saint2ace: The one that goes below 10v is bad. I guess even in same batch some cell of a battery may fail before the other does. |

Good day all, Please I am trying to upgrade to Solar system. I currently have a 1.5kva transformer inverter (see pix below), and was told I will need Charger controller, solar panels etc. I also came across Luminous solar inverter (picture attached). So, I want to know if I should just buy this solar inverter or buy charger controller for my current transformer inverter. Which is better option irrespective of cost implication please. PS: Batteries are Luminous 200AH 12V

Abdomox:Bro get a charge controller, the charging capacity allotted to those inverter for solar modules isn't so big. You can contact me to get the installation done for you. |

Holmes07: Yes. Taking it to them over the weekend. Thanks. |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Abdomox: 8:35pm On Aug 25, 2020 |
Holmes07: You mean the charger controller sends more solar modules than the Luminous Solar Inverter system? Please help clarify. |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Holmes07(m): 9:11pm On Aug 25, 2020 |
Abdomox:You are misquoting me. The charge controller inbuilt in those inverters are usually small, I don't know of that product you posted, don't be surprised if that product has a very small inbuilt PWM charge controller.. Dont forget bro, contact me when you want to add solar panels to ur inverter system. |

saint2ace: What charging voltage is your inverter outputting to the battery. Does it correspond to the manufacturers spec??.. this is the Achilles heel of most small inverter battery failures Was the balancer put from the start, what kind of load in watts do you hv on the inverter |

Hi Guys, I have an old luminous 875W inverter that is fine but the casing is damaged, does anyone know where I can get a casing for the inverter in the attached picture?

earthrealm: Bulk charge at 14.5 - 14.7 and float at 13.8, and yes it does correspond to manufacturers specs of btw 14.5 - 15v bulk and 13.8v float. I've always had the balancer, so was put on from day one, also had a powerpulse desulphator hooked up but later removed it. Batteries are about a month old. |

saint2ace: Looks good.. you omitted the minor issue of load . Whats your total max instantenous load in watts, or list the items if you don't know. I once ruined a batt bank yrs back, cos of this often neglected issue |

saint2ace: 200w load is fair enuff for 2 x 150ah battery.24v setup N you are not tempted to plug pressing iron or anyother big load on it? If not you, other members of your household Last thing to check is the charging current. Prag has adjustable charging current, what did you set it to. |

saint2ace: Why do you need a balancer on 2x12v batteries in series for a 24v system? I fear that may be the source of the pro. |

One day like that Ogas Niyi & Ojeysky were discussing here & should I say they were speaking in tongues. Cos strange words were being spilled everywhere. Tasmota Node Red MQTT Flash Sonoff Emoncms etc Had to roll off my YouTube bundle & went searching. Surprised that instead of seeing Solar monitoring what they were teaching was home automation. Looked cool and all that as you can incorporate solar monitoring into it and many other things. Annoyingly, no one ever stated a starting point. Like acquire this, this and that before you start DIY & programing. And these are where to buy them from. I don't know if anyone here can help me with that. Just tell me what to buy and where to get them to get started. Raspberry, laptop, arduino, sensors, softwares to get.....these things still look & sound like imaginary substances to me. Thanks. |

This whole subject is a veritable rabbit hole to go down. You can start with building a dashboard to monitor and log your solar generation and household consumption both locally and remotely. To achieve this you would need a compatible inverter (e.g axpert type or Victron) or compatible Battery Monitor e.g BMV 7XX. For the solar generation side, a Victron MPPT or other device that supports ModBus TCP or MQTT or serial comms would work. All the information that your devices spit can be aggregated and hosted on EmonCMS [will host whatever metric you can post and is free to use locally or pay per feed for the web accessible version] or PVOutput.org for the solar generation and a few other metrics. In my case, I have many years of pro level programming for medium scale applications under the belt so I simply write my own custom Python scripts that take data from any devices (my Venus GX as central data aggregator) and posts it to any platform of choice. Thus I dispense with all the NodeRed, OpenHAB and other crutches that people are wont to use - IMAO too much overhead for a simple task as monitoring. All these are best done via a minimalist always on and always online PC such as a RaspBerry Pi 3B+. You get a dashboard such as the below and can change on the fly to suit any need. If you put it online, you can view your home system from anywhere in the world. So you need to acquire a RaspBerry Pi preferably 3B+, you need a device with serial or RS485 or ModBus TCP or MQTT comms that you can harvest data from and then you need a place to store and view the data (EmonCMS for general monitoring, PVOutput for a more restricted/solar generation focused) solution. The setup will be Device >> RaspBerry Pi >> Hosting Interface e.g EmonCMS. Your device can be inverter, battery monitor, GX device or charge controller or anything really so long as you are able to speak commands to it over the wire and have it obey or talk back to you Credits to BigRovar for giving me the foundations upon which all my monitoring and logging solutions are built and I also call out Oga Barezzi to showcase some of those beautiful dashboards he has been playing with in secret. essegis: 3 Likes 1 Share

@NiyiOmoIyunade This was taken yesterday morning. It's quite interesting what one can do with emoncms and the plethora of data from my Victron inverter. I'm going to add night and daytime energy consumption to decide which heavy loads i reaaaallly need to transfer to the Critical Loads DB Night time = 5pm to 7am (currently averages 15kWh with one aircon on) Daytime = 7am to 5pm (averages 15kWh as the Heavy Loads DB is currently off due to ongoing renovation works)
