To build hostel for Abraka no easy O!

Never knew Abraka boys also have this madness, I'm familiar with Abraka and I barely encounter clash unlike what we witness regularly in Warri, once you settle the family you bought the land from, get all clearance, the Abk youths won't bother you. Just get them small change for bear and buzz.

In some locality down here, you will face various associations, settle several groups, just a pitiable situation. I love how your dad settled the issue without using his military connect, sometimes you just gat to avoid some battles.

I'm not sure the government has a hand in it. It is strictly a money they share amongst themselves.

Had to do this because I'm leaving the country for a long time soon. Wanted to completely secure the properties. Ministry go still chop their own share today.

Even had to secretly record the whole thing before someone tries to say something else some other day.

Government might not have a hand in this directly, but their silence and how they work with these same men during election or when they are enforcing rules says a lot.

I mean, these guys are easy to track, what's stopping them from taking necessary steps so others can desist from these evil practices?

It was in Warri, Ekpan to be precise, that I witnessed real notoriety when it comes to "settlement" back in 2007.

Police themselves advised the developer to settle the youths, and more than 5 youth groups came to site, none of which was willing to receive less than 50k!!!

Imagine what 50k could do back then!

Elders and other groups were yet to come for their share.

The guy was trying to build a hotel close to the Local Government secretariat. I felt so disgusted by the attitude of the youths and pity for the man. Heard he was related to G-Agofure. Wonder why Agofure couldnt wade in.

Those boys are something else. I presume it has gotten far worse, reason why the government wants to step in.
Smh.

You're absolutely right. By this one can indeed say the government is complicit in the whole nonsense.

There was a third plot I acquired less than a kilometer close to these. After paying 70k for settlement, a month later I invited drillers to make a borehole on the plot for me.

These same youths still mobilised themselves to site demanding that they be settled by the drilling company. The company insisted they wouldn't and that government has advised they never pay no one to do any sort of work on sites.

Na so work no fit proceed o. Until I gave them 30k for booze. It is a pandemic on its own honestly.

Sorry, had to laugh, you see Ekpan? no where in Nigeria can match them when it comes to rascality and notoriety, them be werey, these guys go head to head with armed forces, na these people you one follow fight?, if you want your project completed, your best bet is to pay them.

Even after paying these several groups, some will return to task the labourers. Even if he was Aghofure's son, they would still task him, when Aghofure was building his park along PTI road, he also settled these guys, they are the law!

PS: The Local Government secretariat is a bit farther from Ekpan, maybe you missed the exact location, and I hope that experience won't affect how you see that place, aside these guys, warri is a cool place for investment.

government is 100% aware and collect their shares too.

ok let me tell you how this works
they're called ndị ọlụ ani in my dialect Omonile in Yoruba and land grabbers in English.

that 200k you paid might pass two to three different people before reaching the government.
and government might just have like 30k in the whole 200k
see the break down here.
govt will assign an area to a political appointee and state how much commission he'll be returning monthly or any agreed duration let's say 60k monthly.
then the political appointee will appoint his own loyalist in the area (mostly igwes) and tell them how much they'll be accounting with same period and tell him how much he'll be returning then he'll add some amount to the 60k let's say 30k making it 90k

ok igwe will now appoint his boys (mostly PGs) then they'll add the final amount which is like 110k making it 200k
from that 110k
igwe's share will be given to him, PG will collect his own including the one to settle boys wey harass you.
so here the government don't care as far as they're getting their own stated share, likewise the political appointee and the rest grin

so you see the government is fully aware.

I'm talking from experience

Lol, 30k for borehole grin, it's like your people are learning a lot from our end, what amazes me is how they usually find out that work is about to kick off in a particular site, before you say Jack, they have surrounded you with cutlass and other deadly weapons.

Thank God the government wants to intervene. Every other state needs to come up with a strategy to rein in these guys. Their matter don dey too much.

The most disturbing part is that their so called Youth Leader is always an illiterate or someone with only a secondary school cert.

Use to live close to WRPC, and my favourite hangout then was Mega Hilton because those boyz dem been no dey too enter the place. Ate almost exclusively at Sizzlers. I wonder if they're still there. in agbero language it's called "pit"

government use it to settle their "boys" who are loyal to them.
just give us our returns
whether you task the masses to death that's none of their business their concern is their own stated returns.

my former boss who's a politician whom I worked for around 2016 that's where I knew all these.
I'm the one that pays in the money for the government.
my job is to carry the cash to the bank and give it to the cashier she already knew where the money was going so I'll take my leave immediately.
money is in millions i swear and na monthly ooo.

There are some fees indigenes do not pay when developing in Warri, most pay nothing, the main issue here is how strangers are being milked, doesn't matter if you are from Ughelli or Eku, if you are not from Ekpan for example, you will pay through the nose before erecting any structure.

I believe your home town might also have several levies for non-indigenes, I know about Ozoro, you are expected to pay some fees, though can't be compared to what's obtainable in Warri/Uvwie/Udu/Okpe.

The sad part of it, sad thing is, no one is doing anything to help stop this madness, everyone is scared. Our prayer is that Warri doesn't become Sapele 2.0, even the few oil companies left are relocating to Rivers and other states.
