Married folks,
What was that thing you later realised you wasted your money on during your wedding ceremony?

For me was Wedding IV. Spent money printing quality IV. I should have just used WhatsApp, Facebook and SMS and people would still have come. My mums friends and associates was enough crowd.

I travelled with my woman to UK to shop for wedding gown, shoe and wrist watch. Spent £2,200 on gown. £800 wristwatch I cant remember the price of the shoe now. That's for madam alone.

Madam now forced me to buy wedding suits for me and my best man.

Looking back, I would have built a bungalow with this stupid expense. Even my madam now regrets spending such money on wedding gown that she wore for 2 hours and that was it. The gown is wasting somewhere now.

I know I wasted money unnecessary. My only joy is the good wife I married.

Share the mistakes you made in expense planning wedding

New wristwatch for wedding day....waste!

I paid 40k deposit for my wedding video, I am yet to see it 9yrs after.

My photographer's studio was burnt to ashes 2 weeks prior to my wedding. I had paid the deposit so he showed up with a small borrowed camera.

The reception tent i paid for was not there, it was a shouting match a 2 days later. Thank God I didn't pay upfront. I just accessed what they did for canopies, chairs and decor then balanced up.

I even bought a suit for one of my groomsmen, he never showed up. The supplier was generous to refund me.

5 cows were killed in 3days at my wedding, yet there were complaints of shortage of meat.

The only compensation was that my mum never misses a wedding, so people retaliated. She smiled to the bank.

Mod:
Oh! I forgot to mention that the whole set of boxes and the expensive wrappers that her family made me buy was stolen 3 months after the wedding. 3 Judge, 3 Super wax, 3 holladais, 3 English wax, 3 lace, 3nos of every wrapper when they first asked for 6 each. Including wedding ring, the English and Dubai gold sets, hand bag and shoes. Everything was stolen by armed rubbers.

Did not regret much expenses. However

1. My change of shoes slept pretty in my hotel room while my feet was aching during reception grin

2. The small chops and cake vendor was a minus

3. Ribbons for my flower girls did not even make it to the hotel. I used it to tie up some gifts years later. cheesy

I am glad the resources were available to cater for all.

Nevertheless, I was so engaged the whole day I forgot to eat
I've heard this from brides before but never thought it was true.

No where in the Bible where it was stated that you should cook, bake cake, kill cow, wear suit and wedding gown for marriage to take place. Its something we created to scare low income people from marriage.

That's why many of us between the ages of 23-30 are still single because we don't have the money for a glamorous wedding.
We haven't "hammered" enough to hire 2 baba to sing and Basketmouth to host the wedding.

All this glamour is for prestige and pride nothing else. Especially Ladies with their "pepper dem" competition lifestyle. As if the glamour guarantees a long lasting marriage.

Dr D.K Olukoya, General overseer of Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries said when he married his wife sister Folashade, he didn't cook one grain of rice, no soft drink. People that came for the wedding brought their own food and shared amongst themselves. They didn't even bother to give him from the food.

The most important thing for God to recognise you and your woman as husband and wife is for the man to pay her bride price, both parents of the couples to come together and bless the Union and for an ordained man of God to consummate the union, that's all. Any other thing is for the media.

Abeg!

Even the first miracle Jesus performed (providing more wine) was at a wedding.

Na once I go marry. God willing, I will do milestone anniversaries big sef.

The truth is that after reading this many will still fall into high wedding expense. Just pray you don't get a wife to be who have her girl friends to impress. Most of the time the women will accept low wedding budget only to start adding and changing the plan when you have little or nothin to do than to give them their dream wedding. When I wedded last year I told my wife my budget is 1million and she was like is even too much. You don't wanna know how much I ended up spending. We got to cake shop she will be like "honey cake is the main thing people check at wedding". Offcourse using wedding gown which we rented very expensive cant be used for reception. Is not invoke according to her. It was then i heard bridal train is different from Asoebi girls and she literally dash her friends the material. Again according to her is decoration that brings out the beauty of wedding so we have to go for the best. Let me not waste you guys time with long epistle jare. She is a very good wife that's why am not regretting it but she is the one regretting everything now. Ladies mostly should try and help their man cut down wedding expenses because high wedding expenses usually come from them.

grow and develop your mental capacities as a man first.
Marriage is highly overrated.
In all honesty, I feel it's only women that benefit from it...not men

Can't you resell some things? Like the gown. If you feel you wasted so much money. I'm sure a gown of that price would still be good enough to fetch you some money.

Make up. I hated the make up. The lashes were as long as a local broom, I was just flapping my eyes like doll baby. I didn't look like me in the pictures at all. The make up aged me and I've not been able to determine which of my wedding pictures I like.

I have concluded heavy make up and eye lashes aren't for me. Full stop.
Usually, the makeup artist does one before the wedding day to know the suiting face colour and texture for you. He/she didn't?

I love this thread, so educative because I'm planning mine and looking for every opportunity to cut unnecessary expenses!
This thread really came at the right time.

I don't want to spend any 'mumu' money, I prefer to give it to my wife to be than to waste it on impressing anybody!

Honestly I have learnt a thing or two from this thread.

I will avoid these wastes when I host my wedding.

Somethings are truly a big waste...I prefer enjoying it with me and my wife than people who won't even say thank you.

Your wedding is the talk of the town they must complain...if you was small they will still complain.

Just know you can't please everyone.

Host a party you can afford and won't affect your future immediate plans.

Wedding is just a day but marriage is a lifetime.

Focus more on marriage than expensive weddings.

Do everything in a day and if possible skip reception. Feed people at the engagement and serve take away at the end of the church/nikai/court session.

Lol grin, but didn't you take a look in the mirror after she was done to decide if you liked what you saw or to decide if something should be changed?

I hate make up! It makes me look old too and I don't like how it stains clothes when you hug a person or turns a white handkerchief into something dreadful. I limit myself to mascara, white powder and lip gloss.

As for not recognizing yourself, I can relate to that. My former neighbour of 3 years invited me to her baby's dedication in church, I got there and I was looking for her, while staring at her from 10 feet away. Her make-up was so hideous I didn't recognize her. I said chineke what do we do to ourselves in the name of make up?

I no dey do again self.
