Odunayaw:Synergy btw both service is key and this is where effective 24/7 real-time communication comes to play. The US military have perfected the symbiotic relationship btw US army and USAF that's why they're almost invincible whenever there Airforce is actively involved in operations. This can only be achieved at Defence HQ level as you said, but first of all do we as a nation have a fighting doctrine? Secondly, I don't think we've built critical infrastructure to support the technology to properly implement what you said. The satellites we've being spending billions on sending to space nobody know how far if it's still functional, we like embarking on projects for "ego" sake. There are brilliant battle plans but the problem is having the requisite resources to domestic and implement them. A chunk of NA's budget still goes for recurrent expenditure though they're doing their best sha, they even advertised vacancy for UAV pilots this year, last year it was rotor wing Pilots, I want to believe they've already started putting in place infrastructure to support their expected Air assets. 8 Likes |

New images South African Airforce C-130BZ 403 being dismantled in place at Goma. It’s a tragic sight, but at least many of its parts went into the spares supply for 28 Squadron’s other C-130s.

What is this news of ECOWAS activating their standby force? Make ECOWAS use their brain oo! and allow Mali be since the coup is in popular amongst the civilians. Yes, it's a thing of concern and a threat to the Geo-political cum economic stability of the region but we should be careful because I am 100% sure Nigeria will be the major donor of both personnel, equipment and cash and gaskiya we have our own problem to deal with make all man paddle him Canoe for now, most especially all these Francophone countries that always gang up to sabotage Nigeria's interest in global politics on dictates of France. If democracy too sweet the powers that's be France should bear the economic and personnel cost of such adventure. We've not fully recovered from the (mis)adventure in Sierra Leone and Liberia were we literally wasted billions of dollars with nothing to show for it. 2 Likes |

ugo4u: Agreed. Malians seem to be satisfied and that is what matters. The activation is just a signal for planning,,,, in case there is violence and bloodshed,,, which might not happen anyway. So,,, I do not see ECOWAS going into Mali since there is no destruction of lives and property. In this case, the sanctions are enough. Note also that the ECOWAS Presidents meeting yesterday did not mention any use of force to restore govt,,, it only said they will deploy if Mali goes on fire. So,, its covered. |

OPERATION HAIL STORM: AIR TASK FORCE OBLITERATES BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS’ STRUCTURES, NEUTRALIZES SEVERAL FIGHTERS AT WARSHALE IN BORNO STATE Air strikes being conducted by the Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation LAFIYA DOLE under the subsidiary Operation HAIL STORM have continued to yield tangible results. The latest of these is the destruction of several Boko Haram Terrorists’ (BHTs’) structures and neutralization of their fighters at Warshale in the Northern part of Borno State on 19 August 2020. The mission was executed after credible intelligence reports and series of aerial surveillance missions established that the settlement was one of those being used by the terrorists as staging area to launch attacks. Accordingly, the Air Task Force dispatched Nigerian Air Force (NAF) fighter jets and attack helicopters, which engaged the location recording devastating hits resulting in the obliteration of several structures as well as the neutralization of some of the terrorists. The Armed Forces of Nigeria, operating in concert with other security agencies and stakeholders, will sustain its efforts to rid the North East of all terrorists and other criminal elements. lebuhsi: I'm going to teach you people something all of you don't know....the isr aircraft are designating targets for the attack aircrafts.....if you look at all the attact runs, you will see a triangle shape, on the point of impact, after the impact, the trIangle shape is gone, i bet you, if you watch any video online, whereby a target is painted for an attack aircraft you will see the triangle shape, depending on the aircraft , in might be inverted or not......in the attacking aircraft it isn't inverted and shows in the HUD of the aircraft. 1 Like |

French army goes retro: Vauban style Star "forts" in Mali. The French have been dealing with an Islamist insurgency in Mali for several years, now. The country's corruption, poverty, and recently, draught, have been feeding said insurgency. This week's military coup will certainly not contribute in making the country any safer. The French have several forward operating bases in Mali. And what better way to protect them than some good old fortifications?! Bastion style fortifications did cope badly with modern artillery, leading then to be replaced by linear forts at the turn of the 19th century. However, low bastions are still good enough to defend against insurgents on foot or riding technicals. French army engineers therefore adopted the Vauban style bastion/star fortifications for several of their FOBs In pics: Small base is at Meneka. The larger one is at Labbezanga. Those bases were built by men of the 17th parachute engineers regiment. 6 Likes

Stephandesward: The triangle shape indicates where the drone is flying in relation to the camera position (cross hair). There is no target painting done by ISRs platforms coz the Alphas and L39 dont use guided bombs. Our pilots do visual identification from their aircrafts. The ISRs job is recon and after battle assessment. Very often we cannot tell from watching the published footage if the intend target has been hit or not. 1 Like |

ugo4u:Salient points. But how hard is it to invest in proper infrastructure. I think each service still views it as an island. As for the Sats, I think we expect too much from them, they're all civilian sats and they're working (My Aunt is a forest biometrician and she has had access to sat image from those our satellites). I think the military were not included in plans when the satellites were being built, so they are just getting whatever they can from it. I remember Op/Ex Sea dog in the Yar'Adua administration. The major diagnosis was that the 3 arms suffered from impairment especially in comms. With what we see constantly in N.E, its evident they're not far away from where they were as at that exercise. |
