolen artworks belonging to other people and attached Igbo to them.

Lol .U made a mistake Yoruba don't agree to an Edo version that doesn't suit their narrative.. otherwise you won't be posting this as ur main authority because the Benin said such

The article is right because it supports ur claim that the first oba came from Ife...but u are blind to the loopholes in the story...

So going by the article, can we agree that oranmiyan was false and he never named Benin Ile Ibinu because the people of old never agreed with it right?

And since u claim that the page is not entirely true...why don't u post the complete book or page let's see and judge

Besides I see that u are making an excuse for the chronicler for mentioning Eweka instead of Oranmiyan...ask urself..if the white was told the Oranmiyan part and how he gave birth to Eweka.. would he have written this page you tend to support?

Next bronze head scarification. An old face marking among the Igbo that is no longer in practice. Another evidence of Igbo heritage.

You are misdirecting you effort right now. The account was given by the Benin palace as at the late 1800s.

If you accept the account as it is, then good for you. If you do not then good for you.

There is no reason why I as a Yoruba should be bonded by what it says. If anyone should be bonded by the account it is you.

Leave me out of this and channel your energy to your palace from where the account emerged in olden times.

If you still don’t understand what I wrote here, then it is high time you get an English to Edo translator.

Python reverence still practice in some part of Igboland till today. We can see this in this ageless python bronze.

Lol.... Nice one.. deflecting my questions

At the bolded...since there is no reason for u to be bonded by the account, why do you use it as ur authority in the arguments ... knowing very well there are loopholes in the story

Every Benin man knows that Eweka ...The First oba was born in Benin, at First dumb .. before he spoke the first word .. owomika which was corrupted to eweka...So we cant be bonded by lies...

My problem is that u are constantly holding it as ur authority even when u know that it doesn't conform with what u believe

And besides...there is no where in the article(maybe u can show me) where it was said the report came from the palace

No one knows where the ancient Igbo got the Eke Python reverence from. Some researchers say we carried the practice from Egypt, while a few disagree, but what we know is that our ancestor honoured the Python. The python bronze casting of yore still lives in Igboland till date. From Idemili in Anambra to Orlu in Imo, down to Aboh in Ndokwa Delta we rever the Eke (Python). Another proof to doubters here that the Igbo Ukwu artifacts are part and parcel of Igbo heritage.

I did not use it as my authority. My authority for what Yoruba people did is Yoruba account and historical scholarship.

I simply presented that account as the authority for the Edo person who lied about his Edo early accounts. Your early accounts talks about your monarchy from Ife.

I hope you are able to understand the language I’m typing with — or is Edo the only language you understand??

Wait a minute, why is your moniker a Yoruba name — are you ashamed of Edo names, or is that an attempt at impersonation??

Lol... weren't u the one always saying according to Roupell since...then u posted the screenshots and its found to be a lie and u are claiming it as an authority of the Edo person...

No Edo person..Even the oba think that Eweka was born in ife... if it were true, then how did Oranmiyan come into The story Esp to rename the city

Very amazing how ur reasoning and critical thinking disappeared when the article supported ur claims which were obviously false but suddenly arises even when there are sources that Lagos was conquered by Benin

Besides I don't think there is any rule that says every nairalander must carry their tribe name as monicker... most times it can be due to the interest in the culture or where dey were brought up

So let me guess...me having an English name and using it in all my documents means that I'm ashamed of my tribal heritage...

Simply pathetic

U just claimed that U weren't holding Roupell as an authority but u quoted his works more that 10 times knowing well that it was false.... seeing that u have been caught...U then deny that u weren't using it as ur authority...Now that the loopholes in the purported story of Roupell has been exposed..U are now running away... why don't u stay and defend ur Roupell or is it because the people of old didn't say something abt Yoruba that u regard them as true
