The values that matter in the leadership recruitment process in Canada are character, hard work and excellence. These are the qualities that earn someone an invitation to the leadership table.

Madu has them, and today he is the toast of the global political community.

In Nigeria, a Kaycee Madu from a very humble background – family of 11 children, illiterate parents, a 90-year-old father who was a petty trader and farmer – without sacks of money and zero appetite for thuggery would never have been invited to that table.

It is instructive that while Madu with neither a political godfather nor a deep pocket, was making these giant political strides in his adopted country in 2019, his kith and kin in Nigeria were being visited with violence in parts of the country for daring to vote for candidates of their choice in a general election.

For daring to exercise their franchise according to the dictates of their conscience, they were branded illegal immigrants and unconscionable land grabbers in Yoruba land by people like Femi Kusa, a veteran journalist, who should have known better.

But Canada is not Nigeria. There is no envy, no jealousy. Public office is a call to service. It is a sacrifice.

Societies that want to make progress go for the best, which explains why a year after, Madu was appointed Minister of Justice and Solicitor General for the Government of Alberta and Provincial Secretary and Keeper of the Great Seal of the Province of Alberta – another new high – he became the first African Minister of Justice in a Canadian government.

On his twitter page, he promised to ensure that everyone in Alberta has access to equal justice.

“Every individual is equal before and under the law and has the right to the equal protection and equal benefit of the law without discrimination.

“I look forward to working on many critical democratic reforms, including recall legislation and important citizenship initiative referendums, and taking the lead role on the implementation of our government’s fight for a fair deal within confederation,” he said.

That is the essence of governance.

President Muhammadu Buhari described Madu’s appointment as “historic,” and a proof that Nigerians are go-getters, who will always “distinguish themselves in different walks of life.”

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar said Madu’s feat is proof that “Nigerians are indeed global players with unlimited capacity to impact our world positively.”

While these tributes are deserved, the truth remains that it would have been impossible for Egbu, an Igbo from Abatete, Idemili LGA of Anambra State, to be appointed Vice Chancellor of University of Lagos in today’s Nigeria, no matter how brilliant he is.

Even if Madu, an Igbo from Umuokirika, Ahiazu-Mbaise LGA, Imo State, was born and raised in Lagos, he would still have been declared a persona-non-grata for daring to contest election in the state where he was born.

Societies desirous of making progress in the 21st century use the ennobling qualities of character, integrity, competency and sundry skill-sets as yardsticks for leadership recruitment.

In Nigeria, we deploy debilitating primordial ethno-religious sentiments in making the decision. And yet, we wonder why the country continues to plumb the depths of mediocrity, abject poverty, squalor and misery.

Indeed, there was a country, as the late literary icon, Professor Chinua Achebe, would say.

Almost all the over 300 ethnic group that makes up African most populous country Nigeria all have representatives in all countries of the world doing just fine politically, academically and financially on global scale without no noise

*Bianca Ojukwu a wife of APGA founder Ojukwu was denied senatorial ticket simply because she is from another Ibo state

* while countless Ibos have become state house of representatives members in Yoruba land and Commissioners , since 1999 20 years of democracy not a single Yoruba or Hausa man has held any elective office on Ibo soil

Op, what exactly do you mean by 'scorned in Nigeria'? Why are you ibos like this for God's sake?? Is it Yoruba people that are governors in iboland? Or are the hausas the ones in your ibo states assemblies? Or na Fulani dey represent ona for house of reps and senate? So what exactly do you all want? Are there no ibo ministers in this administration occupying the SE quota? Have ibos not been elected into political offices in Lagos? Have ibos not been appointed into Lagos government at various times in the past and present? Would you be feeling this same way if Peter Obi was the current VP under another Fulani Aboki in the person of Atiku Abubakar? Are ibos not trading in peace in every nook and cranny of Nigeria that you are claiming that they are 'scorned in Nigeria'?

Must an iboman lord himself over other Nigerians for you people to be happy in this country? Or is it until other tribes in Nigeria elect ibos as governors in their various states before you people feel you are getting your dues? Are ibos the only Nigerians occupying high positions in foreign countries that you people are resorting to this cheap and emotional blackmail?

If this is an attempt to blackmail others to cede the presidency to you guys, then you are the biggest jokers. There are many other tribes that are yet to taste the presidency as well all across Nigeria, and they are not going about threatening or blackmailing the rest of the country as a result. Make una rest, ok?

it’s just too bad. Igbos are too clannish. Even when they marry from another Igbo State, they are like crabs within their own particular state, from family to church to politics. Not only Bianca Ojukwu, See what they did to Bishop Okpaleke in Imo state where they refused for him to be their bishop because he is from Anambra State. Igbos are their own worst enemies.

After carefully studying the scenario that occurred during the precolonial days and beyond, when Nnamdi Azikiwe dared to become the premier of Western Region, appointed Igbos as Heads in Yoruba Land despite competent indigenes available, amongst other key occurrences...

I realised their cries of marginalization can be summarized as "beggars dubious approach to own the Landlord properties."

They are simply Olojukokoro who can never be satisfied. If you give them a little chance within your precinct, their ultimate aim will be disposing you with iniquity.

