Good day everyone,

A review on Seplat's GT recuritment.

I decided to write this review not because I applied for Seplat’s graduate trainee program, but because I believe it is important for future applicants and anything relating to Seplat’s recruitment. First, there is a test by Dragnet (only verbal), then another by HCP (abstract, logical and quantitative – no calculator is allowed). Then the assessment centre where you get to present any project of yours (work or school based) in MS PowerPoint format to the panellists (made up of both HCP & Seplat staff). It is important to keep to time as much as possible. The assessment centre also had group discussion where you are given a case study to analyse and report. Just like the PP presentation, groups should adhere to time.

This is where people fail the most – assessment centre (other than tests’ stage). Candidates were competing with one another when it ought not to be so. You don’t compete in an assessment centre! No matter what. To an extent they were behaving like market women trying to lure customers. My Ibibio people will say “idoho ntoro” (it is not so). It is necessary everyone practices a mock assessment centre (an assessment centre is not an interview oh). Everyone at this stage is brilliant, I met lads with first class from good institutions; University of Aberdeen, University of Ghana, Imperial College London, FUTO, Covenant, UofBristol etc. So you see? At an assessment centre stage, everyone is brilliant. The least CGPA I saw was 4.1/5!

Additionally, due to Buhari’s visit to Lagos on Thursday (following day was Good Friday), persons had to wake up very early to get to the venue somewhere deep in Lekki. One even trekked along Eko Bridge! Another had a long but certainly unforgettable journey back to Ibadan. Lesson: Come at least a day to Lagos and the venue before your interview. Like a lad did from Kaduna and another from Ibadan. Furthermore, after the assessment center, successful candidates were called for yet another interview slated for 40 minutes. Where they will be asked questions regarding competence, leadership, their preferred department and course (technical questions, more like). The interview had water gulpers. Lads and lasses drank lots of water, apparently, because the questions were tough. So tough that someone had headache after the interview and another slept for over 12 hours! For the company, the most I know about them is that they are relatively new (’09), and pay blood money salaries (c.500 - 700K gross monthly). Arguably the highest paying indigenous O&G firm. For an indigenous firm to pay close to Shell (the least paying notable IOC), it means they pay really well.

Finally, I don’t like the idea of WhatsApp groups in the job/vacancies section because they defeat the aim of having a thread like this, as future applicants won’t have any idea about the process - which is not good. However, if person create group and people dey join, I go join even though I no like am. But then, na why I take time blow this grammar. I’ve benefited from Nairaland, and this is one of my ways of paying back.

P.S. More than 42, 000+ applied for the GT program and they took less than 40, do the math. Also, Seplat was the oil and gas firm that was reported to have instructed her candidates invited for the test not to come with charms aka juju.

Ciao!
Someone liked this post. Thanks for that as I couldn't find it even with the keywords.

Seplat dey recruit these days?

Those good 'ol days of recruiting in Nigeria. grin
