Good evening my fellow nairalanders i need your strong advices.my parents are forcing me to get married !! I'm just 21.I've tried all possible ways to change their mind. it ended in vain.

I'm not in relationship either. What should i do now? I'm still schooling and unemployed too..

I rarely comment on nairaland but i read your post and thought i must talk.

1. The point of this life is for living, not for bearing children. There is so much to do as a young man/ woman that will ensure that IF AND WHEN you decide to get married, you will be fully ready and committed to do so.
2. Nigerians are yet to understand that marriage is not for everyone. You actually DON'T have to do so ever. A lot of friends who are serial womanizers are currently divorced or living away from their spouses (Canada, UK, US, office transfer to another state) simply because someone told them to be married by 29-30.
3. No one will help you look after the children when they start to show, and children COST MONEY. Unless you're filthy rich, you'd be amazed the amount of personal sacrifices you will have to start making daily in order to take care of them and a household. Bigger house, more mouths to feed, more quality and expensive food, clothes and toys, a vacation costs 6 times as much for a family of 4 than if you went alone. And even if you're rich, the current rise in the cases of child molestation will not allow you to leave them and be running amok.
4. I dont mean any disrespect to your parents, but realize that misery loves company. People unconsiously want others to be at the same level of suffering that they are (not necessarily financially). They both probably married early and have realized all that they missed out on and want the same for you.
5. Then my personal favorite. Have you travelled first class to Malaysia? Partied in Milan? Stayed at the versace palazzo palace in Dubai? Driven a ferrari on the autobahns of Germany? Held the most beautiful women (or men) in your arms while pouring $1,000 champagne on the floor? Do you have multiple investments, properties and cash in the bank? HAVE YOU ENJOYED LIFE?!! Because once you marry, you can kiss attaining all these endeavours easily goodbye.

People bring incomplete stories, leaving out key elements and variables deliberately so that you can convince them to do what they already set to do in their minds,........ This is the case here, or then OP has a very low IQ. And the people advising the are not better.

That's it.
Marriage is easy but married life is complex.

Chii59:

Are you their only child? Even at 21, you're still so young. Stand your ground, even if you give person pikin belle, you're too young to be straddled in marriage, though, you should man up and care for your child.
If you were my younger brother, I'll never let you get married at this age.

this one is easy
since its ur parents forcing u to marry and u dont have a job
tell them to give u a job fist b4 u think of getting married
i wonder wich reasonable parent go force im child to marry when he is not financially capable
if dem give u job and rent a house for u then they will be justified in asking u to go and marry cheesy

That's an insult to his parents. You don't just type without looking at your words. *I wonder which reasonable parent*. Parents have reasons for advising. They might not be wrong. They both need to discuss it. He is man enough. If they told him to put his hand in fire, would he?

Well, they might have their reasons. Is either they know that you are not going to live long because I don't see any reason a reasonable parents would be forcing their child to get married at 21. May be you need to consult Oracle yourself.

Be happy bro. Only pray to God to provide for you. They want the best for you. I'm 31 and my both parents are late. I lost my month during corona holiday, she followed me to see the girls parent and she's no more today and my wedding is next month and I don't have money neither do I have a Job. Although I'm learning a skill. I struggled to pay some of the items in the list and still hoping God provides for the marriage plan.
When I have my kids I will make sure they get married latest 22 by investing properly for them to inherit and continue the family business. If you feel like helping a brother or supporting my upcoming marriage for next month please check my signature or send a message.

21 is too young for u to marry , besides u don't have anything tangible thing doing , how do they expect u to fend for yourself and your upcoming wife, you r a man , stand ur ground and refuse too , if u had impregnated a lady now they would chase u out , which u didn't unless u haven't told us everything. Nigeria is very hard now, for singles not to talk of married peeps , don't make any hasty decision you may regret.

Tell them to sponsor your marriage.......Should they agree to that, remind them life after marriage.
They will definitely leave you alone..
