The Association of Resident Doctors, federal capital territory administration (ARD-FCTA) have declared an indefinite strike which will take off from Tuesday September 1.

The group which conveyed announcement of their indefinite strike in a communiqué signed by Roland Aigbovo and Mustapha Ibrahim, chairman and general secretary of the association, said they took the decision amid the Coronavirus pandemic due to non-implementation of the variation of the 2018 promotion, the non-payment of the COVID-19 hazard and inducement allowances, among other issues.

According to ARD-FCTA, the strike will go on until the issues they highlighted are addressed.

The communiqué read;

“Due to the insensitivity displayed by the Office of the Permanent Secretary, FCT, and widespread agitations among our members in the various FCT hospitals and isolation/treatment centres, we regret to notify the administration and by extension the general public that the association would embark on an indefinite strike action with effect from 8am, 1st September, 2020, until the payment of the COVID-19 hazard and inducement allowance is received and the variation of the 2018 promotion exercise implemented.

“We regret any inconvenience this might cause the Federal Capital Territory Administration and the general public needing healthcare delivery during this period.

“We implore the FCT Administration to also look into the other myriads of problems raised in our earlier communication to the administration dated 14th August, 2020, with a view to resolving all pending issues so as to maintain industrial harmony.”

the are not greedy, whoever works should be paid. these people are putting their lives on the line to save patients and after everything one clueless govt would want to ridicule their efforts by non payment. for ur info their is mass migration of Nigerian doctors to the western world. do u know that its the poor masses that would be affected. those big guys has always flown abroad to get that which they can't get here. they are the real heartless people not the doctors.

there is nothing wrong with the Nigerian doctor, the training is standard. The system is bad here, Nigerian doctors never fail to impress outside the country. Blame the system not the doctors.

Until Nigerians learn to hold those who are responsible for this incidences accountable, these events will continue. Health workers also have families as well as financial obligations, so I see no reason why they can't demand for their allowances since they worked for it. The nddc guys who paid themselves bogus covid allowances are not front line workers same applies to the nass members who got about 15-20 million each as covid allowance. So what are we saying, isn't it unfair not to pay them their dues
