My two cents:

Don't tie down your capital in a remote village all in the name of building a house. and with 1 million, I don't think the house will be that valuable in terms ROI to you in the nearest future.

what I would advice is try investment with the lump sum, you can try and fail while you still stay with your parent. When you become successful and your lump sum started working for you by yielding returns, you can leave your parent's house, get a nice apartment from the proceeding and make plans for a country home.


I repeat, again, don't tie that money in some village just to please your parent.

Your parents knows better, buying a land is investment, is an opportunity and is just 900k and you will be glad you did when you get to 40yrs. Invest the 900k on the land and still save up and plan when you are ready to settle down. Don't be in a hurry to leave, is an achievement, before the expenses start coming

1. Are you through school?
2. Have you done your NYSC?
3. Do you have a legitimate source of income?
4. Are you ready to settle down in marriage?
5. Can you cook?

If the answers to these questions are no, then please remain with your parents. If yes, you can move on. After all, the present military ruler of Mali is 25 years.
