I don't know why you igbos reason like this. Did FBI gave Hushpuppi and Invictus Obi a job after catching them? Someone hacked into a database unethically and the next thing you recommend is a job. If he needs an IT job can't he go through the Normal application process?

Did Nigerian police gave Evans job as head of Anti kidnapping unit just because he's an experienced kidnapper?

Or should we employ armed robbers into the police because they know how to shoot guns?

Some of you needs your brain replaced with fufu

First of all, I am not Igbo.

Second, this case is not similar to Hushpuppi's or Evans' cases.

Hushpuppi's case is grand fraud.

Evans' case is kidnapping and murder.

This guy's case is hacking. Hacking is a misdemeanor in many state laws.

Hacking ordinarily is not fraud. The hacker made it clear that he was trying to raise an alarm about Access Bank vulnerabilities; he was not interested in defrauding people.

Yes, he committed a crime (which I stated at the beginning of my original post), but there is something called parole for crimes that are not serious.

Some parole can be a ban from using the internet for a year.

Hushpuppi (on the other hand) committed serious computer crimes.

Evans committed crimes that are classified as terrorism. In case you don't know it, kidnapping is classified as a terror act, and acts of terrorism are serious crimes against humanity.

Please, hacking (without defrauding) should never be compared to grand theft and kidnapping.

A hacker can get a slap on the wrist. But grand theft and kidnapping are not forgiven so easily.

Am I the only one seeing an ethical hacker advertising his talents and about to cash out real big from Access Bank?

Just thinking...

Lol at all the commenters above calling for his arrest. Life is not for the most part, black and white. There is oftentimes an in-between.

I share your thoughts Jare..... The Guy deliberately expose himself to sell himself. What he did is a call to All Banks to tighten their Cyber Security. Access Bank should be thanking him and not sending him to jail. What you guys should be thinking is that, as he used the information he Hacked Against the Bank?? Please think.

Means nothing.

BVN, Name, mobile number, Account number are a kind of public information.

He needs safe pins of debit cards to withdraw any amount. Just another attention seeker.

If you fill an IPPIS (Salary) form for instance you'll be asked for your name, account number, date of birth, BVN(to ensure you've not provided another account somewhere). Those papers are discarded in trash cans after data are entered into a computer system.

YOU CAN PROVIDE ANY OF THOSE TO A LOAN APP, to sign up on remita, to withdraw money from a betnaija/nairabet/betway account . INFACT, when someone asks you to fill in those information, the person can make inquiries from your bank to ensure you didn't fill in fake details.

No one asks for debit card security code, not even the bank manager is aware of the code. You can only lose it unknowingly to a phishing attack. That's your only private information in the banking department. Nigerian banks are even more secure than American banks. That's the only thing someone can withdraw your money with.

I've never seen a Nigerian bank card without vbv or MSc security, although they don't have AVS cause of our poor address system.
You can mess with American banks, you can't do that with a Nigerian bank.

It is public. That is why when you filling firm online that requires you bvn, the phone number associated with is request. If you muss out any number you submission will not go through

You guys don't understand what public information is...providing those datasets on some forms do not make them public; they are known as personally identifiable information PII - any data that identifies an individual. They need the same protection / security controls you give to your prized assets. To put in layman's terms, any information you can't freely share on social media platforms are not public information.

You know it . Don't mind them. Nigerian banks are strong. I've accesed the security of a top Bank in Canada and US and I think banks in Nigeria are stronger in terms of security .It would be even almost impossible to hack an American bank sef .

Go to give away threads on Instagram and see people begging for money. Even on Nairaland, online beggars provide those information .

I'm 100% certain he can't hack into the core banking platform ie finnacle or flexcube.
Do you know what he can do with your bvn alone... If he can hack the bvn database.. what makes you so sure that he is not in the vault as we speak

Ihebuzor didn’t plan to steal money from the accounts, according to the video, he just wanted to show that the Access Bank computers are not impregnable.

Thank you jare, I wonder why people believe that anyone can withdraw your money with BVN and account information without the pin or details that is private to you only.

I mean. The boy may not even know SQL injection. He simply found an old irrelevant paper somewhere and decided to use it for attention seeking. The many computer illiterates in Nigeria believe it's an Herculean task.

I suspect exposing the screen that contains his name is deliberate, and probably part of the game.

We cannot be too sure with scammers.

I thought so, but if you look at the way he was talking fast to sell himself as some kind of guru you would realize he was actually too anxious to do this hence that mistake.

Them hushpuppi, Invictus too were caught up with slight mistake.

It is the simplest things that give this people away.

I don't think access bank would even be smiling at him looking at the demarketing and embarrassment this costs them

you are right, every thing is hackable once there is code or software in it.... once a developer creates Solution he always goes out through a door and that is the door hackers use

companies must invest in pen testing and vulnerability testing and trust me finnacle is hackable

The bitter truth is no bank in Nigeria is safe from hackers based various bank customers complaint. I would rather suggest Access bank as well as other banks should meet with this hacker and see where the weaknesses are in their cybersecurity and then upgrade urgently. Sadly, our Law-enforcement agencies are also lacking behind in modern cybersecurity operations, hence the rise in cyber attacks.

Well, if that's the case, then we live in a very very Criminal Society and Universe!!!

I still have my doubts tho... What Nigerian or universal law is that??!

https://www.bridewellconsulting.com/when-is-hacking-illegal-and-legal

I don't know of the exact law in Nigeria to be specific, but I know that there are quite comprehensive cyber security and intellectual property laws.

On a general criminal law basis, he can be arrested and charged with attempted fraud and the burden of proof will shift to him since he has already been shown to have taken substantial steps towards the act. The only way to defend that charge would be to show that he immediately submitted a security report to access bank.

But since he has confessed to having obtained customer's account details, he is now in a world of potential trouble. Unless the bank and the authorities decide to convert him to their use.