Yes yorubas are always in alliance with fulanis to hold igbos down in Nigeria . Don't allow an igbo man to rise . Yorubas connived with fulanis to end Gej govt because they felt that Igbos were in charge under Gej .In anticipation to destroy Igbo race , Yorubas installed Buhari who they know hates Igbos but today every one is suffering under buhari govt now but sensible ones are seeking for oduduwa rep .

The mistake the yorubas had made in Nigeria is the yorubas are fixated in making sure that Igbo man does not rise while indirectly empowering the fulanis and today it is hard to control fulanis and every body is crying. Fulanis are in control of power in Nigeria courtesy of yorubas. They work together to stunt the growth of an igbo man politically and they will say Igbos don't know politics while the same Igbos are doing great more than any other tribe politically outside Nigeria where there is meritocracy, fairness and equity .

It's like they have used lies to swear for you people. How many times in the history of Nigeria, have the Yorubas allied with the Fulani compared to you ibos?? Guy, the records are there for anyone that cares to know the truth concerning this. Even your own leaders have attested to it and it is on record. Yorubas supported GEJ to the Presidency in 2011 and when he showed himself to be incompetent, they supported a Fulani candidate (for the first time in Nigerian political history that more Yorubas would support a Northerner in any presidential election), and even at that, the margin of victory for Buhari in the SW was comparatively low, which demonstrated that a very significant number of Yorubas still voted for GEJ in that 2015. Meanwhile, ibos have allied far more times than Yorubas with the Northern political establishment, while Yorubas became synonymous with playing opposition.

1960- Ibo aligned with the North to become Ceremonial Governor-General

1963- First Republic - Ibo aligned with the North to become Ceremonial President

1979-Second Republic : Igbo aligned with the North to produce Vice President

1983- Ibo aligned with the North to remained VP

1993- Third Republic - Ibo aligned with the North to Vote Tofa at expense of Southern Candidate in the Person of Abiola

1993- 1998- Ibo aligned with Abacha for Life Presidency at the expense of NADECO movement for restoration of Democracy in Nigeria. It is an irony that no Politicians of Igbo extraction was jailed during Abacha regime, because they were the one singing his praises at the expense of the Yoruba, who were at the forefront of the fight against the military and dictatorship. Most Yoruba stood and fought Abacha, many of them were jailed and some died in Prisons including Abiola, while Ibos in Lagos ran back to the east.

So you see that you are a liar. Elections didn't start holding in 2015 Mr. man. Maybe you should go back and read the history of igbo-Northern alliances because there's a long history of prior ibo-fulani alliances. Ibos only supported GEJ in 2015 for selfish reasons, hence their continued bitterness about GEJ's loss, even long after Jonathan and the Ijaws have since moved on. So much so that an APC candidate even won the last governorship election in GEJ's state before the supreme court upturned the victory. You people should take it easy with the bold-faced lies, Ok?? Liars are liable to rot in hell fire.

You cannot rewrite history guy. You people are ingrates. Lagos is yoruba territory, and it was under the same Tinubu that igbos were first made cabinet members with influential portfolios, his successors also continued the trend. I am yet to hear other ethnicities in Lagos lament and go on blackmail fits about not being given political appointments in Lagos.
Are ibos the only non-natives in Lagos??

The current representative of Oshodi-Isolo constituency at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Jude Emeka Idimogu, is ibo, originally from Imo state. There are ibo councillors all across Lagos today. But like I said before, ibos are a very funny set of people. Unless you guys are allowed to completely dominate the political/economic landscape of wherever you find yourselves, you will always find one reason or another to cry foul and claim marginalisation. But sorry, it is only in iboland you will ever have that level of dominance and absolute control.

You guys are not the only non-Yorubas in the SW. Besides, maybe you all should also lead by example by creating an enabling environment for the non-natives in your midsts in iboland to also succeed. I mean, let others see examples of non-ibo success stories in iboland for a change. You guys are given the freedom to thrive in other people's lands (like the Canadians and Yorubas have exemplified), but one hardly hears of success stories of non-ibos in iboland. It's about time iboland is opened up so that other non-ibos can also prosper in your midst for a change. Become givers for a change, and not just takers.

Become givers for change, and not takers.

Is Iragbiji in Lagos state?
You'all should mind your own states too.Hiding under the cover of this is Yoruba land to rob the indigenous Lagosians their God given land and rights to govern themselves is unacceptable. You came from other states to dominate them, same thing you are accusing Igbo of trying to do, is exactly what you'all are doing to Lagos state indigenes who has not ruled the state since 1999.
How many indigenous Lagosians are senators,Houese of Reps from 1999 till date? That is an injustice! It is only allowed to happen in Eko and no where else in Yorubaland.

A kid born out of wedlock won't know the value of fatherhood.
Lol, I am not Igbo, so born out of wedlock is not our character. Ask your mother at home if she knows who impregnated her to produce you from the baby factory in Anambra.

I repeat, did Tinubu came to flog your father in his dirty sitting room and smelly compound. That only if you know him.

But why did my comment struck a nerve in you. E really pain you o.

The problem I have with most Yari.ba peeps on this forum borders on ignorance and the cult fellowship with their moronic writers. Anybody who had few brain cells would know that Zik's NCNC had alliance with Awo's ACTION GROUP and other parties. However, NCNC and NPC formed the coalition government of the years in discuss.
Shut up olofo. Afi smelly akpu
